Concrete Driveway Installation reviews in Columbus

The work that Tony and his crew did is absolutely outstanding! Recap of the project: On Tuesday, the first day, they tore out the concrete that needed to be replaced and framed the entire project (new and replacement areas). The city inspector came the next day to review what had been done. On Wednesday, the third day, the concrete was poured. Tony and his crew were artisans in the care and precision they took with the finishing of the concrete. We have received many complements from neighbors and friends about how good the entire project looks! All through the project--from first contact to the finished product--Tony kept us updated as to when the project would begin (rain was a big issue!) and everything we needed to know about care afterwards. He and his two workmen were polite, punctual, and very professional. We would definitely use their services again!

The work that was done was fantastic. They were very accommodating and did as we had requested. The workers were great! They answered our questions and were very nice and they went above and beyond what we wanted. We will hire them again for some other concrete work we have in mind.

    The Garage Gurus
Please do not hire this company, The Garage Gurus, or contract work from Shawn McNeil until our work is completed. This company was recommended to us by the architect who drew the plans for our work. However, we are not happy with them. It is June 6, 2019. The garage is finished though we had to finish off the electrical ourselves since no one came back to connect the garage door opener. The concrete slab behind the garage has not been poured, the front porch finish work is not completed. The workmen left holes in the siding and framing throughout the winter (see photo) and just completed the framing and most of the vinyl work in May 2018 only because we called and emailed and texted Shawn McNeil, the contractor, to remind him that the work was not finished. After most of the porch work was done, the contractor, Shawn McNeil, claimed the downspouts couldn't be installed on the porch and garage until the trim was painted, but he couldn't find a painter. On May 12, we told McNeil that, in order to expedite this project, the painter would only need to paint the fascia trim where the downspouts and gutters go, and we would paint the all other trim around windows, doors, and porch ceiling. McNeil told us he would have a part-time painter at the house at 6 AM on the 23rd of May, and we were to leave the paint on the porch for him. The painter didn't show. We called the contractor to inform him that no one came to paint that morning. The contractor told us the painter would be there that evening after his real job, but the painter didn't show. The painter claimed he had stopped by but couldn't find the paint; however, we were working outside until 7:45 PM and no one came to paint by that time. Disgusted, my 71-year-old husband and I painted all the trim ourselves and on May 28th we told McNeil the fascia trim was painted and we were ready for the downspouts and gutters. McNeil and an assistant showed up Wednesday the 29th and installed the storm sewer tie-in. Around this time, McNeil said he planned on having everything completed in two weeks, by June 7th. By June 3rd, nothing else had been done: still no downspouts and gutters had been installed, no concrete pad had been poured, and the finish work on the porch had not been completed. We emailed asking if he still planned on having the project completed by June 7th. He replied that he would talk to the concrete guys about having the prep work completed on Wednesday, June 5th and possibly pouring the concrete pad on June 6th. On Thursday, June 6th at 8:44 AM, with no rain in sight, we emailed McNeil asking if anyone would be here to work on the concrete pad or gutters. He responded that the concrete pour has to be put off until next week, the week of June 10th, but he "plans" on being here tomorrow, Friday June 7th, to move the fence and shed for the concrete pad, and the gutters are to be installed the 7th also.. The gutters were installed June 7th and the shed was moved that day to make room for the concrete slab. However, the forming for the concrete pad was not put in until we rented a post puller and removed the fence posts ourselves after McNeil's assistant tried to remove them with a shovel, a bottle jack and a chain with no success. The concrete slab forming was done on June 12th but the concrete has not been poured. Today, June 21st, is bright and sunny. When asked if he would be pouring the concrete today, McNeil replied, "Sorry, not today. I had it set up for earlier this week, but it rained. I've got it set up again for next week, so I'll get this thing knocked out for you quickly." From the beginning of this project, calls and texts to McNeil have been met with many and varied excuses: His men left him for another company, he is swamped with work, his men are working inside since the weather is bad, his men are on another job and are almost finished (!), his men will be here the week of May 6th 2019 (they were not), we are next in line, and on and on and on. We have been overly patient with McNeil's excuses for not completing our contracted work. Columbus, Ohio has had many sunny good weather days since this project began in August 2018 that could have been used to work on our project. Unfortunately, we believe that completing other jobs has taken precedence over ours.

