Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • He came and was very thoroughly when I was interested in buying a property that needed more work than I was ready to put in. He gave it to me as raw as he could. He covered every inch of the home with prior knowledge of working on homes, it was informative.

  • The Owner and I had not yet set a date for the basement inspection. In fact, we actually had a basement backup flood during a rainstorm and I realized that I probably didn't need to spend $50 for an inspection to determine that I needed basement waterproofing.  However, the owner showed up at my house one day as we were recovering from the backup flood damage. However, everything he told us about our basement and  the recommendations that he gave us were helpful. We ended up not using his company for the waterproofing, but his consult provided us with information that we were able to use to make a more educated decision about waterproofing our basement. He was given a lower score for professionalism, because he showed up without an appointment and he appeared a little rough around the edges. No company paper, clip board, etc. (he wrote on a napkin).  However, he was very informative and friendly.

  • We spoke on the phone and he was able to accommodate the date for the inspection. He answered my questions when I called. I am an out of state investor so I am not able to be present at the time of inspection so my realtor and his associates will be assisting with the process. Since I'm not there most of the time to see things in person, I like to make sure everything is done correctly and if there is a problem, the person/company is properly insured. I asked if he was insured and he said "yes" and assured me that he is a licensed builder for over 40 years. So I asked if I can get a copy of the insurance to make sure. He said he couldn't because it would be "too much" work. I told him, I prefer to see a copy of it to verify. Then he told me to just hire someone else because he is too busy. He said he has never been asked to provide a copy.
My thoughts are, if you are willing to go out to get insured for your work, then you should expect that any client will ask to see a copy of it. Not everyone will just take some stranger's word for it. And if you don't have one, then be up front and say you don't have one. don't tell a client you have one and then say you can't provide it. Great business practice!
