"Deserves the five stars and more. From the beginning when I brought my car in shambles: parts thrown in and a driver's seat unbolted, they were so supportive" and helpful. AND HONEST. They told me they could put it back together but wouldn't be able to get to it until mid-summer (it was the beginning of May). They told me to go back and gather some of the parts that were missing - like the back seat cushion, the headrests... I went back with the missing parts and they put in the bare back seat and took out the disassembled passenger seat so that I could pick up my dog who was at the vet's. When the beginning of
came the owner called me to let me know it was time to work on my car (mid-summer just like promised). They did most of the work at the shop while I still had my car to drive to save me on a rental (I had already paid for 3 ½ weeks of rental while the other awful job (from the other upholsterer) was in the shop. It took them under 2 weeks total and I was without a car for just under 3 days. A beautiful upholstery job, with a warranty, The
couple who owns it are WONDERFUL people and
who worked on it quite a craftsman. I am so very grateful for the job they did. It is impossible to get parts for old SAAB cars and this car only had 60k miles with a like new exterior and solid workings. THANK YOU to the Taylors and

Angie's Answers

?
I second the original question (still unanswered). Speaking as someone who logged in today to try to find an attorney, I see this category as one that's exactly what I have my Angie's List membership for:

1. It's important that I find a good one
2. I'm not an expert enough to know myself who is a good one
3. The industry is full of advertisements and misinformation
4. I wish I knew what experiences other people have had

?
I don't care about lawns--I planted mine in clover and don't have to mow it. When I do need to mow I use a rotary Fiskars mower, which is great--or a scythe. That's right--a scythe (the European type, which is smaller, and it's very good exercise). Gas-powered mowers, chemical fertilizers and weed killers--all nasty stuff that gets into everyone's air, soil, and water. I'm sure my neighbor doesn't like my wildflowers, semi-wild pockets of fruit bushes, and unmown areas and yes, dandelions (I have 10 acres) but that's too bad. It's better habitat for wildlife, especially the pollinators on which our food supply depends. I think this obsession with the Great American Lawn is a waste of time and resources. Plant some food instead.

?
I'm not sure Angie et. al. want you to have a complete answer to this question. By re-subscribing at the Indiana State Fair in 2012, I think I paid $20.00 per year for a multi- year subscription. Maybe even less. At the other extreme--and I hope my memory isn't faulty about this--I think the price, for my area, for ONE year was an outrageous $70.00. And they debited me automatically without warning. I had to opt out of that automatic charge. I like Angie's List, but if some of the companies they monitor behaved the way they do in this respect, they'd be on some sort of Pages of Unhappiness. I'll be interested to see if this comment gets published or censored out of existence.

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.

You have to put your self in the shoes of a business that is in business to turn a profit of some sort. All businesses have different overhead which in turn decides what their bottom line would be on their services. I personally would not go with an unlicensed professional for this type of install. You are messing with gas, venting issues, electrical wiring{electric water heater} and updated code issues such as a drain pan and tempature and relief drain lines for heaters that currently do not have them. I do agree that there are some companies that are way out of line for their installs but most of these companies are the really big companies that have very high overheads  I would assume. Tank type water heaters have changed over the last several years and with these safety changes come bigger prices. The price of steel thanks to China is skyrocketing and tank type water heaters are made of steel. Most wholesale plumbing supply companies cannot match what the big box stores are selling at retail to consumers. I happen to think from research that heaters such as Rheem, Bradford White and AOSmith who have been in business forever make a better product than what you can buy in the big box outlets. You also have to take in consideration the location of the water heater that is being replaced. Is it in the house, basement, garage or attic. Most 40 and 50 gallon water heaters that are purchased in a plumbing wholesale store in Texas cost between 300-340 for a 6 year warranty heater with 6 year on parts and tank. Speaking of warranty. Most big box companies will take a least 24 hours to a week to get your warranty problem taken care of. Most reputable plumbing companies will give same day service if they installed the heater.

