FABULOUS!! So grateful I hired Northern Star! They provided great workmanship AND were extremely helpful with solving problems as they were discovered or developed. Michael and his team were always willing to go the extra mile as well - helping fix the little things (gap behind my stove, bad switch in my dining room).

The first thing was that 3 guys showed up. One was a salesperson. I did not like that at all. I wanted an inspection done not a sales visit,. I feel as though it was bias. It seemed to be a sales visit which should have been free. I did not pay for a sales call but a tech to come out and inspect and advise why I was losing heat. They were professional and nice however, It was more of a sales call than a inspection which was upsetting. in addition, I have no technical writing for the visit.

Jen works with very experienced subcontractors. I was a painting contractor for about 11 years and I've worked with many contractors over the years. I have to say her framer was especially experienced and very detail oriented. Her drywallers did a very good job (this job required a lot of non-right angles and the finished product looked great). The electrician was sloppy in terms of cleaning up after himself (but Jen was great about it). The tile work was great. Overall the project came in on budget and only about a week over the original timeline that she gave us (this wasn't a problem for us). She always answered e-mails immediately. The finished product looks great. She's a good person to work with. There were a few things that were done that I wasn't a fan of, but I'm honestly pretty picky and I notice every detail. I gave her a B in quality but this is more like an A-.

I had read the reviews on this contractor but chose to buy his service based on the amount of positive reviews he had received...wrong choice. This guy will either do the job or not do the job and I fell into the latter.  Her came late for our appointment and his behavior was extremely unprofessional.
He immediately wanted to know why the more expensive 6 hour service he was at the time offering on his page not bought instead of the one I purchased.  The statement and his delivery of it was rude and inappropriate.  Firstly, he had already agreed to the project.  Second, a skilled carpenter can complete it in 90 minutes at most.  Yet here he was, after being late, complaining that he can't do this or that, which in my estimation translated to he didn't think he was going to be paid adequately for the work he AGREED to do in the first place.
He continued in the vein of veiled contempt of not wanting to do the work and when asked point blank if he was going to complete the work stated he won't do it and as he walked out, muttered over his shoulder that I need to call Angie's List to inquire about a refund.  The whole process was humiliating, he left 20 minutes after he had arrived 25 minutes late for what was a PAID three hour job.  He gets an F.
Shame on you for treating Angie's List customers like a screening for who you consider to be worth your effort and who you do not.  Not to mention the amount of time wasted waiting for the appointment AND the pains undertaken to acquire the materials you so emphasized I needed for the timely and efficient completion of my project.  You took advantage of my valuable time and a left a sour taste of what being an Angie's List customer unfortunate enough to come across an unaccountable contractor  like him can be subjected to.
The work has been completed by another reputable company and they did as I asked and exceeded my expectations.  THEY will continue to get my business and I will spread the word about them so other people may have less chance of running into less qualified contractors like this one.

Although I ended up paying more in parts and labor, than I planned or wanted,Al had solutions for all the problems that arose in an old kitchen. He is more than a handyman and anyone one thinking of hiring him, should not hesistate and book him immediately for all jobs.

One thing that really impressed me about Frank is that he listened carefully to what I needed, then thought about it and offered advice and solutions. He sent me photos of several different paneling options (color, quality and price) so I could choose what I wanted. None of this was fussy, high-end detail work, but Frank definitely takes pride in what he does. He was able to schedule my job quickly. For both the initial visit/estimate and both days of the job, he arrived at our pre-arranged time, and cleaned up when finished. His extra "customizing" touches were very much appreciated.
Even though it's an unfinished basement used only for storage, laundry, HVAC, etc., the end result was amazing and definitely increased the value of my home. I plan on hiring Frank again for another upcoming job, and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone needing this kind of work.

Called Mr. Nothaft for a quote to build new decking over two bay windows. I explained that both windows are leaking and the repair is urgent. He came out to my house and took measurements on Wed, Jul 30. We spoke over the phone and he said he would give me a quote by the weekend. It is now a week later and I have not heard back from him despite leaving many messages. He understood the urgent nature of my request and if he is either not interested in the work or unable to provide a quote he should not have agreed to provide it - and at a minimum he should have not left me hanging with no follow up communication whatsoever. I cannot recommend this company.

Frank did a very good job. He had the right tools and experience. He. has many skills and is very honest. He came out with only 3 days notice. He is very flexible and accommodating.  I was able to schedule an appointment for 5 pm on Friday. I did not have to take time off work which made me very happy. I will be using Frank's services again for small and big jobs.

I told them that the stair' were not wide enough after the first step was finished, but they continued to install , now one of the step's has collapsed luckily no one was hurt. and the step's are squeaking which was the purpose of redoing them in the firs place.  There is a hole at the back of one the step's.  The flooring that was put down in my living and dining  room floor was also done incorrectly.  They  should have floated the floor and they didn't , there are dips in  different places when  you  walk on the floor.   The steps going upstairs were here when I moved here almost 30 years  ago and never caved in,   Overall it was a nightmare .  The floor leveling I purchased they made it to thick and the next day it looked like a heap of mess hat had exploded on the floor, and had burst open because they did not mix it properly and made it to thick. It started off ok and then it went left.
