    All & Any Services
Not well. they told me over the phone that they did this type of work. When the sales rep showed up, he told me they did this type of work and spent 30 minutes on how they would proceed. All seemed really good. Then a few days later, someone from the office called me and told me they do not do any tree removal, so no job quote or referral, just pound dirt. Why make an appointment and have your sales rep not know what services the company offers?

So good! Doug is great at communicating the process. He is able to do the work promptly and his crew is very nice. Rain garden: on our side yard, we have a large area where I wanted to plant some items that would be "water loving" to help absorb the water in the soil from the sump pump discharge; I found a list of plants and Doug was able to plan out where to plant everything so it looks good when it ends up blooming - I'm excited to see how it turns out! Because of the drain pipe and standing water (see below) it is as of yet not finished (still have to do a stone border and put the border stone in) but Doug has stayed in communication and we have decided to finish later this summer when the ground has a chance to dry out. Drain tile/pipe installed: we were having issues with the area where our sump pump discharges in the side yard of our house - excess water, a lot of it. Doug recommended some drain tile and we ended up overall getting about 80 feet of tile installed. Doug had great before and after photos of successful previous projects and it was successful for us as well. We still had a little bit of standing water, but not nearly as much as before. Stump removal: we hired the crew to remove three lilac bush stumps and one large tree stump. They were able to remove the lilac stumps but unable to remove the tree stump. They did grind it down far enough so that after covering the garden bed with mulch it isn't visible. Perfect fix for me as I don't plan on planting anything there. Grading on sides/back of house and under deck: did a great job. Layered top soil, plastic liner, then stone. Looks professional. They cut a nice natural edge for the stone so it doesn't go everywhere when there is heavy rain or when I am mowing the lawn. There are some strong plants that are poking through the liner but a little weed and grass killer is taking care of those this spring. Under the deck Doug found a gutter drain that wasn't extended far enough so he was able to remedy that for me while they were under the deck working by getting a drain extender piece and attaching to the current drain. He had some extra stone left over and after talking with my husband he got creative and did a really nice natural stone bed around a tree in our front yard. That was a nice surprise!! Installing border stone and planting in garden bed: they did an excellent job in taking out the old border and replacing with a new stone. Doug already had a sheet made up of options and helped me pick out a great new border. He was helpful in suggesting some hydrangea bushes and a Japanese maple to complete the front garden bed. I was hesitant about some of the maintenance and care required, but he was very helpful in explaining what I would have to do and the services he could provide (and how much they would cost) during all of the seasons to make sure my plants stay healthy and happy. Concrete/skimcoat walkways: we had an issue with water pooling and the walkway slabs sloping towards our house; Doug's father specializes in concrete work, so between the two of them, they were able to skim-coat both of our walkways and they look AMAZING. They provided great information about follow up maintenance (how long to stay off of it, if it got on any border stone, how to easily remove it, etc). I think my favorite thing about Fresh Cuts is their customer service. Doug is great at following up and staying in contact with when he'll be at the house, how a project is going, and if any changes need to be made. Both my husband and I have busy schedules, and he was able to work at the house without us there and still have great communication. It was also nice walking around the rest of my lawn and having Doug make recommendations based on what he would do. There are some things I am capable of and some things better left to the professional. He's definitely a man of integrity! I will continue to recommend him and his crew to anyone who wants quality lawn care and landscaping at a reasonable price from someone you can trust!

    Mackinaw Landscaping
Dan did a fantastic job planning and implementing a significant update to my long-neglected back yard. His ideas were spot on and fit within my aesthetic preferences and budget. He was flexible when I asked for a last-minute change. The price was more than fair. Communication was frequent and thorough. The work was done quickly, cleanly, and I'm very happy with the results. Highly recommended.

No concern for customer satisfaction after incomplete work.

