" claims in their advertising and in an email they just sent me for renewal that "[Y]our membership means that" the next time you're out on the water enjoying a perfect day, we're right there with you, ready to help when you need it, whether it's a timely tow or fuel delivery, or just advice on where the local food is filling and affordable." NOT SO. I have a small sailboat (17 feet) that I capsized in a . Unable to right her myself, I called . I was about a mile from their nearest affiliate . They told me that to help me right the boat it would be a "salvage" job costing $150-$200 per foot. This is MORE than my little sailboat is worth! They said they could tow me--that towing was covered--but not "salvage." After drifting toward shore, a friendly 18 year old kid used his family's motorboat to help me get the boat upright. This took a whopping five minutes. Once I bailed out the boat and tried unsuccessfully to start my flooded (literally) engine, I called to get a tow back to the boat ramp where my car and trailer are located. They then told me that according to my record, I had called earlier and that a tow wouldn't be covered. Their rationale: towing me would be part of a salvage. They would tow me, but it would be a minimum of $300. Ironically, had I not asked for their help initially or had lied earlier about the issue, I might have received services. I sat, soaked after spending a bit of time in 60 degree water, on a drifting capsized boat that, had they helped, could have been righted in five minutes' time. I paid year's worth of to a company that shows no interest in helping its customers.
