    Royalty Deck Restoration
We had Royalty Deck Restoration rebuild our decades-old deck and add a railing, and they did a great job, so we didnt think twice about having them come back when it was time to do the staining. The guys are very good about listening to the needs of the customer. They are reliable, good at communicating, do beautiful work, and clean up thoroughly. Highly recommend.

    N&M General Contracting
I hired Nate to do various jobs as a lump-sum. The only part that was well done, was the concrete and it was actually done by a sub. Everything else he priced out poorly and performed even worse. I had to hire others to redo and complete. Messy, not on time and 0 interest in actually doing a good job. The only time I saw him, was the days he came to pick up checks (those days his team worked). Did not complete and at the time he received most of the money, he just did not show up anymore.

I got three quotes and Ed's was right in the middle. He had immediate availability due to a job postponement so I went with him. He is up front that his quote does not include the paint but was willing to work with me on obtaining the paint for his cost. Did the job in the time frame he quoted and did a good job. I also requested he quote me on painting my awnings when he had completed the garage job. He is in the middle of doing that job this week.

    Selective Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning
Selective Carpet staff get an "A" for friendliness and promptness.  They arrived on time.  Communication was "A."   A bathroom floor was added to the job on the spot.  Pricing was right for it.     Work would have merited an A if they  had wiped threshhold in the walk in shower.  Mold was showing in the corners of the shower.   In fairness to Selective, removing mold was not part of the job.   I asked about it and they told me to get bleach spray.   I did not expect them to remove mold, but it would have been better if they had mentioned it to me.    I took their advice and took care of it.      A "white glove treatment" would have earned a "A."    Overall, good work, friendly service.   I want to be fair to them!    Quality of Job = B+

    Lakes Professional Painting Co
The owner, Jessica that I talked to was very professional and courteous. The guys initially came out before the scheduled date and had not called. I had not remove the deck furniture or grill that is connected to the house natural gas line. They said no problem and left and came back on the scheduled date. They were two young and courteous guys. They spent the day power washing the deck, then came back a few days later after the deck had totally dried to stain the deck. After they were done I looked at the deck from the ground, but it's hard to properly inspect a stained deck until it's dried so I could walk on it. The deck had never been stained before and I noticed, once I could walk on It, that between the boards were not stained and the under side of the railing had not been stained. Also, there were fingerprints of stain on the vinyl siding and the lattice going around the deck I so called and was told by Jessica that the underside of the railing isn't normally stained but she would send the guys back out to take care of my complaints. They came back, cleaned up the stain prints, stained the underside of the railing, stained between the the deck boards, then totally restained the deck which was more than I expected. So, while I wasn't happy with the initial job, they went out of their way to make things right. Became of that I will be calling them for future work.

Very pleased with the work this company did.  They came out quickly for an estimate and were pretty busy for a few weeks with other jobs and some bad weather, but when we hit the top of the list, they called ahead to give us time to get furniture off, etc., and just the power wash took years off of it along with a lot of green stuff.  A crew came the next day or day after to apply the stain, 2 coats, and it looked great.  Also pleased that they had a carpenter they work with who could fix the door frame.  The owner came out a few days later to check the job and felt that the wood was so thirsty after years of neglect that the floor and top railings needed an extra coat, and he did that himself at no extra charge.  I should also say that his estimate for the work was half what a local general contractor was going to charge me for the same job.  I'm learning it pays to hire people that specialize in their field, I'm sure we got a better result with the proper wood treatment for a much more affordable price by doing so.  Will definitely call them in the future when we need this done again, along with the small section of wood fencing I forgot to include in this project.

    Woodbrook Painting & Powerwashing LLC
I found Woodbrook Painting & Powerwashing via Angie's List.  Prior to calling, I went to their website to verify services provided and service area boundaries.  I then called to request a quote for exterior aluminum siding painting.    I was asked my address, put on hold for a few seconds, then told, "Unfortunately, we do not paint residential homes in Detroit, only commercial buildings."  No explanation was given.
As this was contradictory to information stated on their website, I feel as a potential customer, I should have at least been informed why the discrepancy existed.  Was it a change in policy, a mistake on the website, etc.?  I completed extensive research including BBB checks before narrowing my selections to include this company.  Had this been indicated on their website, it could have saved me wasted time, not to mention the feeling of "biased rejection."

    Good Guys Painting
We purchased a new home last winter and contracted Good Guys to repaint the exterior last summer. The painting itself was well done and the crew that did the work was extremely nice, however, we did not realize until after they had started that the top layer outside was lead-based paint (we knew it would be present somewhere due to the vintage of the house but never realized that the prior owner had not painted since the ban in 1978). When they power washed the house, they sent paint chips flying all over my lawn, driveway and decks. I was assured by the foreman they would clean up completely afterwards however there were a significant amount of chips all over the property when they left. I belatedly educated myself on what should have been done and called them to come back and clean up. They did and the porches were better but the dirt around in the flower beds and in the pavement cracks of the driveway still had significant chips which I attempted to pick up myself all summer using rubber gloves and surgical tweezers. I figured that was my punishment for engaging a low-bid provider although we were reassured by the lead-safe badge when we researched them on Angie's List.

Please note: I had a discussion with the company owner on 11/17/2014 who indicated he was not aware of our issues with clean up. I believe him when he says this is not typical for his company and would like to submit this comment as a mitigating factor to anyone looking to use this provider. Although I was not happy with the worksite, I think this is probably an isolated occurance. The quality of the painting itself was definitely satisfactory.

The service was excellent. The price was very good. I plan on using them in the future. Jeremiah is the boss and he is very attentive and honest. I was very pleased with the service and I believed what he was telling me.

    Somerset Painting & Professional Improvements
First the owner Rick came out and looked at my house and identified what his company would do. He worked with me on the timing of getting the work done as there was an illness in my family that meant I had to change the timing of the job. He sent out a very good pressure washer to gently but thoroughly clean off the asbestos siding to prepare it for painting without damaging it
or releasing asbestos. He ordered the paint using his discount so that the price would be lower. Then Ryan and another painter came out and painted. They completed two coats in one day and came back another day to touch up and seal up areas and to re-hang the shutters for me. They were very thorough in cleaning up and careful of my landscaping.
Then Rick came out to review the work and make sure that I was satisfied before I paid him. While he was looking at the work he saw that I had a problem with my chimney and called an amazing mason who works for him named Nosh Vucinaj. Nosh came right over and looked at the chimney and advised me to fix it before winter or run the risk of ice freezing in between the old wooden frame around the chimney and the deteriorating bricks that could result in leaks into my house, chimney collapse, fire risk, etc.
He also saw that my porch steps needed to be raised up and leveled and showed me some blocks that needed to be replaced and tuck-pointed. He is a very detailed, thorough and skilled mason. He prepared a proposal to fix the chimney and the other smaller tasks, and followed up right away, getting the materials right away so that he could do the work on the one day when the weather was good as it was very late in the season. He and a helper came out and worked very hard from 8:30am to 6pm to finish everything. He brought very beautiful recycled brick, and the repaired chimney is a work of art.
The house looks so much better painted, and it is a great relief to have the chimney repaired so beautifully. I think that although my house is small, older and has asbestos siding (I am on a limited income) the combination of the paint job and the beautiful masonry on the chimney gives me pleasure to look at every time I step outside or drive up to my house. I would definitely recommend Somerset Painting and the people that worked on my house.
