    Jacobsen Remodeling Inc
Dwight Jacobsen came to our house, inspected our garage and then provided us with an estimate of the work to be done. We agreed on the price and day that the work was to be completed. Dwight and his co-worker arrived on-time the day the work was to be started. They completed the work on-time, making sure to clean-up the areas they worked in. Dwight even went as far as to vacuum our garage to make sure no nails would puncture our car tires. The electrical work outdoors was to replace an outlet box on a security pole, update the connector box attached to our house, and to reconnect the existing lighting in our garage. A new wall switch was installed as well. All work was completed on-time and to our satisfaction. We found Dwight Jacobsen to be a consummate professional, who employs quality craftsmen to work with him. Dwight pays attention to details and wants to make sure any job he undertakes is done to his client's satisfaction. We would recommend Dwight and his team to anyone considering a remodeling job who is looking for a contractor with integrity.

We hired Kevin to do an addition on or cabin. Kevin took two deposits from us totally 13k (8 for foundation and permits, dumpster) (5k for framing materials) and then he did not pay the excavator and lied to him and told them he had not taken a draw from us. They were going to lein us. He then ordered the framing package and tried to get credit when we had paid him for it. It sat for almost a month before we realized it, he said it was not in. Hs is a crook, liar, and a criminal. He spent our money and did about a $1,000 in work so we told him he owed us 12k and that was before we realized he had the foundation poured 3 1/2 inches too high and ordered the wrong windows. He agreed to make payments to us of $250 a week. Thoose stopped a month ago. He still owes us 10k! It cost us 16k to repay and fix his mistakes plus we did not charge him interest. He belongs in jail for what he has done to us.

    Northern Lights Construction
Had the absolute privilege to work with Northern Light's Construction/Stephen. After getting quotes from several contractors in the Grand Rapids area not only was NLC more cost effective compared to the market but, was promised to be completed before a majority of them. In 3 months NLC did a complete remodel of our home. Stephens professionalism and, attention to details were flawless which resulted in great finished product that we are extremely happy with and, proud to call home. Couldn't recommend a better contractor then Stephen. 10/10, 5+ Stars, A++ Work and, 2 thumbs up!!!

Bruce Johnson and his team were punctual and reliable. Bruce would call to let us know when to expect workers and what they would be doing. The project was done on time and within the budget that Bruce originally laid out. We are very satisfied and are already planning on doing future projects with him.

Overall they provided a great service.  My door is installed and looks great.  The brick mold was a little smaller then the original door  so the siding didn't butt up to the new door.  They put in a new vinyl piece to compensate and it looks good.  They also had to replace the kick plate because it was too large. They caulked and sealed everything up tight and I am now enjoying my new door.   I put a B for punctuality because they were suppose to show between 8-9 but didn't get to my house until 10.  By then it was down pouring so hard they wanted to wait to install so my house wouldn't get wet (thoughtful).  The rain ended about an hour later but I didn't see them again until noon.  It only took them about 2.5 hours to put the door in the first day and then about an hour and half putting the finishing touches on it.

    RESTORATIONS INC
We called Restorations Inc for a quote on finishing 2 rooms of drywall including the walls and ceilings (which were 9ft tall and included bulkheads.) They provided the quote promptly, began and finished the work in the same week. I was so impressed with the care that their employee took to cover our floors and to hang plastic, so that the rest of the house did not get covered in dust. The drywall looks great, and we would definitely use them again.

    Jacobsen Remodeling Inc

This is the third (3rd) major remodeling project that Dwight Jacobsen has completed for us. The existing bathroom utilities had to be removed, including the vinyl flooring. Dwight and Chris  (Son) accomplished this with little or no dust and clutter.

The new bathroom contains a fiberglass tub and surround, enclosed by 3/8th inch frameless shower doors, new base cabinets with a Corian countertop. A new linen closet replaced an antiquated one. The floor covering was replaced with a marble toned vinyl to match the toffee colored cabinets. Also replaced was all the old cast iron plumbing that serviced the bathroom. The result is fantastic. Everyone that sees the finished bathroom are amazed at the design and functionality. Dwight and the sub-contractors did their usual outstanding work. Dwight is a master at design and task accomplishment.

Dwight and the sub-contractors cleaned up after each task. Never leaving materials laying about the job site. I can't say enough about Dwight's excellent work ethic, and daily general attitude. Dwight did most of the work himself, and was on-site when the sub-contractors were working.  I must commend the sub-contractors , the plumber, electrician, and the painter as they are very professional and are the best that I have encountered.

