"I was referred to Dr. 's practice by my primary care doctor because I had recurring episodes of excruciating chest pain. I didn't" know which doctor to choose, but after reading Dr. 's biography on his practice's Website, he seemed as good a match as any for my needs (as I needed a general cardiologist, not a surgeon). The office staff was polite and the nurse was very helpful in assisting me with the preliminaries. Once Dr. came into the room, the situation rapidly deteriorated. I have an extensive and complex health history, but I am in no way a hypochondriac. In fact, I suffered with bouts of transient chest pain for years before I finally decided to even mention it to my PCP in the course of a routine exam. As Dr. read over my chart, he told me that he felt he had to be honest in saying that a patient with chronic pain and fatigue issues like mine most likely has no actual illness other than mental illness. This was before we even got into any discussion of my chest pain. He said that it would be my task to demonstrate that his “doctor’s bias,” as he called it, was wrong. I was dumbfounded and appalled. When I pointed out to Dr. that I been referred to him because my PCP had a concern and it wasn't my idea to see a cardiologist, he said that this is what doctors do when they are too polite to tell a patient they think she has an emotional problem. He recommended that I take up meditation. All of this before he ever even picked up a stethoscope or started a physical exam. His attitude was arrogant, confrontational and somewhat hostile throughout the entire meeting. It just kept going from bad to worse, and I felt bullied to the point of tears. This doctor really needs to work on his bedside manner. Dr. said that regardless of his bias toward patients like me, he would still perform due diligence and send me for blood work, a stress test and echocardiogram. When I researched these tests later, I found out that none of them can confirm a diagnosis of what the referring physician was trying to determine in the first place. I skipped the tests and never went back. I just felt too humiliated to continue with the process.

"Dr. Calandro has been my cardiologist for the past 2 years. He is thorough, punctual and keeps me well informed. Great staff. He's not the folksiest person , but a really good doctor.

  • They have been great. The office is neat and tidy and they are also very patient with my mom. The staff is excellent, and the waiting room is great.
