Hvac Repair reviews in Nashville

  • We had a new Trane Heat and Air Conditioner installed in 2007.  Never had any problems and had it inspected every year.

As the season this year got cooler we tried to turn the heat on to no avail.  We noticed a $49 dollar inspection fee on Angie's Provider name locked. and decided try Midstate Air and Heating.  I have always been a bit suspicious of any deviation from the quoted price on inspections like this.   I was told after the inspection that there as mold on the filters.   The gentleman quoted me a price of $800.00 to clean the filter and add an ultraviolet light that would prevent any additional mold.

About three months before we had a mold removal company treat our large crawl space and add material and a dehumidifier that would prevent any further mold so I knew that the ultraviolet light was unnecessary.   So I had him just clean the filter.  After fooling with the unit a little more he told me that measuring the resistance in the capacitor indicated that it was going bad and the cost would be $165.00.   Now I have worked with electronics for years and I have never seen an ordinary capacitor cost any where near that much.  Well I paid it and he replaced it and left.  Naturally when we tried to turn on the heat that night it didn't work.

I called Midstate back and the very nice person that I had talked to the day before said that they would get someone out immediately. They sent two new technicians who were very polite and professional..  After examining the unit they said that the Inducer Fan Assembly was bad and that it would cost $887.00 to replace it. When I nearly fainted the lead tech said that because of all the problems we had had that he would discount half of it and it would only cost $443.50.  He replaced the part and checked it out and the heat worked perfectly.  I wrote him a check and shook hands and they left.

Now have to state that the person answering the phones was absolutely as nice as one could be and the two technicians that came the second time were also friendly and professional.  The first tech that came gave the impression that he would much rather be somewhere else.  I guess that's what made the extremely expensive  capacitor so painful to pay for.

I guess my problem was that I had just watched a show on 20/20 about how workers contracted to inspect items in the home would suddenly discover very expensive problems.   The prices Midstate was charging may well be within line with normal pricing by other companies but they just seemed a little high to me.

At any rate, the heat is working perfectly so I can say that Midstate definitely got the job done.  I am writing this review mostly so that Angie's List personnel can inquire from Midstate if felt that they were fair in what they were charging elderly folks that were living on their  Social Security payments.  I don't want to embarrass anyone.  That's why I didn't want it on the Band of Neighbors.

  • We had some light switches that needed replacing. My husband attempted the task, but somehow manged to knock the power out to the entire room. I called Provider name locked. at 8:15am Monday morning and had a licensed electrician, Bill, at my front door at 2:45pm the same day. Bill swiftly and capably got everything fixed and switches changed in no time. I'll be requesting him by name for any future electrical needs.

  • I purchased a discounted home visit through an Angie's List special, so I expected there to be some delay due to an influx of work for Provider name locked. AC. There wasn't. He was out to my house promptly and professionally to diagnose and repair my heating system. He was also very responsive to my insurance company even though it might have cost him the repair (if they'd chosen to use one of their servicemen after the initial diagnosis and estimate). In the end, he did the repair and I'm glad he did.
