    Gregg Home Improvements N.Y.C.
We used Gregg Home Improvements for a number of projects in our apartment - installing sofets and motorized window shades, removal of a kitchen door, re-shaping of the entry-way and painting. One hears so many horror stories about building contractors that it was such an incredible relief to know have to worry about such things with Gregg Home Improvements. They are all incredibly easy to work with, flexible, responsive and the quality of the work they do is excellent. In addition, they have worked in many buildings across the city and therefore know all the ins and outs of dealing with permits, etc so I never had to worry or even deal with it myself.

Working with Flavio has been wonderful! He is a fantastic craftsman and a true professional -- not to mention kind -- and you can feel the care that goes into his work. He and his teammate Denis were a pleasure to work with. From the first time we reached out to him, he was very responsive in answering our (many) questions! We had a number of doors that we wanted to replace (both interior and exterior), as well as a few storm doors to be replaced. He also re-installed our front door after we discovered that the person who had initially installed it did not ensure it was plumb. This was a complex job which he did with great care and efficiency, ensuring that no detail was missed (as an example, he noted that when the door was re-installed, the door sweep was just barely making contact with the door sill, so he replaced it with a taller door sweep to ensure a tight seal). They finished the front door with a beautiful high gloss paint which was done meticulously! Unlike previous searches for contractors (referrals through family or friends), we found Flavio through reviews on Angie's List, and he is by far the most talented and best contractor that we've ever worked with! We're so grateful to have met him, and are looking forward to working with him on a number of projects in the coming months. He absolutely lives up to -- and truly exceeds -- his stellar reputation. Now we can't imagine working with anyone else!

    BNH Home Improvement
To Whom It May Concern: I would like to take this opportunity to warn future consumers about a Contracting business currently operating as BNH Construction NY or BNH Home Improvement, license # 1433553-DCA operating in the city of New York. Let me explain why I am taking this action. The owner of the company, Adam Chen will chase you and call you back until you sign the contract and give a deposit. After that, calls, emails and texts are completely ignored. When they finally show up to start the renovation, they send a crew that has no experience and is basically learning the job on your dime. I was told by their foreman, that they "fired" several of the workers because of the poor quality of their work. This after they had done a lot of work in my apartment. I was promised an English speaking worker every day and that was not the case. I had no way of communicating with the workers, as Mr. Chen seldom picked up his cell. There were different workers showing up daily who had no idea of where the project was and no knowledge of construction.Their work is shabby, messy, unprofessional and there is not one single thing that was done correctly in my home on the first try. They ruined the electric in a brand new fan, they scratched my brand new 50 inch Sony TV, the hardwood floor installation was a disaster with more scratches than straight lines, they installed my basin faucet crooked, chipped my brand new Quartz vanity top, had to repaint several walls since they were too lazy to clean their brushes in between colors, the tile floor in the bathroom had to be re-done twice, they broke a professional lighted makeup mirror, they hung a wall mount TV without painting the wall behind it. They had no regard for the few personal items that were left in my apartment. My clothing (which I had left protected with heavy plastic bags) was somehow covered with construction dust. My printer, small tv, cable boxes and routers were thrown around like garbage. They disappeared for weeks, even months at a time blaming it on the city, awaiting permits, while it actually was because their crew was sent to work on a different job. While I am discussing permits, I have waited since July, for the plumbing permit final inspection. I have called the DOB several times and they have no record of the inspection being requested. At the writing of this letter, it is May 31st. While there was a short delay due to lack of communication with my architect, I am living with an unworkable kitchen as a result of their permit issues. If you hire BNH be prepared for a 6 to 8 week job to last at least 12 months and a barrage of lies and excuses. If you are ok with a "crap job" these guys are for you. I am notifying the better business bureau and will file a complaint with the licensing division for contractors.I have photographs of many of the issues as proof of the quality of their workmanship. You will see how they left a radiator painted, floors missing grout, closet doors that don't close, floor molding installed crooked, cabinet hinges installed improperly, my stove still unconnected 1 year after the start of the work, door knobs glued on, no paint behind a wall mount tv and it goes on and on... Please note: there is no option for rotating photos, so please look closely

Hampton Bay Construction Babylon Bay Construction
I made the decision to hire Hampton Bay Construction because of its excellent ratings on Angie's List and having met AJ, its president. I've been using the List for years with good results. I'd already gotten estimates for new windows from two other sources before calling AJ. He came by, looked at my old windows and gave me excellent advice on what could and should be done. No, I did not need the most expensive windows available. Yes, he was a bit more expensive than the other contractors, but oh, what he provides in the way of service and quality. As it turned out the newly designed Andersen windows I chose were faulty. The grills I ordered did not fit. AJ was tireless in getting Andersen to resolve the problem. It took a while but I had full confidence that he would get the job done. He did. And his crew was just wonderful in protecting the work space ahead of time, in leaving the interior of the house clean and in hanging new shades perfectly. I am a fussy homeowner. Quality counts with me. I have an eye for problems. A.J does too. And he asks about needed decisions ahead of time and lets his customers decide. A storm door blew off my house in a storm (!) and I like the the one AJ installed much more than the old one because he had the wit to ask me what I wanted. I've now a list of jobs needing attention. I hope that AJ will be able to do them. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

