  • They are good and competent. It is associated with the university, that's pretty much all I care about. It's a research institution. I go there because of its procedures and they're nationally known. My main doctor is fine too and she listens. I've never presented her with a really baffling thing. They are good, but if you don't have anything wrong, you can just forget it. Their office environment is good. The staff is always friendly. My doctor is fabulous. For their billing and administration, it comes in little pieces and you don't even know what it is for because there's a statement from the doctor and it could be for some small pieces of lab.

  • There are times when I have to wait 20 minutes or so to see her, which can kind of be a pain, especially because the time I arrived 20 minutes late (well, 10 minutes, actually) then they said she couldn't see me! But, I think this is pretty par for the course when it comes to doctors - so it's not just her. I don't know if she's the most innovative doctor in the world, but I do think she knows her stuff. I don't go to her for talk therapy, so I can't really comment on that. We obviously do talk some, because she has to check in
with me to see how things are going. She seems to care about how things are going, and even though she clearly has a big patient load (not sure if this is because she takes insurance and therefore people flock to her) she gives me her full attention. I mixed up my meds one weekend and had to call her emergency number and she called back very quickly and was helpful. Overall, I find her
efficient and nice and patient and I would recommend her.
The office staff? Not as nice. They're not that helpful or pleasant, but I spend very little time interacting with them, so if I had to choose, I'd go with a nice doctor rather than a nice staff.

  • Looking back, I'm glad it didn't work out. If you're a doctor who is working with children, and children with disabilities, then you should know that life can be pretty intense and hard to navigate at times for these families. Most parents are trying to help their kids in any and every way possible and he could have been more understanding and a support to us and to my daughter, instead of and quot;punishingand quot; us for the missed appointment by refusing to see us....ever! I also think his staff should mention this to people who are coming in for the 1st time. There was no heads up, no warning. I'm sure he's a very good neurologist, but unfortunately his office policies kept my daughter and I from benefiting from that. Am connected to lots of other mom's whose kids are in the same boat. Will not be recommending!

  • He is the best prescribing doctor in the state and he prescribed exactly the right thing. He is very nice and has a good personality. He is helpful and he does not pry outside the specific issue. He has a big staff.

  • On the next visit I had an appt. with, what I thought was going to be with a psychiatrist. The machine sent me a reminder the evening before and it said and quot; If you are a new patient, please arrive 30-45 min. before your appt.and quot; I confirmed the appt. I had filled all of the paperwork the day before. When I arrived (15 min early), I was told I was late and would have to reschedule because I was late. I explained that I wasn't late but they said she(I thought the dr.) was seeing someone else since I was late and they had an opening the next morning. I asked the girl if I was supposed to arrive 30-45 min early for that and she said no.
The next morning it turned out I wasn't seeing a dr., but a nurse practitoner instead. I told her I was sorry about the day before when they said I was late and she told me , That's ok. It was nice to have an hour to catch up on paperwork. Then I knew she hadn't seen someone else.
I spent less than 30 min with her and she said there was nothing they could do to help me. When I was leaving, I stopped by the desk and asked the girl to cancel my appts for the mth of Oct. and she did. Then she looked embarrassed and said that they were charging me a $90.00 late canceling fee for being late the day before. I asked if I could see the office manager. The woman who came out of the other office was rude and very arrogant. She said when I came back, I was to bring $90.00. I told her I wouldn't be coming back and in a very loud voice with 2 patients sitting in the waiting room behind me, she said and quot;Yes you are!!and quot; the young girl at the desk said, and quot;No she isn't, she canceled all of her appts.and quot; I asked this woman for her name 2 different times but she would'nt tell me. I kept trying to tell her I hadn't been late but she got more agitated and told me I would have to send the money to their billing dept. I said, Oh, that is alright, I will stop and talk to them on my way out and explain. She got madder then and told me their billing dept wasn't in the building. When I said that is ok, Where are they in Nashville?, she said and quot; they aren't in Nashville.and quot; I asked, are they in TN and she said yes. Then she said that I could appeal in a letter to them but noone had ever received a waver from this fee before. I said, where do I send this letter and she tore off a piece of paper and wrote Billing Dept with this office's suite # and make it to the attn to billing in this office. I got a EOB from medicare showing they had paid over $20.00 for this late fee. I will find out more about medicare fraud.
Please, do not go through what I went through at the Evelyn Frye Center. There are many fine counseling services in Nashville. And they are polite and kind to patients.

  • I don't care to tell the story from start to finish because of the nature of the services - it's private. But I will say that he has helped me in ways no one else has ever been able to do. I have learned a great deal and have incorporated changes in thinking, behavior and emotional habits that have benefitted me greatly.
I recommend him without hesitation for anyone who is willing to do the work.

  • I called MS Clinic at Vanderbilt and took the first appt available which was with Dr. Pawate.  This should have been my first clue that this doc was so available.  I experience him to be very brief during appts and unwilling to seriously address MY concerns.  I feel he "blows me off" when I raise concerns or attempt to ask questions.  He appears to rush through my appt.  to get me out of there.  I recently had an MRI as a routine protocal for MS patients.  The radiologist report given to me and sent to Dr. Pawate mentioned a "narrowing of the spine" in a certain vertebra which might possibly explain some motor coordination problems that are occurring.  He didn't even mention it during my follow-up exam.  I asked to switch to a different neurologist  in the same practice since I just went through the hassle of getting records from my out-of-state docs to them.  I was told they will not allow me to switch within the practice, even with my concerns.  (I think I now know why!!!)  I even called Vanderbilt's office for Quality Assurance to file a complaint but nothing's changed.  I am very disheartened and sour on this MC Clinic.  There is no way I would suggest this neurologist to anyone.
I also have to mention the billing process has been a nightmare to deal with.  Keep in mind that my MS condition has given me plenty of experience with doc offices and their billing practices in the last 18 years.  Every single month I get a bill that necessitate me calling their billing office, only to hear something different from the person I talked to the previous month.  Since the infusion drug I'm on is very expensive, Medicare doesn't cover much.  After I first moved here, I was told that I qualified for some write-off assistance and have a letter that states I am approved for a lower rate.  Every month I have to fight, reminding them of my status.  The last phone call I made I was told I have to submit all my expense documentation EVERY SINGLE MONTH to them for determination.  They cannot seem to tell me exactly what each treatment should cost me, out-of-pocket.
I really thought I would be getting the best of care since it's Vanderbilt but I've been sorely disappointed.  I am now looking for another neurologist since I cannot be transferred to another recommended neurologist within the practice.  What a hassle it's been to deal with Dr. Pawate, the MS Clinic and Vanderbilt's billing office.  Sigh.

  • He is wonderful.  When my son got to be teenaged, we felt a little inadequate.  We see Dr. Schleicher for parenting advice and my son sees him for behavior issues.  He gives very practical advice and we will continue to see Dr. Schleicher.

  • There is a phone number that you can call when the office is closed so you can reach the Dr. if there is an emergency he never calls back.  I don't think this is a good thing.  I used to like him because I have been going to him for a long time I used to laugh with him and see him for my inpatient visits.  But I do not agree with the after hour services because no one ever calls you back and it is there for an emergency you need to talk to Dr.

  • I have no dislikes about him. He addresses all of our needs and has got wonderful bedside manner. He is just very good with me and my father. His staff is wonderful. They are all on time and I can just say enough about the professionals that I have found. They are the best.
