Iron Work reviews in Detroit

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • Very unprofessional from Diseños. I called to get an estimate to replace my balcony railing. I spoke with Ana. She asked me to send her an email with pictures and detailed measurements, which I did. I got a response from her confirming that she had received my email. I waited few days before emailing her again to see if she has an estimate for me or if she needs anything else. I did not hear back. I tried again few days later, but with no luck. I tried one last time about a week after, with the same result. If you have no interest in doing this job, then at least have the courtesy to say so; there is nothing wrong with saying “sorry, but I’m not interested in your job”.

  • The sales guy came out the same day for the quote and it was a very good price.  I paid 1/3 as a down payment, 1/3 after completion, and the remaining balance 30 days later. The security bars were installed first and the installation went fine with the exception of my front window having a crack after they left. I contacted the office and spoke with several people and they finally agreed to send a glass repair person out the following morning after threatening to deduct my window repair amount from the balance I owed them. The window was repaired at no cost the next day. The second part of the sale was the installation of the garage doors which went great however an outside keypad was not installed on the door nor was a manual override in the event of loss of electricity. I contacted the company and they later sent out an employee to install the keypad stating that it wasn't in the original order but as a courtesy they would install it. I stated that spending $1900 dollars on two garage doors should warrant a keypad.  Lastly the rolling security doors were installed and I was very pleased with the install.  I had to hire an electrician to complete the electric security door and for 4 weeks it worked great.  The door was supposed to have a 5 year warranty on parts and 1 year on labor.  One evening the door locked midway and despite the motor running the door would not move. I called the emergency number and got a voicemail. The next morning I called again and got voicemail again and left another message. I then called the store and reached Mike who was in charge of installations. I explained my situation to him and explained the urgency of them to come out to fix it however I was told they may be able to fix it sometime next week and that due to the inclement weather and lack of employees that was the best he could do. I went back and forth with Mike explaining that spending 1500.00 for an inoperable door was not acceptable and that it was not my fault that his company does not have enough employees to cover the demand. He started getting frustrated and told me that arguing on the phone was not going to change anything and that he would be in touch if they can get someone out sooner. I then asked to speak with a manager or have the issue escalated to a higher up but he stated that I was talking to the highest person in charge because he was the owner and he abruptly hung up the phone. Two weeks went by and the company never contacted me until I submitted started a credit card dispute with Chase who then reversed the charge.  Oddly enough that's when the company started hounding me about the money owed and being concerned  about my situation.  During that time I also discovered also that Mike was not the owner of the company.  I had to have the door repaired by another company at a price of $700 dollars since new parts were needed and the installed had to be completely redone due to an initial poor installation. This company cuts corners when they need to and do not stand behind their warranty.  Thankfully I paid with a credit card for the final payment or I would still be stuck with an inoperable door,  Based on this experience I would never do business with this company again and recommend others to avoid them as well.

  • When I called he can right out and proceed to inspect what I wanted and explained to me how he was going to it. He took the step rails with him and said it would be about 3 weeks. In three weeks he was back and finished putting my rails up. Very good job. I thought the price was a little high, but my railings were in bad shape and needed to be fixed.

  • I have used Scotts many times in the past. Mostly custom jobs that are works of art. My parents used them before me and their work has always been beautiful and I do not expect anything less this time. I have always been treated with respect and fairly. I cant wait for my fence to be installed. I will keep you posted.
Fence is in it took a little longer than I was originally told but I was informed along the way. The fence is beautiful and of the quality I expected and paid for. I will call them again.

  • I tried to get an estimate on a fence for my yard. I was instructed to measure my yard and take a photo of the fence I wanted and email it to them. They would call me with an estimate. I chose to go with someone who was willing to work. I guess they must not need the buisness. I was really surprised and turned off but to be fair their work that I have seen has been beautiful. I spent my money somewhere else and they did a fabulous job! Scott Iron Works. Just want everone to know they have options.

  • Whenever I call them for the testing, they always do something a little bit extra. The previous company I had, they used to tell that the test is clear. Whenever I call Guardian, they ask me how they can help me and always offer assistance stating that they are available 24/7. Once, someone tried to get in through my window, so the alarm system was really helpful. Another time, I was talking over the phone when the alarm started beeping and went off. I couldn't hear it because I was talking over the phone. Next thing, I remembered that was my main door was not locked. I couldn't get out of my bedroom because I was so scared. I was talking to them over the phone and I couldn't even talk to them because I was afraid to see who was outside. She said that they were able to locate me that I was in the bedroom using the advance system as they had put in a central alarm system, which can detect where I am in the house. They were so wonderful. They can monitor if I fall or something. They can monitor and tell me to have my medication, if in case I miss it. They have security system where they can see what's inside the house. They have an air link system where they can contact when the phones are down. They are responsive and good.

  • It took them three attempts to get them on right. The first time I had asked some ornamental guards.
They ended up taking them back. The second time they did not have the right number or size of the guards. They finally installed them on the third time. They only will guarantee the paint for 30 days but within a month, I started seeing signs of rust. I ended up having to paint over them myself.
