    PHOENIX FOREIGN CAR SVC
I tried to replace the starter on my 2002 Subaru Forester. One of the two bolts that attaches the starter to the engine was frozen and I could not remove it. In fact, while trying to remove it, I rounded-out the head of the hex nut. I took my car to Phoenix Foreign Car Service (without an appointment) and described my problem to the man behind the counter. He asked me where my car was parked, went to it, jacked it up, used his better quality ratchet to crack the frozen bolt so it was removable and sent me on my. He did all this in about 10 minutes. He did not charge me for the service. When I objected, saying I had to pay him something, he said I could pay $10. So I did. I drove the car home and replaced the starter.

    Apex Auto Sales & Repair
After trying many different tactics and a large trailer hitch installation company to repair a badly rusted trailer hitch, I emailed Apex because of its reviews. All other efforts by me and the trailer installation company had failed. Apex responded immediately and worked us into their work schedule the next day and repaired the stuck hitch in the same day.

    MOORE'S TOWING & SERVICE
My experience with Moore's was a godsend. Another local company had quoted me an outrageous number to fix my vehicle, and essentially tried to scare me into spending the maximum price on their services. Alternatively, when I sought a second opinion with Moore's, they were compassionate, friendly, honest, and gave me several alternatives to help me afford the fix. I chose to fix every issue, yet paid $730 instead of the $1150 the other company had quoted me. I will absolutely be giving them my business again.

    Smart Motors Toyota Scion
I recently brought in my 2011 Toyota sienna van as the cable broke which opens the automatic side doors. I was informed that the motor and cable system needed to be replaced and this would cost 1900.00. My research for a cable replacement found a cost of less than 200.00 so this was a big shock. I had no idea that there was something wrong with the motor. I did not commit to fixing it as the cost seemed high and we could still open the door manually so could just not fix it. As I did more research I decided to take off the inside door panel and while pushing the button to open the door I heard the motor running. I also heard it when I pulled the handle on the outside. They told me that the motor needed to be replaced in addition to the cable system but it was clearly audible when engaged and working. After more research I decided to try replacing just the cable component. I ordered this online for 40.00. I spent about 1.5 hours putting in the cable attachment which did require me wrapping the cable on the spool that turns when the motor runs, pulling the cables. This was the only difficult part of the entire thing making sure they were even and didn't come off the spool when placing it on the motor. Once this was done I pushed the spool onto the motor and put the panel back on and Bam! it has worked every since, 2 months out. I didn't understand how they had come to the conclusion that I needed the motor and cable replaced and felt that I should get a refund for the inspection fee. I talked with the manager of the service department (I actually did this when the door panel was off and before I put on the cable component so he could see and hear the motor run). He said that was strange and went to talk with his mechanic. When he returned, his explanation why it all needed to be replaced was: it was too difficult for the mechanics to correctly wrap the cable on the spool so they would just replace the entire motor and cable components (they would come already wrapped and together in 1 piece). I questioned why I wan't told honestly what was wrong (lying that the motor needed to be replaced) and even if told this why couldn't only the cable component couldn't be replaced (because the mechanics were not skilled enough to do what I and other youtube video posters were able to do). He tried to rationalize this without making sense and attempted to split the inspection fee because they did do something? I protested, stating what they did was tell me that something that wasn't broken needed to be replaced at a cost of 2k when the part that needed to be replaced was 40.00 and less than 2 hours of time. He eventually acquiesced and returned the full amount. I will never take my car there for anything but to have recall repairs done. They will squeeze any penny they can out of you, how else do they pay for the free donuts and coffee.

Terrible. They tried to charge me to fix something that wasn't broken and lied to me about what was wrong. They were going to charge me $900 dollars to fix the issue because it was easier for them to replace the entire system then the single part that was broken. I was able to buy this online for $70 and replace this single part in 2 hours time.

    McDermotts Service & Repair Inc
Just had them do all kinds of work on an old Passat, and they swapped out snow tires for me on my Honda Pilot. They've done all kinds of work on my sons' Ford Focus and Saturn. We're always happy with their work.

They got the job done. I liked that they solved the problem. We were overseas at the time and my son was house sitting for us so I had him take the car in on my behalf. There seemed to be communication problems. It took longer than it was supposed to. It took several days and they kept promising to get done. It just didn't get done on time so it wasn't timely. It ended up costing a lot more than we expected. Some times they give us discounts coupons and things. We had one I thought, but I don't think they honored it. I frankly should have gone and talked to them about it when i got back but I didn't get around to it. It just dragged on longer than it should. It was one of those things as we get a new car to consider changing brands so we get a different dealer.

    SLATTERY'S AUTOMOTIVE SVC
Pat diagnosed my slow tire leak as a bead seal issue, power steering fluid leak as a corroded PS fluid cooler, and my coolant leak as a corroded rear heater core. He repaired the bead seal by cleaning up the aluminum wheel in his bead blaster, and replaced the PS Cooler with an aftermarket unit, saving me hundreds of dollars Vs the Lexus unit. He solved the coolant leak at the (un-used) rear heater core by removing & capping the lines feeding that heater core, again saving me hundreds of dollars vs replacing the rear heater core which I rarely used.

    SLATTERY'S AUTOMOTIVE SVC
Pat Slattery did a wonderful job at a reasonable price. He did a complete tune-up, replaced timing belt, water pump, belt tensioner & coolant, Oxygen Sensors, 4-wheel brake job w/ Calipers, Pads, Shoes & Rotors, cleaned up rusty parking brake parts in his bead blaster and saved me from buying new! Pat is an EXTREMELY knowledgeable mechanic and an interesting person to boot!
