Getting started: Provider name locked. requires that the customer pay for all materials up front. In this case, I gave him $3.600..which I found to be odd. He came with great referral, so I went with it. The overall estimate/bid was $8,000. He bills his labor by the day...not the job. His cost is $300/day. He bids how long the job will take, approximately...& provides a timeline of the project & what he plans to complete each day.
Before starting this job, we asked about pulling permits & Provider name locked. advised us against doing so. Having never done this, & this is our first commercial space, we trusted the advice of the professional-the "expert". After all, many people do work without getting it permitted. We had no idea the repercussions, nor that our contractor would leave us high & dry with full payment & not help us once the city put a stop work order on our door. Not only were we shocked to have our job halted, but we found out that our guy was not a licensed contractor or plumber!
In general, Provider name locked. proved to be a hard worker. To an inexperienced eye, he seemed to do good work too. However when we were ordered by the city to pull everything out that Provider name locked. had done, we found that none of the work was done to code. Had it been to code, we might have been able to salvage some of it. Instead, we had to start over from step 1 & redo everything! Provider name locked. walked with the full payment of $8,700 & refused to come back to help us, & in fact turned 100% of the responsibility on us, the customer. He went as far as to say we asked him to come work for us without a permit, & to keep the job as cheap as possible (neither of which are true).
Bottom line, if you need general home improvement work done that does not require a permit, you might be fine. Keep in mind that Provider name locked. is not a licensed contractor, which means he is not insured. If this is not an issue for you, than you will be fine. I would NOT pay in full until you are completely satisfied. He played our heart strings & acted pitiful, so we paid him in full thinking he would still help us make things right with the city. He took our money & left town, and told us he would not come back to help us unless we paid his travel expenses AND for all work he would have to redo. Might as well have thrown our $8,700 in the dump as we had to start over & pay it all over again, including fines from the city.

After 15 years of owning home, the window on the 1st floor of my townhouse began to show extreme water damage. The paint and drywall had peeled back to show the actual wood framing around the window on both sides. I called Provider name locked. who had done some previous handywork around my house. He explained there was no sealant around the top of the window when the window was originally installed which was probably causing the water leakage down the sides. He suggested removing the window fixing all the paint and drywall damage and re-installing the window with much better supports and sealing it properly. The job was done in 2 stages due to time constraints in December. Job was done professionally and I have experienced no problems in the last 3 months with the window.