When Dwight finished the previous projects, my wife (being a Grand-mother at the time) gave him a Grandma's Approval. She is now a Great-Grand Mother, so she is now giving him a Great-Grandma's Approval.

    Professional Home Improvements Inc
This roofing job was the most frustrating and disappointing home improvement project I have ever experienced.   I started to notice problems when they left a gap of about two feet in the ridge vent--right in the middle of the roof! It looked really odd. Apparently they couldn't figure out how to install the ridge vent where two ridges meet. When I questioned the way this looked, they 'fixed' it by adding a bunch of shingles to fill in the gap and created a hump in the middle of the ridge. That looked just as odd. I also noticed that the shingles were trimmed crooked at the ends of the roof, and the valley in the front by the main approach to the house looked like it had been shingled with little scraps. The front of the roof just didn't look right, and we realized that the shingles weren't lined up evenly across the front. Then I noticed that they had damaged the siding trim above my front door and 'fixed' it by nailing down the middle of the trim and smearing caulking over the nails. And these were just obvious things that I could see from the ground. I had other people who know about roofing, including a city inspector, climb up on the roof to check the work there. All told me that the roof by the chimney would start to leak in just a few years because the flashing hadn't been done properly. They pointed out  other sloppy work and shingles that weren't nailed properly.
When PHI contacted me to set up a time to pick up their check, I said that I wasn't satisfied with the job and wanted them to come out so I could show them the problems. They wouldn't come when I could be there so I had to leave a list with my son. When I talked to the owner on the phone, he told me I didn't understand and asked me if I ever installed a ridge vent.   They did 'fix' the trim even though they denied they did the damage. Their 'fix' consisted of cutting off  a piece of trim and wrapping another piece around a corner with the same nail and caulk technique as the first time--not satisfactory. The city inspector came out to meet with them, but the owner sent his son in his place. The job didn't pass the city inspection. By this point I didn't want them on my roof again.
I felt like the owner was bullying me whenever I tried to talk to him on the phone, and I was also dealing with some health problems so I finally hired a lawyer to be my spokesperson. PHI offered to get another company to fix the job, but I declined. I wondered if the new company would be any better since it would be PHI's choice, and I was afraid we would continue to
disagree about what needed to be fixed and about who would pay. I ended up hiring another company myself to fix the trim, the chimney area, and replace the front of the roof and ridge vent. I'll probably always worry about the back. In addition to everything else, PHI left a mess--lots of cigarette butts, nails and pieces of shingles.  We even had a couple flat tires in the driveway shortly after they left.

Addendum: Perhaps I should have stated
that the result of the City of Grand Rapids inspection was "Not
Approved." (Inspection records are available for public search
    at https://inspections.grcity.us/citizenaccess/.) Ron Gardner still
does not seem to understand where the problem in the ridge vent was
located. Perhaps that is because he never came out to my home when I
could be there to talk with him. I still have never met Ron Gardner
in person. I was never able to get Ron to agree to come out when I
could be available to discuss the problems and try to find a way to
resolve them. To my knowledge Ron only came out to my house one time,
and since I had to be at work then, my only alternative was to leave
my son to talk with him. Although I took off work to be at home
during the inspection, Ron sent someone in his place. The roof did
not have a hump before PHI's work. It does not have a hump now after
PHI's work has been replaced by another company. But that was only
one of the problems with this roofing job. And I ask Ron to please
look up and study the definition of 'cheat' before he or anyone in
his company ever again says that I cheated them.

    BACKYARD BUILDERS
We used Eddie (Backyard Builders) to build us a shed for our new home.  I had use him once before for a shed at my last home as well.  He came out, discussed the project, and gave me pricing.  It can sometimes take more time than I like but he gets so busy.  He built a nice 12x20 shed, pulled the permit, worked with me to fix any issues I saw, and I just love the shed.  His custom sheds are hands down much superior to any box store shed and unlike other custom shed companies he does all the site preperation as well and does not simply deliver a prebuilt shed and drop it on your lot.   Once started the process moved right along.  I would most definately use him again and may be using him to install our privacy fence in the spring as well.  Very very nice guy, easy to work with, and works very hard to make sure it is how you want it.
The only reason I gave them a B in responsiveness was for the time to hear back at times.  I struggle with that B as I know he works hard and is busy.  Price was a bit higher than I expected after my last shed but it was also over double the size and more upgraded options.  Overall it was worth it though.  One of my neighbors walked by a lot as he built the shed and ended up using him as well as she was impressed with the shed.