So lets break down a typical install at cost to a licensed plumber in Texas

Heater: $315, water shut off $6.50, water flex lines or unions to code $20, gas flex line and cut off to code $12, misc fittings $15, Total $368.50 Lets add a 35% profit which is some what low  for a business $129, Total 497.50

This doesnt  include permits, pan and drain or any venting issues. The vent must go from the heater to the outside of roof using double wall vent.

Cost of permit on average $60

Most plumbing companies allow for 3 hours of time for a water heater. This includes picking the new one up. Delivering out to house. Draining and removing old water heater. Hauling off old heater. Installing new heater up to code. Going down to city and pulling permit.

Average Labor charges for heater installs $400

That would make this install run without extras on any code issues $957.50

I just had a 50 gallon gas water heater installed in my house for $1200 but I needed a pan installed. I used a licensed plumber.

Todd said it best.

An itemized list / cost breakdown, more often than not is used against the contractor when it is shared with other builders who will then beat it.

Good contractors use good people, and good people cost more.  Just the cost of having the appropriate insurance / bond can be the difference between winning a job or losing it ot a 'lower bid'.

It is the rule of three; there is Good, Cheap and Fast.  You can have any two:  Good and Cheap, won't be Fast; Good and Fast, won't be Cheap;  Cheap and Fast, won't be Good!

When comparing bids, it isn't the cheapest or the 'nicest' person you should select.   You should understand why there is a large price difference (it shows there are gaps in your design program or what you have asked for specifically, which means there may be arguments later).  If most of the bids are in line, and one is way high or way low,  you want to know why before dismissing or selecting them.

A price-only decision almost always costs more in the long run.

Good luck!

While I feel the prices was little high for upholstering 9 mostly square center console bay boat. The quality of work was very good and look great. The owner knowledge and suggestion made the upholstering look a lot better then I expected. They have a very good attention to detail. Even pre-drill the screw where I need to re-attach back to my boat. It's very small detail that I am surprise they look for.

Did some research and discovered there are not many shops that replace headliners. Multiple garages referred me to

the owner quoted me a price after looking inside my car. He talked up his service and at the same time bad mouthed his
competion nearby. Telling me the material quality he uses versuses the other guy. He let me know his was a better material and thicker foam. My car has a sun roof which I know now does not operate well with the thicker pad to slide open.
Madison Boat And Auto Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
should have known this and advised me on it. After all he's been doing this 20 years or more. He
Madison Boat And Auto Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
me to think he was going to remove the
head liner from inside the car to work the old material off in his shop.
Madison Boat And Auto Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
after initially quoting me $300.00 to do this job, saying he requires 50% upfront and ask me if I wanted to pay it then. I declined until I dropped my BMW off. He then glanced out the window playing dumb as he asked what kind of car is that? Oh thats a BMW!, I quoted you the dealers cost. I normally charge $450.00 to do this headliner.
Madison Boat And Auto Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
kept saying I should do the whole inside areas relating to the headliner because they will start to come loose. The immediate overhead liner was the only loose area. Obviously, he was trying for more money. He said he would call me at 10:00 am on Monday morning. He did not but I went to the bank and withdrew the money. and went directly to the shop and dropped the car off, About 10:45 by this time. While he did not call me I should have taken my gut feeling and went on my way. As I dropped my car he promised it around 2:00 that afternoon.
He wrote out a receipt for the deposit and as he did this he ask me if I wanted to pay the whole amount upfront. Again I declined.
The work started after he dropped me back at my motel. He called about 4:30 and let me know my car was finished and he was sending his helper to pick me up. I first inspected the work and noticed the yellow sticky foam particles all over and especiallly
under the rear of the front seats. I asked the helper if they had a shop vac to clean the mess they made, and he said no. I paid them and left. After driving awhile as I traveled my passenger pointed out the area between the rear passenger and front door
cloth was peeling like a banana of which was not like prior to Kevins work. I determined they sprayed the chemical release on that area when it did not have a problem. I suppose in hopes to get me back for more repair charge. He left my car a total mess. I realized he scraped the old cloth without removing the liner from the car. The foam was all over and the glue was at the edges of the sunroof and it would not slide open. He left glue on my leather seats and burlwood console. It cost me another $85.00 to detail and have the glue removed.
After talking to others I learned I could have had this work done for around $125.00.
I should have went with my gut when a business owner knocks another, it is a sure sign to run far. The work he did confirmed this. Thanks

