  • For weeks up to 3 days before I needed them, they kept telling me (and all of their websites indicated such) they covered the county in which I needed them. Again, only until 3 days or so before I needed them to be present, they said they couldn't do it. All of this AFTER I had signed a contract!!!! To say the least, their trust and professionalism is not one of their qualities.

  • I had heard of Dr. Courtney Bennett from a friend who had called on her when their dog was sick and needed to be put down.  Knowing this friend had been very pleased with the way Dr. B. handled everything, I referred her to my daughter when they had the same need for their old dog.  Again, everything was handled perfectly.
I knew one day I would be contacting Dr. B. due to the age of our dog and decide to reach out via email and tell her who we were and about our dog, Max.  She was prompt in replying and said she was there if we ever needed her and to contact her if we felt she needed to come assess his needs.
A few weeks later, she came to our home ~ pockets full of dog treats ~ and during a two hour visit was able to diagnose his condition, gave us tips on things to watch for and did a full physical on him.  This visit was not only for him, but for us in learning to deal with the present and prepare for the future.
Just a few weeks later and after Max's health seemed on a rapid decline, we decided to schedule a time for her to come.  While it might sound callus to 'schedule' having a dog put down, we did this in order to have some control over the situation and we are very happy we chose this means.
For us to wait until he was worse put him and us at risk that he might suddenly be in pain, be unable to walk at all, who knows.  It also allowed us to clear our day of work, appointments, etc. and be fully present for him instead of risking that he might have a health crisis when we were gone or during the night.
When May 5th came, we got up early, fixed breakfast and Max got bacon and eggs ~ something he usually couldn't tolerate due to food allergies.  He loved it !  When Dr. Bennett arrived with her aid, Max was overjoyed to see this person who carries pockets full of treats and wouldn't leave her side.  When we decided it was time, we spread a blanket out under the trees and while he was busy stealing bites of cheese from me, she gently injected him with a sedative. He didn't feel a thing.
Within 3-4 minutes, he went from 'all about the cheese' to 'I think I'll curl up here and take a nap."  There was no staggering, drugged look about him. He just looked like a very content dog with a belly full of food and loving pats all around.  He was soon sound asleep and snoring loudly.  Again, this eased the transition as he did not look drugged ~ just peacefully napping.
Dr. Bennett told us every step of the way what she was doing or about to do and always asked for our permission before moving on.  At this point she asked if we were ok with her administering the final injection.  Seeing how peaceful he was and knowing that we had made the right decision for him, she took that last step and then listened to his heart.  Within a couple of minutes she said he was gone.
All I could think of was how peaceful it was and how he had drifted off to his next life while lying in his favorite spot in the yard on a blanket in the morning sun with his family around him.  I could only wonder why we're not able to offer this to our human loved ones, because this would certainly be my choice as to how to leave this earth.
We were given as much time as we wanted to say goodbye.  We wrapped him up in a sheet along with his favorite bone and stuffed bear.  Dr. B and her aid carried him to her car on a small stretcher where he was then taken to Faithful Companions Pet Cremation in Jeffersonville, IN.  As we had requested, a few days later we received his ashes back.  They arrived in a beautifully carved wooden box with a certificate, a stamp of his paw print, a clipping of his fur and a nice card from Dr. B.
The final charge for Dr. Bennett to come to the house that day, the cremation and return of ashes was $400.
All in all, I can't think of a single way in which this could have been improved upon.  Dr. Bennett is kind, compassionate and delivers a much needed service in the pet community through geriatric, palliative and hospice care.

  • I can't say enough good things about Dr. Bennett. She made a difficult situation to face as peaceful as possible. I'd definitely use her hospice and euthanasia services again for our future pets in need.

  • Dr Bennett was extremely compassionate and provided an excellent experience to an emotional and difficult situation. Having our dog pass away in our home peacefully meant the world to us. Cannot thank Dr Bennett enough.

  • She contacted a person that wasn't authorized to make decisions about my mother.  This caused that person to receive temporary guardianship of my mother and that person place my mother into a mental institution and that cause this person to steal everything in her house, over $300,000 worth of stuff.

  • Mercy Works Louisville (MWL) Caregivers have been providing daily Home Personal Care services for me daily since mid-February 2014; assisting with dressing, meal preparation, housekeeping, transfers, laundry, errands, and medication reminders. The daily assistance from MWL caregivers has enabled me to remain in my own home despite my advancing Multiple Sclerosis. We have been incredibly impressed with MWL. They have not only been reliable, completely dependable about times of service, and being kind and compassionate, they have also gone the extra mile. The business owners have developed a personal relationship with our family even brought cards made by their own children. Everything we have asked of them, they have done plus a lot extra.

  • My aunt was thrilled with the entire network of private duty caregivers closely related to a somewhat spread out family residing around the Elizabethtown, Kentucky area.  I already knew that most employees of the unusually excellent assisted living facility where my mother and father reside, Atria Elizabethtown, would be suitable.  I was recently my mother's live-in primary private duty caregiver until my father's own dementia interfered to the extent that I couldn't possibly continue.  Very quickly, I got up to speed on Alzheimer's as well as other dementias and was able to hire very excellent caregivers for brief respite.  When the best in the Louisville area told me my work with my mother was phenomenal, in an entirely unsolicited manner, I paid very close attention.
During my episode with my mother, I was exposed to the highest level of private duty caregiving available.  I continued personally working with my elderly parents' best friends until they passed as a private duty caregiver and POA (power of attorney, which they asked and appointed me to be.)  So I understand this work extremely well, both from the hiring and providing ends.  Because I had the luxury of being exposed to and hiring some of the best in this north central Kentucky area, I feel very free to recommend the many wonderful ones I both hired and observed.
Ms. Kay Calbert is, along with her entire family, among the very best.  Personally, she takes her job so seriously that she sets extremely high standards for her replacements for the usual time away from work - sickness, vacation and personal emergency.  She is unusually trustworthy, appropriate and capable.  Like the very best caregivers in Louisville, her family has had no formal training but seem to very naturally excel in this line of work as an honorable profession.  And their bench depth is a very serious plus.
Ms. Calbert is currently caring for my own mother on the weekends as of 08/18/14 so is only available for work from Monday through Thursday.  I very highly recommend her.

  • Mercy Works Louisville (MWL) is a locally owned business who provides personal care for those who cannot care for themselves. We have been incredibly impressed with MWL. They have not only been reliable, completely dependable about times of service, and being kind and compassionate, they have also gone the extra mile. The business owners have developed a personal relationship with our family even brought cards made by their own children. There's nothing sweeter than that. Everything we have asked of them, they have done plus a lot extra. Additionally, they are more affordable than the national servicer we previously used; so thankful we discovered MWL.

  • They did a good job and the lift worked perfectly. I didn't have any need for service and I'd recommend them. They did everything on the schedule they said and they cleaned up. The workers were pleasant.

  • Dr. Bennett made a difficult situation for us - putting down our young dog whom we loved dearly - a bit easier through her comforting words and methods. She realizes that it is an extremely tough time for you and takes every effort to help you deal with the grief and gravity of the situation you are going through. Every detail was thought of and addressed before she made the visit and she even came back to deliver his ashes, grief literature and a complementary clay paw imprint. If you have a suffering dog I would highly recommend you speak to Dr. Bennett as she realizes for a lot of us animals are part of the family and deserve to get treated with the same respect.
