    HOME INSTEAD SENIOR CARE
While at first I found the 8 hour/weekly minimum a bit off-putting, but as the only caregiver of my 90+ y/o mother I was glad to have the time off. The only downside was that the cost of Home Instead was not reimbursable (at all) under Medicare or my mother's long-term health care insurance. Both caregivers we were assigned during the month and a half we used Home Instead were extremely nice, professional, and trustworthy. We especially liked one, who I hope would be available to assist my mother any time in the future when the need arises. I am very glad we used Home Instead and would not hesitate to use them again or to recommend them to my friends and neighbors.

    Home Care Assistance Columbus
We contracted with Home Care Assistance for two older relatives (married couple). In the beginning, the care was very good. Their manager, Kat, was responsive and plugged in a good aid. The honeymoon ended a few months in. The quality of care dropped significantly. Home Care prides itself on matching aids with clients based on needs. That simply was not true in our case. We received aids that were new to the position and did not have proper training. As an example, when my relative said she was not hungry, the aid left her with a cookie and Ensure for dinner. We would expect the aid to be more assertive to ensure she received the nutrition she needed, or at least communicate back to the office so I could step in. As another example, the aids were not too attentive. One aid took my relative to a doctor's appointment and didn't go the extra step of finding a place for him to sit while she parked the car. They were constantly on their phones rather than engaged in service. In addition, we came to distrust the aids. One aid left and went home during her shift without notifying anyone. My relative called me to say she was alone for an extended period of time. When I spoke to the agency, they got in touch with the aid and she notified them that she was at Chipotle getting lunch for my relatives. This is a 90+yr old couple. They don't eat Chipotle and the agency didn't think twice about that response?! The final story was that this aid went home during her shift while clocked in. To be clear, this aid was charging us for services while not providing service -- essentially stealing from us. Home Care did refund those hours but these problems persisted. The most difficult aspect of this whole ordeal is that I didn't feel that I had an ally at Home Care to help me navigate my relative's care. When I called with questions or predicaments, the manager's response was always to blame my relative's mental state and then state that this is the level of care across the industry. We have transitioned to another agency that came highly recommended and the comparison in service is night and day. If you need services for basic tasks or a highly functioning senior, I imagine Home Care might do the job --- but, for what it's worth, we would not recommend their services to anyone.

Excellent. My wife really liked the workers. They were very pleasant and helped with cleaning, cooking, laundry, bathing, exercises my wife was supposed to do, and just helping entertain my wife. I liked the fact that they suggested things that they would be willing to help with.

Joe provided excellent caregivers while my mom was still in her home, and then they were able to help her transition to Permancy in the health care over center, my mom considers her companion her friend. Which says a lot, her companion is kind, compassionate at meets my mom wherever her mental state is for the day. It gives me peace of mind that she has someone with her that can focus on her needs even though she is in a 24 hour facility. We work as a team for my mom’s well being. It has helped me exhale during what has been 1 difficult process.

    Visiting Angels
It did NOT go well. The biggest issue was that my husband had a SERIOUS fall while being cared for by a Visiting Angel. Although we as a family understood that a fall could happen, we are APPALLED that when I entered the room, the Visiting Angel CARETAKER WAS ASLEEP with my awake husband across the room sitting in a chair. He fell onto to his fractured hip which was the reason he was needing a caretaker. He was badly bruised on this hip with abrasions on his lower back. He required x-rays to see if there were any fractures of the ribs and if the hip was further injured. There were times when the caretakers left at the time of their shift ended, but before the replacing caretaker arrived. These were not just short 15 minute intervals, but could be as long as 2 hours. One night a voicemail was left stating that there was no overnight caretaker scheduled. "Call if you have any questions"!!!! I called only to have no one answer. I kept calling numbers until I reached a person who had no idea about the problem. Someone did show up, but this added stress shows poor office management. One caregiver had the excuse for being 45 minutes late that his GPS gave him the wrong turn. The excuse didn't make sense because he'd been with my husband the day before. The Visiting Angels are given no training according to those I asked about training. All they had to do was say that they had experience. The lack of training showed. Needless to say we now have another agency in place.

At our first meeting my whole family met with Joe and Sherrie . They took a lot of time explaining the services they provide and getting to know what we expected of them . For the last two years we have had a girl named Karen .She has been amazing . She take care of mom , myself and 3 dogs . She cooks cleans Walks the dogs and even took us to the zoo last year which we really enjoyed . When Karen can't make it we usually get Sue . What an angel . She is a great cook really gets along with mom and even has taken me to the hospital on several ocaisions for surgeries . We consider them more than employees we consider them family. I would recommend this company to anyone in a heart beat !

    Visiting Angels
I called them Monday morning and told them my problem. Bill, one of the owners, came out to our house that afternoon and I agreed to try their service. On the following Thursday they sent a woman to hour house who not only helped my wife take a bath and wash her hair, but also provided me with 3hours of respite. When I came home my wife was clean, and happy about the whole experience.

The woman is very personable has developed an excellent relationship with my wife. I am my wife's only caregiver and I couldn't be happier about the help the woman is giving my wife and the respite for me. She comes to our house 2 times a week for 3 hours each of the days.

I have dealt with Compassionate In-Home Care for several years now.  They do a great job when taking my mom for her appointments.  I can not rave enough about Sue.  My mom loves how nice she is, and how well she takes care of her. She even calls me after each appointment to let me know how it went.

The owner, Joe, is easy to get ahold of when needed, and is very professional.  It is so nice to find a place you can trust!

    SENIOR INDEPENDENCE
I do not recommend this company.  They secured a signed release form for services from my mother, who lives in a Memory Care unit of a local nursing home.  She did not understand what she was signing, nor was the family notified.  After months of bills being sent to incorrect addresses, family members with POA eventually received a bill for over $2,500.  We have terminated association with this company.

Joe and his suggested caregiver Kathy came to our house to meet us, and we were satisfied with that interaction. We started inhome care 3x a week and it has been over a month now. The caregiver is just wonderful -- always on time, cheery, fully communicative. My husband looks forward to her visits, and she makes sure that he gets his exercise, eats a healthy meal, and is socially stimulated. Joe called that first week to check in and I told him it was all going smoothly.
    I am very, very pleased.
The only item on my wish list is the billing: at present it is all done by mail, and I have to send in a check. Using paypal or credit/debit cards would make this easier on clients.
