Do Tire Patches Work?

Tire Buying And Repair reviews in Grand Rapids

    Christian Brothers Automotive
I bought a used car from a local dealership a few months ago. I took it in for some routine maintenance and also had the brakes inspected because they were occasionally squealing. They told me the brakes would need to be worked on soon and explained what needed to be done. I wasn't ready to afford that bill quite yet so pushed out repairs about a month. I have been looking for a non-dealership mechanic for a while and started asking around. I was referred to Christian Brothers by a friend so looked them up on Angie's List. All signs pointed to Christina Brothers so I called for an appt. (Plus, there was a 10% coupon) After taking my car to them, I learned nothing the dealership told me was what was actually wrong with my brakes. I am relieved I didn't have the work done at the dealership. The mechanic who called me to tell me what was going on with my brakes was very thorough with his explanation and gave me a quote and time frame for completion of the work. They drove me home in their courtesy shuttle and picked me up when the work was done. My car drives like it's brand new! Thank you so much for the excellent job!

They are incredible there. For me it was around $40 but other people if they don't buy their car there, it will be a different price. They are really wonderful about after care. They deserve an A. The oil change is good for me but I don't know about repairs. That was incredible. I would use the highest grade. They are excellent on their after purchase car care. If you have something wrong with the car, you go in and they deal with it. So no trouble at all that way. They went through the entire two years with me and they did excellent.

    Belle Tire
They helped me replace the tires with the proper size and diameter. I have over sized tires and they were a great help with which ones were the best for my car and what was available. Would recommend!

I just came without any appointment, went to the express lane and within 20 minutes the car was ready. They are very good. I have nothing but praise for them. The staff are very courteous and they always explain to you what is wrong and what are the options. They are a little bit pricey as most dealerships are.

No problems. I had researched and selected the tires that I wanted. They ordered them and called me when arrived. Scheduled an appointment to have them replaced - took less than one hour. Very pleased with the service.

They are wonderful. They are very nice guys, I really like them. They always do what they said they will do and it works out well. Their location is great. They are a little bit more expensive but I think they are worth it.

For years, I've been going to VW dealerships thinking I would get the best service from them, even though I knew I was paying a premium for it. I have, however, in the last few years, not been happy with the VW dealerships I went to for repairs.
Recently, my wife's VW needed some repairs. I took it to a local VW dealer in Grand Rapids and was not at all satisfied with their service and thought that all their estimates for some follow-up work was too high. I also discovered that they had been screwing up their service records between my Beetle, and my wife's Beetle, so that made things more confusing.
That said, I wanted to find someone who knew Beetles and got good reviews, and could do the work for a good price. I found Community Automotive on Angie's list. I took in my Beetle first to test the waters. I had a check engine light on, which was due to low coolant (I didn't expect that since you aren't suppose to need to add coolant to Beetles). They also found a bad wheel bearing, which was making noise. I thought the noise was due to new tires, but they told me otherwise. Sure enough, the noise is gone. They also fixed a gas lid that was sticking shut in the winter. Lastly, they fixed a fog light that had been cracked for years for half the price that the VW dealership wanted. The VW dealerships said they would have to pull the bumper off, which was the biggest cost. Community Automotive surprised me and said they didn't have to do all that.
I was so impressed with them, I then brought in my wife's Beetle. She had a coolant leak, and a number of other issues. Skipping over the details here, the important part is that Community Automotive beat all the prices I had estimated at the local VW shop, except for one. I then asked if they could match, which they did without a fuss.
Great shop, great guys, and I would go there again without hesitation. I highly recommend them.

    Belle Tire
Belle Tire is a very responsible, reasonably priced, and professional operation. They did the work promptly, recommended the right tires and did some research to save me some money. Very good experience.

Everything went well. I knew what needed to be done going in and then made an appointment to drop the car off for an analysis and estimate of the repairs. They did a thorough run through and came back to me with a list of many things in need of attention, and gave me what I thought to be a fair price on the analysis of repairs. I had them do several of the repairs, as well as leave others for future attention. The only point of issue I would note as a negative with the entire experience was likely a simple difference in expectation, concerning communication and expedience of the service. When I dropped the truck off for an estimate Wednesday morning at the time I had set an appointment for the estimate of repairs I did not hear back from the shop and called Thursday evening for an update at which time they had not yet completed the estimate. All in all the work took nearly a week, which I though a little unusual. I am happy to have quality service that takes time but the spattered communication makes planning difficult.

They did a good job with that. They do their work in a very timely manner and do a quality work. After I get my car back, I usually don't have any problem. I would recommend them for their timeliness and the quality of service they provide. I would rate them very high.