We paid for a complete tear-out of our lawn and flowerbeds to thoroughly kill a massive infestation of creeping charlie (ground ivy) and level our very uneven and lumpy lawn. After they started, Doug told us we didn't need to till the lawn (even though it was in the signed agreement) but he assured us the topsoil alone would give us the same exact results. We trusted him, but we ended up with a back yard that was raised even higher where we wanted it taken down (see photo of behind garage) and still has dips and is not well leveled throughout. Weeds, creeping charlie, and grass were showing through the topsoil, and parts of flowerbeds weren?t cleaned out. Nor were they given new topsoil. Since I?m legally blind and couldn?t see to inspect his work, I told him I?d give him a call after my wife got home from work and could inspect it.  I called him next day and he said he'd come out and finish up some of the more blatantly overlooked areas but that we needed to give the rest time. But he didn't come back.  After two weeks, I tried again.  He didn?t answer any of my calls. Instead, he simply emailed that he'd decided they'd done everything they needed to do-- without having come out to see what was missed and what we were concerned about. Since he wouldn't talk to me on the phone, my wife finally called and asked him to just come look and again he said he'd come, then he emailed me 10 minutes later saying he he?d given it some thought and wouldn't be coming after all. So since we couldn't get him to come look, we emailed a detailed list, comparing our contract with the work that was partially done and/or incomplete. We felt that there were many things not done properly in comparison to what our contract said. His response was basically, "Too bad, you signed and paid already," and he would not answer any more calls (he actually hung up on my wife and texted her to stop "harassing").
Our foolish mistake was to sign anything (We thought we were signing a work agreement.) and write the check before the work was done. We made the terrible mistake of trusting this man that the work would be completed as discussed that morning, and trusting that he would make sure the goals were accomplished. He told us repeatedly that he "guarantees his work" and that he would come back to look at our yard after I was able to have my wife look at the yard, and he agreed to return to fix the problems. If he had come out and taken care of the little things and explained why he felt the rest should wait until spring, and been willing to take of it then if needed, that would have been one thing. But to promise one result and then avoid dealing with us again when we didn't feel we got it--as well as to take money up front and then change the plan--was completely unprofessional. Learn the lesson we did--do not verbally agree to anything. Do not sign or pay this company until all is done, and get any guarantees in writing. But you?d be better off using another company in the first place! He knew, because he was well aware of my blindness, when they left that my wife would have to check the work when she got home before we could say it was okay. I guess he also knew that once they left, they'd never come back. I feel taken advantage of. It?s a tough lesson to learn, but please learn from our mistake.

    TENDER LAWN CARE
From the first meeting to the last, Debbie worked with me to design my front gardens, using the plants that I already had and the ones I really liked.  She figured out how to move my favorite plants around and add a few more flowering bushes, with landscaping rocks, to make a beautifully designed front yard. She went above and beyond in making sure that even the rocks had color and shape that added to the aesthetics of the design.  The men that did the work were very polite and respectful of my property and cleaned up completely. They were very professional.  Everyone did all they could to make sure I was happy and everything turned out looking beautiful.  The design will continue to look fabulous as it grows in and the flowering plants will bloom at different times so there is color all season long.  Debbie and the guys really thought about everything to do it right!  They also stood by the quote for the work, no surprises. I would definitely recommend them to everyone!

    BRINK WOOD PRODUCTS INC
I was kind of disappointed because I didn't have over 15 yards of mulch this year so I have to go through another landscaper to get my wood ships. They did a pretty good job. The year that they were able to come and take care of my garden, they were really good.

    Weed Man - Jenison MI
They are very pleasant people; however, I did not think their quality was too great. They always arrived as planned, but
the workers were careless. They often did not pay attention to the finer details. I complained regularly and the management was responsive and offered remediation; however, the same pattern continued throughout the whole season and I got tired of having to watch everything so carefully. Quite frankly, I grew very tired of complaining. I have moved on to a different service provider for 2013 and my experience is all positive. I have never had to lodge a single concern and the price was a little lower than what I was charged by DeVries Landscape Management.
