  • In the summer of 2011, I signed up for a gym membership in addition to 12 months of personal training sessions (3 sessions/mo). Before I committed to 12 months of personal training sessions, I asked the manager what would happen if I were to move during the next 12 months. He told me it was not a problem because there are LA Fitness facilities all over the country and I would have no trouble finding another one at which I can attend my personal training sessions. Satisfied, I signed the contract.
Three months into my membership, I moved to another city for a new job. When I went to the LA Fitness facility closest to my new city of residence, I was told if I wanted to use this facility, I had to pay a $90 "upgrade fee." This was not disclosed to me at the time I signed up for everything. So, I called LA Fitness in Edina and asked to speak with the manager who originally signed me up. He was unavailable, so I left him a detailed message and asked him to call me back.

Five weeks went by and I never received a call back. I finally called the facility back again and asked to speak to that manager, again. This time he was available. I explained the situation to him and he told me that there was nothing he could do about the upgrade fee. If I wanted to switch gyms, I would have to pay the fee. He said the personal training sessions are good at any LA Fitness facility, but when you are signed up with a single club, the gym membership is not good at any other facility and you have to upgrade to a multi-facility membership in order to use any other facility outside of your "home gym." While all of this is true, I was not told that it would cost an additional $90 to switch my "home gym" facility when I signed up.

Again, the manager told me he understood my frustration, but there was nothing he could do about it. He then offered to have the general manager (GM) of the Edina facility call me back to see if there was anything he could help with, since he knows more about the membership side of things. I agreed and asked if the GM would be calling me yet today. He said, yes, probably within the hour. Three hours passed and no call back. Before the end of the day, I called the Edina facility again, and asked to speak to the GM. He was not available, so they took a message from me. No call back. Two more days pass, still no call back, so I called again today, was told the GM was not available, so I left another message to have him call me back. Still have not received a return call.

Based on the poor customer service I have received, I will not likely go to any LA Fitness facilities in the future, and I will warn others as well. In the meantime, I am not going to drive 27 miles out of my way to work out at my current "home gym" in Edina. I will be stuck paying the $90 upgrade fee--that I was not told about upfront--if I don't want to waste 9 months worth of personal training sessions. Lesson learned.

  • I've been a client of Provider name locked. (owned by Provider name locked. Van Provider name locked. , who teaches most of the classes) for several years. It is a smaller, intimate fitness studio in Uptown. I've been a member of big gyms before but I found I didn't really need a lot of the extra amenities those big gyms provide and felt like I was paying a lot for what I got. On PRICE, I have to say, the best thing is that if you decide to start going there regularly, you can sign up for a monthly autorenew membership plan which offers a nice discount over the normal package pricing. The normal pricing was in line or lower than other smaller studios I've been to but still it's nice you can get a cheaper rate if you decide to become a loyal customer.

Provider name locked. is a high energy person and varies the classes enough to keep it interesting and keep me motivated. As long as I can get myself to the gym to class, I always have a good time and feel better for going. I have also participated in several 2-week bootcamps during the summer, which are held at different scheduled locations in Minneapolis (including some neat Provider name locked. /places I'd never been to.)

There are people of all different fitness levels in these classes. When I first started I was way out of shape but Provider name locked. integrates you such that you can fit in and get a nice workout without feeling out of place or overmatched at the beginning. There are some people who are in really top shape and Provider name locked. is able to give them the level of intensity they need, too.

The best thing really though is Provider name locked. herself. She has a really great personality and she clearly cares a lot about all of us who come in. I've seen some people come in pretty much obese, who have slowly and steadily over time lost weight and gotten fit and healthy. One woman lost like 85 pounds. I mean, a change like that takes a lot of time but that person was dedicated and Provider name locked. helped her learn to eat better and she seems to have made a permanent lifestyle change for the better.

That's the kind of thing that I found was missing in larger gym places. Provider name locked. is very personal to you and what you need and once you get into it you just kind of want to keep going. I recommend the place to everyone!

  • The facility is clean and well-organized. They have got a lot of equipment. There was a little bit of miscommunication. I was supposed to get one price, but they accidentally charged me differently, and I am still trying to talk to them. The person I need to speak to is there only at around 4 p.m. and I need to get a hold of him. So far, their customer service has been good. I still need to see how things go. They are very friendly and professional. Their price is very competitive when compared to other gyms in the area. I would use them again in the future.
