We expected to get an estimate within a few days, but were surprised when

Because of the length of time it took for the second bid to come in, it was now mid-October when I called
As promised, the framing crew, a dumpster and a load of lumber showed up the following Wednesday, and the project was underway. Fast-forward to today, and I am writing this review from the desk in my new basement office. Everything is done, inspections are passed, the dumpster is gone, and we're now awaiting the delivery of a sectional to sit on and a plasma TV to watch while enjoying the bar and the fireplace, all with convenient access to a full bathroom!
As we sent pictures to our family and friends along the way, or as they saw
Of course, I would be lying if I said there were no bumps along the way. There were a few. But none of them were significant enough to knock the project off schedule, and none of them
Above all, I want to say that

We were pleased with all aspects of the work that was done. The biggest surprise, however, was the handcrafted bookshelves and mantel that
My husband and I would highly recommend
FBC promised us three things: 1) great design, 2) guaranteed completion date and 3) guaranteed pricing.
On the design: after the first designer (a new FBC employee) missed the design solutions and we are generally happy with the final design outcome.
On the guaranteed completion date: we were promised a 49 day production schedule with an early
On pricing: we found FBC's pricing extremely confusing and misleading. They submitted estimates with very little detail. When we asked for further detail, they pleasantly agreed to provide it, but it took several very frustrating rounds of conversation to get anywhere. When we finally got the numbers, we found that major items had been oddly lumped together and unrelated items were attached to them (example: we were given one total figure for "counter tops and flooring" -- these are pretty distinct categories, why not separate them? And then we found that unrelated stonework was included in "counter tops and flooring". All this made it difficult if not impossible to understand what we were really paying for any of these major items.) Here's the kicker: the president of FBC ultimately acknowledged that his pricing worksheet was so complex and misleading that even his own employees didn't understand how to use it properly.
FBC is growing very quickly, and we suspect that their growth has outstripped process and workflows that may have worked well in the past. They may handle many projects well, but they botched ours badly. Be very cautious in accepting their upfront promises!
figure out what to do with my tiny kitchen. we've needed a complete remodel for a long time, but I was paralyzed by not knowing how to begin. of great suggestions which helped me to see big possibilities on a budget. He was very patient, considerate and respectful and explained all of the ins and outs of the remodeling process.
His design was terrific! Suddenly it looks like there is hope for our little space.
We just got the drawings a few days ago and we still need some time to live with them and imagine the outcome, so we haven't made any decisions yet. The biggest drawback that I can see is that it will take nearly 3 months to complete. That's a long time to have to wash dishes in the bathtub!
Over all, this phase has been a very positive experience.