    Picasso Expert Renovations
I found Picasso here on Angie's List and I am forever grateful. I had it narrowed down to a few contractors based on the reviews posted and after careful consideration, we hired Picasso as their offer was the most aligned with our need and budget. We have a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment on the Upper East Side in Manhattan. Initially, we needed a new kitchen and bathroom but after seeing the quality of the work we also ended up making things a bit more contemporary by adding new doors and replacing the trim work. Thrilled to also share that Picasso gave us a huge break to renovate and refresh our crown moldings which was totally a last minute decision!!!! My husband and I were dreading the work especially since we have a young child and our space is limited as is. We were pleasantly surprised when work commenced and things were properly covered and sectioned off and we had adequate livable space. Not too mention, the workers were very polite and VERY clean. Other than the areas temporarily out of use, the rest of our space was totally livable. The walls and surfaces were properly prepped and not just coated with paint. Most importantly for people who live in NYC, Picasso was super professional dealing with our doorman and building staff and finished the work every day well ahead of the building time deadline for construction work. Throughout the project we had zero issues with the building and the workers complied with the building guidelines. We were well informed of what would be happening on a day to day basis and were given progress reports and checklists. This was a great way to communicate with us, lessen our anxiety for the outcome while we were able to celebrate each accomplishment daily!! My neighbors informed me that they were completely unaffected and inconvenienced by the construction which was a very big deal to us! We were very happy and excited! Everything is finished beautifully!! It ended up taking us 3 weeks from the first to the last day of work which was AMAZINGLY ahead of our deadline. What a brilliant decision was to go with Picasso!!!! The finished product is SUPERB!! It feels like a completely new place and we are thrilled with everything. The little things mattered as much as the big changes. Updating the doors and trim as well as our crown moldings ended up being an impressive compliment to the space. Both my husband and I are very busy professionals but we wanted to take the time to share our FANTASTIC experience with Picasso in the hopes of helping others like us in making this important decision. We were given everything that we had agreed on in the contract. The level of communication from the owner, and the professionalism and expertise of the crew were a wonderful bonus. Anyone who is dreading a renovation like we were, should look no further. Thank you, Picasso for such a FABULOUS A+ job!!!!

    Elite Tech Remodeling
George and his team did a great job gut-renovating my New York City apartment. George guided me through the entire renovation process from the initial design to handling DOB permits/inspections to the actual construction and everything in between. He and his crew are top-notch - they are by the far the best contracting company I've worked with. The quality of their work is fantastic, and their attention to detail is outstanding. I am particularly happy with the flooring, tiling, and painting that they did. I always receive compliments from visitors on how nice everything looks in my apartment post-renovation. Price-wise, Elite Tech is not the cheapest nor the most expensive. Their prices are fair and they do NOT cut corners. A few times George was not entirely satisfied with how some part of the renovation came out and would re-do it even though everything looked great to me. He treated my apartment renovation as if he were re-doing his own home. If any issues came up (as is normal for renovations), George would immediately notify me and provide multiple solutions. He has seen and fixed it all! It's worth noting that George is ridiculously responsive via phone, email, and text. I was always able to get in contact with him even when he was busy traveling. I am very thankful that I chose Elite Tech for my renovation.

    Turn Key Lock and Safe
Nick went above and beyond. He arrived promptly and addressed the problem right away. My bottom lock was shot and needed to be replaced. Not only did he replace my bottom lock, he saw that my failed attempt to put the dead bolt top lock on was incomplete, so he kindly offered to attach the other piece of the lock. He was completely professional and kind. I would highly recommend this company and Nick specifically. I will be letting my landlord know what a great job he did! Thank you!

    Lannes Construction
Excellent. Ozeas arrived punctually, responded to all my texts, bought the stuff that he needed for the job from Home Depot and returned what he didnt need, and was a pleasure to work with him. Whatever the job required to get done, he knew how to find the part and fix it. I finally found a handyman who I can call for anything! Oh, and he met the buildings insurance requirements. Phew.

    Paul Lopa Designs Inc
Took the money and ABSCONDED. - I started work for my 700SF one bedroom in 2017. It's 2019 and the work is still unfinished. - I paid in excess of $100,000 to Paul to do the job. - Paul Lopa took the money and vanished. Multiple text messages and calls to him have all gone unanswered. - At this time, I am preparing to take him to court. - I am frankly surprised at the reviews he has received because they are completely contradictory to what I experienced - absolutely not a 5-star experience. - When he began work, every question was accompanied by an additional bill because 'it did not include the work specification'. - His sub contractors damaged the apt more than fixing it- tearing off the electrical panel cover, the kitchen light fixtures continuously fall off, the floors buckle [I am told it has to do with humidity, weird because the other renovated apartments in my bldg are perfectly fine], the kitchen sink pipes cracked after 9 months flooding the bathroom, the closets doors collapsed a few weeks after installation, the city inspections failed because the work was haphazardly done [If you think I may be biased, the failed city inspections should tell you a lot] - I had to call the appliance manufacturer to fix the gas lines because not only did Paul not respond to text and calls, I also lost trust in his work quality. All of the work is still pending.. - As an eg- His workers damaged the new closets because they wanted to leave early for a long weekend and I had asked them to finish it before they leave. A few mins later they called me back and showed me a brand new damaged door [ which I had unwrapped a few mins ago] and there was a gaping hole [Caused by a hammer]. - I ordered kitchen cabinets from Paul Lopa's own store 'Cabinet plant' that was delayed by over 2 months. They gave me every excuse from specialized templates to storms in the Atlantic and order stuck with customs. It was always someone else's fault. - By the time I had paid him over $100,000 with a remaining bal of $1,500. I told him that I would hold that amount until the job was completed. He immediately ceased all work for 2 weeks until I paid the final $1,500, soon after he absconded. - My apartment still has open permits, unfinished work and various damages with no response from Paul Lopa. - [He did show up a few weeks ago and sent his contractor to 'clean up' some work for a day, but has absconded again].