After shopping around to multiple detailing shops,
Madison Boat And Auto Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
responded in a timely manner and indicated roughly how much a replacement would be. They were easy to schedule and after getting the car back, explained how there might be an odor due to the adhesive they used, but that it would subside. The headliner looks fantastic and I couldn't be happier about the work they did. The only flaw I would say is that they did not call me when the car was done after they indicated it would take a 1/2 day. I dropped it off at 8am and I called back at 230pm to see if it was complete. It was completed and I was able to go pick it up. Other than that small hiccup in customer service, everything else out weighed that. I recommend their services to any one needing ANY type of detail/trim work.

This company installs "touchless" boat covers, rolling canopy covers,
boat lifts, Titan solar screens, Encore performance decking solutions,
Spider, Mosquito, Insect systems, and Boat/Boat house detailing. While I
could not find a specific category that lists "boat covers and boat
lifts," hopefully those who are searching for a business that installs
and repairs boat covers, plus any other categories listed above will
find their way to this review.
A bit of background information:
We live on Lake Conroe, and hired A DIFFERENT boat lift/boat cover
company to install our lift and cover in May 2013. Two months later, a
storm passed through our area and bent the rolling boat cover (the frame
and cover) on one side to the point that it almost hit the top of our
boat. The company came out and charged us $1,100 just to repair the bent
frame and to re-install the original boat cover. At that point, we had
paid the company over $8,000.
Fast forward two years later:
The boat cover was badly mildewed top and bottom. In addition, another
storm came through and bent the frame and cover AGAIN. I called the
original boat lift/boat cover installer and was told the company has a
new owner. I asked for someone to come out and give me a quote to repair
the frame and replace the cover. Long story short, several phone calls
later, several emails later, several no-shows and excuses for not
showing up to give me a quote, and someone FINALLY SHOWED UP. After all
of that effort on my part to give the ORIGINAL boat lift/boat cover
company (Company Initials: TBLC) my business, the promised quote was
never sent to me via email as was stated. In addition, I contacted three
OTHER boat lift/boat cover companies, and they either did not return my
call or they did not show up as stated to give me a quote.
I located
Madison Boat And Auto Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
& Patio on the internet, and I
decided to give them a call.
Madison Boat And Auto Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
, the owner, answered immediately and
told me he was working in my area and would come by to give me a quote.
As promised, he showed up and gave me the quote on the spot. While I was
very interested in the "touchless" boat cover system that he installs, I
opted to have him just replace the existing boat cover with a new one
and repair the bent frame. I paid 50% deposit to him via Chase QuickPay
online, and when the cover arrived,
Madison Boat And Auto Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
called me and said the men
could come out the next day and install it. From the time I contacted
him until the time the job was finished, just two weeks had passed by!
While the men were here today, I mentioned that my lift belt was not in
very good condition. It just so happened they had a new belt with them
and they installed it for a very reasonable fee. At the company website,
it states "We treat you like family." Indeed, that was my positive
experience with
Madison Boat And Auto Upholsterers Provider Name Locked
& Patio....such a breath of fresh
air considering I couldn't get quotes out of any other companies I
contacted...much less get the job done! Apparently the other companies
don't need my business/money.
I highly recommend

Made appointment for drop off at 0800 and they were waiting when I arrived. Work completed as promised and on time. Van looks as good as it did when I first bought it 14 years ago. Would recommend and use in future for any upholstery needs.

Excellent service. I was worried that it might take some time but I came into the shop, spoke to the owner and he took care of me right away. I was able to be in the shop to watch the tech do the job and he did a terrific job. Interesting owner to chat with as well, very friendly and helpful. I hope I don't need their services again with my car but, if it should happen that I need auto reupholstery done, I would go back to
