Excavating reviews in Hartford

The whole team was very responsive and professional, gave us a fair deal considering it was an emergency situation and we couldnt leave the customers house until the problem was fixed. I would recommend Mark and his team to anyone in need of septic service.

    Alex Masonry
The work went very well, and the final result, especially in front, is excellent. I was initially overwhelmed by all the choices of stone, pavers and patterns available. Alex met with me a couple of times, and we also met at the store where he gets the materials. He provided helpful suggestions on colors that would look good together and with the house color. I had selected the style of paver I wanted, but he recommended using a similar, but smaller size paver, which was more suited to the width of the walkway. He was right, and I love the way the pattern turned out. He said that a non-random pattern was the way to go. I'm glad I agreed! There were frequent phone and text conversations. The job had to be coordinated with other work being done at my house, and Alex was flexible with this and trying to meet my schedule and budget. His dad has lots of experience and was helpful resolving a couple of problem areas in the backyard. The job looks great! And they cleaned up the area really well.

    Colla Construction Company
This project went very poorly; not timely, poor quality job, poor clean-up, and poor responsiveness. Things started OK: Joe Colla was initially responsive, presented what seemed to be a reasonable bid, and worked alongside his crew. It is also a family business with their name on the door. Those were the positives. Here are the negatives: 1. Work not done according to promised schedule. Before making my final decision, I asked Joe about his timetable for completion, which for various reasons was very important to us. On April 15, he emailed me "worst case scenario you would be done and paved 3rd week in May." After I decided to go ahead and provided Joe with the required $3,625 deposit, Joe became less forthcoming, and the actual stripping and grading didn't happen until May 16, the start of the third week in May. On that day, he emailed me "we will call you to schedule a paving date in 1-2 weeks." This actually didn't happen until about a month later on June 14. That's when things got worse... 2. Poor quality work: puddles, puddles, puddles! After finishing the work on 6/14, I asked Joe if he would like to walk us around and show us how he had handled various issues (drainage, allowance for the gates, clean up, etc), he responded loudly (and to my ears rudely,) "What for?" My wife mentioned that we were concerned about puddles, and Joe responded in the same loud manner, "No puddles! We're experts." I thought that this was strange, especially since I had just handed him a check for over $11,000, the 75% final payment. Shortly thereafter, I emailed Joe to alert him that puddles were forming even after our daily light lawn watering. One of these puddles was only a foot or so from a drain that had been put into the border of the driveway years ago to allow for the slight slope, a pretty obvious clue as to handling this problem. I sent Joe pictures of the puddles on several occasions. Some of the puddles last all day until they evaporate. See pictures. Joe did come out to look at it (unannounced.) He told me that he would come back and solve the problem by "putting some heat on it." He has not kept his word and has not even bothered to respond to my emails since late June. The clean-up was not stellar. I had to pick up paper scraps left by his workers and to ask him to take some boards he had left lying around. I have also noticed that some large hunks of the old blacktop were not carted away, but were just pushed into the ground cover near the driveway. See pictures. Of course, I am hoping that this is just a misunderstanding and that Joe will come and complete the work in a professional manner. If that is the case, I will be happy to amend my review.

The work performed was incredible. AJ and his team are real pros. The cost for all of the work they performed was more than reasonable. AJ came out for an estimate and explained the work he was going to do and gave me options on what different things he could do to help me out. He kept my wife and I in the loop every step of the way during the project. In addition, the crew didn't rush the job. They made sure the job was done right. Before the work was performed our basement would flood very easily when it rained. After the work was performed it rained and the basement was bone dry. This was a huge relief. Not having to mop up water every fifteen minutes was wonderful. Our sump pump doesn't run half as much as it used to. Basically, my wife and I are thrilled with the work performed and highly recommend AJ and his team to anyone

I was very happy with the service provided by Anthony and his crew.  They communicated with me constantly, were easy to approach with questions and they worked quickly. There seemed to be a lot of attention to detail.  All the debris and asphalt were carted away and the job was left clean.  They will be back in the spring when the trenching can be regraded and reseeded.    I waited to do this review until we had one good freeze and one good soaking rain and this was the week it happened. No water in the window well, water eliminating where it is supposed to be, and no water  near my foundation.  Thanks AJ!

