Water Heater Repair And Installation reviews in Grand Rapids

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • It went very well. We determined the age of the water heater and Jim gave me the options I had available. Even though, I did not go for any of them at this time, at least it gave a very good idea what I would have to do in the near future, given the age of the appliance. Jim was very professional, but friendly enough to establish good rapport. Thanks.

  • The Service Professor does a great job and I would recommend anyone in need of HVAC, A/C, plumbing, electrical and/or duct cleaning to not hesitate to call them for help! I’ve used them to purchase and install both an A/C unit and water heater. Both experiences with TSP were without any issues. Andrew Campeau, who installed our new water heater, was friendly and knowledgeable. Great company to use and trust!

  • It was great. Found my water heater leaking in the middle of the night, I drained it and called Jud at 7:30 am, he called back in a few minutes. He was at my house by 8:15am, had my old water heater unhooked by 8:30, took some measurements and ran to get a new water heater. By 1:00pm or so we had a brand new Bradford White (made here in west Michigan) hot water heater installed and running! It was amazing! He also piped in a new overflow pan to my floor drain to prevent any future leaks down the road. Great guy, friendly, and couldn't ask for more. I would not hesitate to use him again! THANKS, JUD!

  • Jud knows his stuff and is quick and efficient. He is also very responsive and will get your job done when you need it and when he says he will. This is our 3rd or 4th time calling him back for something new and he will continue to be our go to guy for anything plumbing. I won't let anyone else in the house if it relates to plumbing, there IS a difference depending on who you go with, I've been on the other side of this when Jud wasn't doing the work.

  • From one extreme to the other. We purchased the Vredevoogd monthly club service contract because my wife doesn't like surprises. The monthly membership provides discounts for parts, an annual visit for furnace and AC, emergency repair service no matter the time. All things that are meant to put you at ease. The other "interesting" fact was Vredevoogd would not allow an annual pay, apparently they tried this and their customers questioned the "surprise" annual bill. I can't fault Vredevoogd for this, actually made sense - the average person won't notice that monthly bill, but an annual, whoa, is it worth it? Probably the reason we stayed with them as long as we did was the second visit, but the first visit should have caused us to run away. We have had 5 visits: 1) fall furnace check, 2) furnace repair, 3) AC cleanup, 4) spring AC check, 5) estimate. Visits 1) Fall Furnace Checkup - Vredevoogd tech says the water heater is old, rusting and the drain valve is clogged and should be replaced. Also indicates furnace pan is cracked and a capacitor needs to be replaced. Visit 1 rebuttal) SCARE TACTICS!! water heater is old, however, the rust in the combustion chamber is pretty mild for a 10 yo water heater, the type of rust you would see after 10 yrs of condensation, e.g. nothing out of the ordinary. The drain valve works w/o issue. Replacement price quoted is unbelievably high for a very limited warranty - any box store warranty was longer than what was included in the base quote. Visit 2) Pan replaced and capacitor replaced both legit repairs. Also installed whole house humidifier. Everything was done professionally - could I have paid less? Probably, but there was no oversell during this visit (actually was 2 visits, but all about the repair). This kept me as a customer. Visit 3) FALL- Called because Consumers Energy tech indicated we had mice in our AC with lots of damage, dead mice, ran away (seriously). Vredevoogd tech confirms we have mice, quite a common problem, cleans out AC, no indication of damage to wires. Visit 4) Spring AC Checkup - Tech shows up - mice have returned, claims wires all chewed up, would cost $800 to repair, claims unit is 12 yo and refrigerant won't be available, unit is fire hazard, etc. Tech removes nest and leaves the nest debris right below unit, does not clean up. Pics sent by tech show nest but no wire damage - tech claimed damage was under nest material. Visit 4 rebuttal) SCARE TACTICS!!! If the unit is fire hazard, yet your tech doesn't disconnect power, your tech has spread that liability to you (Vredevoogd) by the way, not one wire has chewed, the clear covering (not the colored insulation) on one wire was slightly damaged, this could have occurred at the time of install, pics attached. In previous refrigerant change overs, HVAC companies stock piled older refrigerants to service older units (charging customer more, but available). This unit has never needed a recharge. A good Furnace/AC should last 20 yrs... Visit 5) Estimate for new furnace/AC. Estimator is nice guy, but furnace/AC prices are waaay high for middle of the line unit. BTW, was pushing contractor grade unit, their company branded Amana unit and another unit not related to Amana, basically all the same price (odd, right?). Estimate was for a "premier" unit, but the discussion was about all three. Visit 5 rebuttal) seriously? 3 different units same price? that should be a flag to anyone to walk away. Perhaps he only gave me pricing on one unit, but the impression I got from the discussion was it didn't matter. SUMMARY If you don't know a thing about how the appliances work in your home, then don't trust Vredevoogd. Even if you do know how everything works, you will have to spend time to look at the perceived damage that the Vredevoogd tech has discovered and make a determination of how much "scare" was included vs. real issues.

  • I requested a quote and was informed that I would need to pay $159 just to have a plumber take a look. To be fair, their normal fee is $59--the extra $100 is for weekend dispatch. This was a dispatch fee and did not include parts and labor. No quote would be provided unless I paid to have someone come take a look. Given that I would be giving away $159 if their prices were unreasonable or even similar to other plumbers willing to give a free quote, I decided to go with someone with excellent reviews who was willing to offer a quote without the unreasonable fee.

  • Jud responded promptly even though he was out of town at the time. Obtaining a quote was quick and was able to be done over the phone. He arrived early the following morning and rapidly finished the job. He was professional, kind, and used high quality products. I would highly recommend him to others.

  • I called Ryan about my leaking water heater and if arrived at my place within the hour. He quickly fixed the leak and he was on his way. Highly recommend Budget Plumbing for all of your plumbing projects. This is the 2nd time I've called Ryan and he comes over right away and does a great job!

  • Ryan is great! Another company had come out and told me I had to replace the whole unit. Ryan came over within the hour and performed the repair on the spot, no replacement necessary!!! This is the second time I've called Budget Plumbing and they are on site within a matter of hours addressing the problem. I can't say enough good things about Ryan. Highly Recommended!!!

  • My problem with Service Professor is they also do your furnace and air conditioning, which I don’t need. They won’t do just the plumbing and the air conditioning. You have to have all 4 from service and I don’t need all 4. They were good. I had it through Angie’s List, I think it was $39. They’re very, very good too. Very, very nice, a very nice man came. I felt very secure with him and he answered all my questions and told me what was going on, so I would give him a very high rating. When I had them come to my house for the water heater, they were very, very good and I would assume they are probably good in the other areas. It took a little over an hour to do the work, it wasn’t horribly wrong. I thought he was a very, very nice man. He cleaned up very definitely afterwards, there wasn’t a spot.
