Dr Sutherland explained my options for treatment of both the arthritis and the torn meniscus.  For the arthritis he did not recommend knee surgery since it would involve a total knee replacement, and he believed we should try less invasive options prior to knee replacement.  For the arthritis he explained that I could do injections, which would ease the pain for about 6 months, and only were effective on about 30% of the patients.  We also discussed physical therapy. For the torn meniscus the options were microscopic surgery to clip the torn part or do physical therapy.
I chose the physical therapy for both the arthritis and the torn meniscus.  I did about 8 weeks of therapy and returned to see Dr. Sutherland once a month during this time.  At the end of the therapy my knees felt much better, plus I knew the exercises that I needed to do to keep my knees in working condition.
I appreciated the fact the Dr. Sutherland spelled out the options and let me choose how I wanted to proceed.  He never tried to convince me to do a more invasive procedure.

They are absolutely fantastic. They have an array of doctors who do different things. They are great. When my husband had his knees replaced, the nurses had him up walking down the hall the day after the surgery.

Fabulous!  Dr. Crawford is amazing. The staff is wonderful.  Surgery went well, recovery was fairly easy and by the time school began I was walking full speed, cycling, etc.  Now, a year later, I can go through marathon length events and my entire body will be aching, except for the knee!  What a blessing!

WARNING: This office suffers from lack of internal communication and is more interested in running up needless bills than tending to patient needs . . . at least that was my experience.
In advance of my appointment I told the Dr.'s assistant very clearly that I had a single question: "Would I benefit from arthroscopic hip surgery"? I told her clearly that I am a former dancer, that I have full range of motion, that I already have recent x-ray & MRI images to bring, and that I know I am not a candidate for hip replacement.
Despite all the information I gave in advance, the visit went as if I were a total stranger looking for a hip replacement. They took new images (even though I had my recent ones with me). They asked me to show range of motion. Then they told me sadly that I was not a candidate for hip replacement (and for arthroscopy either).
Really? For this I have to pay $228.43 out of pocket? What a waste of time and money. They ignored everything I told them. They just followed their rote formula. They don't appear to care about patients, just profits. BEWARE!

Everyone is very friendly. They scheduled an MRI for my knee and got the results within a few days. The results were just a bruised femur. The Dr and his staff were very friendly and helpful during the entire process.

The Dr wanted to have surgery and remove the cartilage without trying physical therapy first. I asked for the physical therapy and then he said you won't need a returning visit which left me confused. If he was truly concerned about my knee, then wouldn't he have wanted a progress report or post therapy visit. It left me thinking he just wanted to make a quick buck from the surgery. The horrible thing about removing the cartilage is that you will then have bone on bone and get arthritis. I was disappointed when I left his office.

By the way.... I am 3 weeks into the physical therapy and I'm having amazing results.

Excellent doctor. He saw me for knee pain and I was sure I would be getting surgery but he actually recommended that I try therapy first and it has been working. He was very professional and I'm glad I waited to see him.

Dr. Swanson performed complete Knee replacement on my wife's Left leg. The other leg is now scheduled with Dr. Swanson. The surgery went exceptionally well and all interfaces with Dr. Swanson and his staff were exceptional. I would recommend the Desert Orthopedic Center and as stated before we only have experience with dr. Swanson. We definitely will use him again.

He really has an interest in you. He even calls after the surgery to see how you are doing. His PA's and assistants is top notch. Dr. Cichon does a great job. I think he has been always available. His office environment is really good.

Here is a surgeon who knew what he was doing.  I recovered in a very short period of time and the doctor was amazed how well I did recover.  In three weeks I was able to walk with a cane.  He was astonished as no other patients ever recovered in this short amount of time.  I didn't even have to go to rehabilitation.  My knee healed very well and the sharp cracking sound and pain subsided immensely.  He is a great surgeon and recommend him highly.