Clog Master Plumbing & CT Mechanical Solutions
Clog master was very responsive, responding with prompt and professional service. The two plumbers that responded diagnosed the problem and explained what needed to be done. They located the misalignment and explained that my back yard would have to be dug up to gain access to the pipe. In order to achieve access the steps to my rear deck would have to be removed. The company set up the job date a few days later. They completed the job as they stated they would. The stairs to my deck were put back into place and secured as they were before the work.

    Better Built Basements LLC
BBB came to my house to provide an estimate on tearing out my 100 year old basement paneling and replacing some plumbing.  I sent an email Sunday night, and got a call Monday morning, and someone came to my house that evening.  They came on time, and on looking at the paneling told me I would need someone certified in lead paint demolition, and they had someone they worked with, but it would be cheaper for me to contract with them directly.  They also gave me advice on how to deal with my floor, which has tiles probably fixed with asbestos mastic.  I very much appreciated that unlike Connecticut Basement Systems, which tried to sell me a 20,000 basement system even after I told them I wasn't interested in finishing the basement, they did not try to sell me something I didn't need--I told them what I wanted, and they told me the best way to get it.  If I ever finish my basement I will go with them.

    Highland Paving & Construction Llc
I obtained multiple estimates for the work, and Highland's price, although not the lowest, was very competitive.  Antonio, the owner, and his company did a very good job, and he made a special effort to grade a particularly tough spot where ponding had previously occurred.  I asked that the work be completed by a certain date, and it was.  I think Antonio runs a professional operation and i felt that he wanted me to be satisfied with the work.  When completed, there was some very dark staining of the sidewalk near the apron from tracks of his machine.  I called him, and he came back promptly and power washed the stains and took care of the issue.  I recommend Highland Paving.

Honestly, we cannot say enough good things about Drainage Pros. They are professional, competitively priced, trustworthy, and - most importantly - excellent at what they do.
We moved into a 1920s home with major drainage problems. Four of the six original underground drains that collected water from the downspouts were nonfunctional. Our home also sat low on the property, and when it rained water flowed across our driveway, over the patio, and into our basement by seeping over the foundation. It looked like a small river coming toward our home and disappearing underneath.
AJ responded quickly to our initial inquiry and met with us on site to discuss the project. He listened carefully to our observations while assessing the driveway, patio, and grounds before sending us a detailed proposal the next day. The proposal listed several different stages and options, which we continued to discuss with him at every step of the project. AJ was always very  knowledgeable, communicative, and professional, responding to our many questions and concerns thoroughly and patiently (even when we asked the same question multiple times). Ultimately, Drainage Pros stood by their original proposal, working within budget, and they even guaranteed their work (although we don?t expect we?ll be needing the guarantee).
They tore out and had the old driveway re-graded and repaved, installed a channel drain behind part of the home, and laid pvc pipe along the entire perimeter to collect water from all six downspouts. They ran the pipe under two bluestone patios and walkways, all of which they reset carefully. They connected the pipe to our main sewer line, which required six foot plus excavations. Lastly, they reseeded the lawn (which returned nicely), and basically restored the grounds to their original condition. The paving company they coordinated with was also excellent, and they worked hard at communicating with each other to ensure that the project was completed to our satisfaction.
Personally, what I most appreciated about working with Drainage Pros is that AJ did not trouble us with all of the things that could possibly go wrong while performing such a major job like excavating and tapping into the main sewer line. He simply assured us calmly and professionally that he and his team could do the job, and they did. Perfectly.
We had previously discussed the job with a completely different (and also highly rated) contractor who appeared flustered by our drainage issues and, after charging us >$1,000 for an assessment and cleaning, was unable to offer us a written proposal or estimate without further ?diagnostics?. Do not waste your time and money, like we did. Just hire Drainage Pros, and they will get the job done.
We now have absolutely NO DRAINAGE ISSUES and strangely even look forward to when it rains so we can see how beautifully the water flows down the driveway, into the drains, and away from the house. If you are on this site searching for a drainage specialist, perhaps you can appreciate this.

Matt did an amazing job.  He removed the pool and concrete around the pool, as well as a rotting fence.  He graded the lot and seeded it.  The whole job took about 2.5 days.  Very happy with the work performed.  Would hire him again!
