  • Initial appointment was fine. It has been a nightmare ever since. There have been issues with poor communication, unreturned phone calls, and scheduling. A week after my initial appointment, I returned for an EEG. When I arrived they informed me that they told me wrong day. They wanted me to come back the next day but I had no way to get there as I can't drive. They ended up seeing me that day. When I asked about results, they said that I needed an appointment with the doctor to get results. No one had scheduled these when I made the appointments for my tests. The earliest they can get me in is three weeks from now. In the mean time, I still don't know what is wrong with me. I can't go to work or drive or function normally. I'm now trying to find a different neurologist.

  • Rowe Neurological sent me a new patient packet of paperwork to fill out. I am a patient who reads every word and I regularly make notations to such paperwork when I complete it. For instance, if the language says the office has the right to take and use pictures for medical training purposes, I decline that by crossing out the line, or placing the words "do not" in front of the word "give permission" because I don't want to have my image and medical maladies playing on video anywhere.
    In the case of Rowe Neurology, three of 17 pages (excluding those with instructions or basic information) related to payment and patient's responsibility to pay. Even though the Office personnel assured me they participate in the discounts via my insurance network, they had language in the contract they ask patients to sign that says I am responsible for paying all fees not paid by the insurer. I made a footnote notation there and added the words "I agree to pay charges unpaid by insurance and denied allowable per my insurance carrier's contract with your business." That't the way it's supposed to work - right? 
    I faxed in all 17 pages in advance of my appointment, as the Rowe office as instructed, and then I received a call from the office manager there. She said, "We're going to have to cancel your appointment because we cannot accept your paperwork. These are legal documents and they cannot be changed." I told her I realized they are legal documents, that's why I wanted to clarify that I would to pay any charges written off by my insurance carrier as unallowable. Furthermore, I've routinely made such notations on medical forms and never had a physician's office refuse me because I made adjustments to the contract to clarify or exercise my rights a patient. 
    What's more, they ask the patient to sign a document saying the patient agrees to submit a credit card number to be kept on file and Rowe is permitted to then charge that number at will until the amount they feel the patient owes is resolved. They say they will charge in up to six installment payments. The next paper in the pack says that if the patient refuses to submit the credit card for their automatic billing, the patient must agree to take out a "Care Credit" card (A medical charge card that has a dubious reputation for back customer service, high APRs, and deceptive timing. Buyers should do their research up front!) I was not agreeing to either of these options that took all control for approving charges out of my hands.
    I asked the office manager if her legal team realized the error in their language since it did not recognize the usual practice of insurance companies reviewing charges to determine if they are allowable according to usual and customary for a given area and procedure and deducting overages as "unallowable." She said, that doesn't matter, "we aren't going to be a good fit for your care." And I agree. 
    When I told a friend who has sought treatment for sever migraines for years about my encounter with Rowe Neurological,  she said she went there just once and had a "weird experience." She is now seeking care out of state.  Buyer beware!

  • Dr Hastings was great. He spent 45 minutes with both explaining everything, what to expect, and next steps. Lady checking (northland location) us in needs customer service needs replacing if she doesn't respond to customer service/compassion training. Checking out lady was fine.

  • I was scheduled with in the week. I was seen within 15 minutes
    of my appointment time. I was listened to!!! Not only did they take a through
    history but I had the most thorough exam I've ever had at any specialist and
    I've been seeking treatment for unknown cause of inflammation and chronic
    muscle and back pain for 3 years!!!
    The best part is they have an MRI machine there.  So after my appointment a scheduler came into
    my room and booked all my follow up appointments within the next three weeks!!!
    Including a sleep study!! No playing phone tag!!
    I was wowed by the professionalism and communication and can?t
    wait to have my follow up with the test results in less than a month from my original
    first patient visit. My only regret is that I didn?t find this clinic sooner!!

  • Dr Malik is a very impersonal man. Keeps his patience waiting an extremely long time. Over an hour with my mom. My dad just died 3 days ago and when told he just kept looking at computer and said "I'm not surprised". Very rude to my sister and mother. Not sympathetic with the situation at all. He seems no matter just put everyone in a nursing or in a locked down facility. Going to someone else.

  • I got them through my internal medicine doctor, because I have an issue. The first meeting I had, I really was impressed with the time that Dr Rowe spent with me. It was pretty detailed. He just gave me some things to think about and they scheduled things he wanted done. So I've done that and they had an MRI on the property. I've had physical therapy there, which I was very impressed with. I can't find anything fault with them. I have more appointments there.

  • I went here for migraine treatment.
    They did extensive testing including a MRI, MRA, and sleep study. Dr. Winegarner worked with me to try several different treatments which eventually nearly eliminated my migraines. I also did physically therapy here to successfully treat stiffness in my neck and shoulders.
    Their sleep specialist diagnosed me with a mild form of sleep apnea. I tried using a C-PAP machine but was allergic to the masks and got an eye infection. She referred me to an associated ENT surgeon who said I had a deviated septum and several other issues that would likely require surgery. This concerned me so I got a second opinion from another ENT. He indicated that my nose was not causing my sleep issues and no surgery would improve my sleep. He referred me to another sleep specialist who repeated my sleep study and determined it to be normal.

  • Several years ago, he was able to diagnose and to begin successfully treating me for a condition that my previous physician gave up on. He is very prompt, and usually begins the visit within a few minutes of the scheduled appointment time. He is the only physician that I have used that has read my chart and knows exactly what medications I'm taking and how I was doing the last time I saw him without having to fumble through my file during the visit. He has thoroughly reviewed it before he walks in the door. He treats me like an adult, listens to my questions and concerns, and answers them in a way that I can understand without using a lot of medical jargon. If he does, he explains the terms in layman's language. He has a pleasant manner. The office staff is friendly and professional. The examination rooms are clean and pleasant, and the waiting room is pleasant as well. I think new patients may have to wait a while for a first visit because he is so busy. Mine are always follow-up visits which are scheduled several months in advance, so I have no problem. I can't say enough good things about this physician. When I mention his name to another physicians they usually say something like, "Oh, he''s really good,." or 'You're in good hands."  This is, in my opinion, the best measure of the skill of a physician there is.

  • Dr. Torkelson was not willing to listen. He was very arrogant, condescending, and patronizing. My son had two thirty minutes seizures after his two month vaccinations when he was an infant. They had to administer Ativan in the emergency room to stop the second one. They admitted him to Children's Mercy. The admitting doctor and paramedic's told us not to give my son any vaccinations. Dr. Torkelson told us that it was not the vaccines it was just time that had caused the seizures. So we took Dr. Torkelson's advice and continued to get my son vaccinated. That caused me to almost lose my son. Dr. Torkelson was not willing to listen to me or take the time to read the ER report and learn that Ativan was administered. He came up with the conclusion that my son had very short seizures, because he would not listen. I would not take a sick dog to them for care. I have flown to other states to avoid having to bring my son back to him.

  • Dr. Larkin explained procedure and results as he was doing the consultation. When I thanked him for his promptness, he explained that was a goal of the practice. The only time they run late is if there is an accident that they have to attend to.
