Fireplace Repair reviews in New York

  • I believe this was the third year we had Nationwide clean our fireplace, as we use it frequently in the winter months. Nationwide has done an excellent job each time, and takes particular care in making sure that nothing in reasonable proximity to the fireplace receives any fallout. We will continue to use Nationwide as needed.

  • Better than expected... i was a little skeptical because of all the things I've heard about chimney companies but they totally changed my impressions of both chimney companies and contractors in general. On time, clean, honest, reliable. Price was fair and in line with other estimas i had already gotten.

  • The customer service by Rocco, his son Nickolas, and the Barocco team was fantastic. From the first time I met the owner, Rocco Iervasi, I witnessed his attention to detail as he measured and templated the feature wall to be wrapped in marble. I then drove out to their fabrication facility in upstate NY where I marveled at Nick's talent for cutting and polishing the marble slabs. During installation, the Barocco team worked diligently. They even came back the following week to do touch-ups; a testament to Barocco Marble's commitment to superior customer service and a job well done.

  • I searched for a long time on Google and Angies List before making the decision to have Scott Tobia Construction perform the renovation. I could not be happier with the job that they did and the way my apartment looks now.  They showed up every day when they said they would and finished the Job before the completion date estimate that they gave me at the beginning.  Scott is a great listener and helped talk me through some ideas that he has used in other apartments like mine to make them more efficient.  He installed some new lighting and fans as well and made very good use of the room I have.  In New York every bit of space counts!  I would recommend Scott Tobia Construction to anyone who wants a high quality Job done at an affordable price.

  • Awesome renovation of my studio apartment! The team gave great attention to detail, and they were very communicative - which made the process so much easier for me. My questions were all answered, and they provided creative and chic style options. My favorite aspect of the renovation was the tile work in the bathroom - super fun! I couldn't be happier with the customer service and the outcome of the project - I definitely recommend this company!

  • the first technician that they sent out to do the installation was incompetent and could not explain how to work the system properly.   He contradicted himself several times, and did not really seem to understand the questions I was asking.    After a month of frustration, I finally got them to send someone else out, and he was able to explain that the model does not work well if you turn the pilot off each time, which is what the first tech told me to do.   Clearly, the service level that this vendor provides is completely depended upon the tech that happens to be assigned to your job; I hope you don't get the one I got!

  • I have only an 18 foot chimney and smoke was coming into the apartment. A small fan was not getting all the smoke up the chimney and three other socalled fireplace specialists gave me advice that didn't work. My architect and contractor had supplied the three names, and so I went on Angie's List.

The Flue Tech tech came to the house on time, with several calls the day before and the morning of the visit. Their phone service was excellent and when I set up the appointment, they gave me a very good suggestion, which had it worked, would have been the only advice I needed and would have lost them a sale.

That advice didn't work either, however, and the tech came in. He made several good suggestions, but when he looked at the size of the fan on the top of the chimney, he said he was certain that all that was needed was a more powerful fan. He said at full power, it would be noisier than the smaller one, but that his experience was that at 30-50% power, the draw would greatly exceed the smaller fan, and the noise would be less than the full power noise of the small fan.

They installed the larger fan...and he was absolutely right. No smoke at all into the room, and the fan ran at 50% speed, with less noise than the old one at 100% speed.

They cleaned the chimney, pointed and painted the firebox, and even returned twice over two weeks to correct minor issues. A+++ rating from me!

  • I am a Registered Architect in NY but had trouble finding a contractor to do the job in a 4 story townhouse in Manhattan at a reasonable price.  I joined Angie's list specifically for help in finding contractors for this job which happens to be my home.
I took bids from 3 contractors including Flue Tech.  I awarded them the job based upon:
Their professionalism in visiting the jobsite and analyzing the project needs
    Their promptness and follow up
    The professionalism of their proposal
    Their bid
As an architect and real estate developer I do construction every day.  These guys were excellent in every way.
They set appointments and kept to their schedule
The job started as promised and was competed ahead of schedule
They worked in a clean manner
I had 1 minor problem and they came back immediately.
I rate them 100%.  Couldn't have wished for more.

  • I first called the company for the estimate for a mechanical cleaning.  Douglas came and told me that I need a new liner and that the cleaning will not do. I have then gotten estimates from 3 more providers.  One of them offered to do the cleaning and then see if I need a fix or not. I decided to go with this option. When they cleaning was done, the firm did say that I need a new liner (over $4,500 including existing clay tile removal, which may not have been needed) or a fix (HeatShield $1,950). I talked to my contractor who recommended the steel liner as a more permanent solution.  I gotten a few more estimates where the new steel liner estimates ranged from $1,800 to $3,800 plus (without existing tile removal). Given that Douglas was right in the first place about my needs and given the Angie's list reputation for this company, I decided to go with American Chimney Service even though it was not the cheapest quote.  I asked Doug if the estimate included clay tile removal if that was necessary and he said yes if necessary. Another provider I talked to confirmed that it is not always necessary.
The job was scheduled the next day, the crew arrived promptly and did the job over 4 hour period.  They were professional and hard working. They performed the work they outlined in the estimate and also replaced the chimney cap for the heater flue, which was not part of the contact.
The initial estimate also included further insulation of the fireplace box with non-combustable materials, which would've cost me a lot more money.  I have checked the fire code NFPA-211 regulation, per Doug's reference, online and was able to see that this was not necessary in my case, although it is necessary in many other cases.  Doug has agreed with me. I believe it was an honest mistake and not an attempt to overcharge.
I would hire the company again.