Excellent. Tony and his experienced crew are meticulous in their work. From the bid, to the construction and site cleanup, the work and finished product are excellent. I can recommend them without exception and will definitely hire them again should the need arise. Their price is also extremely fair and includes all of the work, no surprises. Once work commenced (outside concrete work being weather dependent) they diligently worked through the job to completion and cleanup. They are definitely a Super Service firm.

    Mark Rodgers Construction
I contacted them via email requesting a quote. I received a prompt response and they worked around my schedule for the appointment for an estimate. They were very upfront that it could be 8-12 weeks before they could get me on the schedule. However Mark was able to fit my job in and it was completed within 30 days of signing the contract. Mark was great to work with and he always kept me up to date on what was happening when and would tell me when schedules changed. The area where the parking pad was put had a slight slope but mark made sure the pad was level. I am very happy with his work.

Tony and his men did an outstanding job! Competitive price, accommodated our summer schedule, courteous, friendly service. There are many steps in the prepping, pouring, smoothing, and finishing of a driveway that were performed with meticulous, top-rate care.

I am very pleased with the work that Mr. Marchi and his crew did for me! We replaced an asphalt driveway of unknown age, as well as the concrete sidewalk at the end of the drive, and the concrete approach. The concrete approach was likely original to the home (1963) and was quite past its useful life. In one day, the old asphalt was removed (the drive was two cars wide and two cars deep) and the new concrete drive was formed and completely ready to be poured. Mr. Marchi had telephoned OUPS to determine utility encroachments and pulled a construction permit that was properly displayed by the laws required in the community in which I live. He did this as part of his work, and did not ask me to do it on his behalf. (I do believe that there is value in having oversight by your community's 'Building and Engineering Department-not that I think the quality of the workmanship would have been different.) There was a weather related delay of three business days. This., of course, is beyond Mr. Marchi's ability to influence. As it happens, the day that the concrete was actually poured was ideal. Much better to wait then to have freshly poured concrete rained on. The work that Marchi Construction did in finishing the concrete was excellent. All the joints were struck with great care. I was very pleased with the use of expansion joint material in all the right places. Very happy with the broom finish. Other thoughts: I got in his schedule early in the construction season. It still took nearly three months for the work to begin. I am not going to talk about his price except to say that it was very fair. I had many estimates, so I was very comfortable (happy!) with Mr. Marchi's price. When he scheduled the estimate, he showed up and was on time (again-way ahead of the construction season!) DO yourself a favor, and get several estimates. You will learn a lot just in that process. I did not get to see the work done, but my neighbors all liked him and his crew. My work is only one week old as of today. I really expected this whole process to be miserable, given the state of the building trades in general. I am almost afraid to say how well it went, for fear of jinxing it. I am hopeful that who ever supplied the concrete, mixed it to the proper spec so that I will have many years of a beautiful drive!

Tony was the only contractor that was concerned with the water drainage after the driveway would be poured. He recommended a french drain be installed in front of the garage. Most of the time I was not home during the work, but my neighbors were impressed with the work and cleanup each night. They arrived by 8 every day and worked till after 4. They were back each day until the work was completed. Tony took the time to personally answer all my questions. The drainage with the heavy rains this spring has been perfect. I would definitely hire Marchi again.

I got a very competitive quote from the company back in March and the work was planned for sometime in May. They did everything as planned the week of Memorial Day. They spent a day doing a very thorough job of preparing the job site. They came back two days later and poured the concrete. They thought they would have to wait for another day to finish the driveway, but they were able to do it the same day. They came back a week later (when the driveway could be driven on again) to clean things up, install the handrails, and fill in any holes with dirt. I'm very impressed with the work and would definitely recommend them. I did have one minor issue -- One of their pieces of equipment dislodged and cracked a few stepping stones in my back yard. Instead of having the stones replaced, I pulled them out and asked them to fill in this area with dirt. Accidents happen, and they did a nice job of putting dirt in this area when they came back to finish up their work.

Tony and his crew did an outstanding job. The old concrete driveway was cracked and crumbling in places along with our entry sidewalk. The old sidewalk and driveway were removed in one 10 hour day. They were delayed because of rain. Tony kept us informed every step of the way during the project. These guys are very hard working and I would recommend them anytime. Project turned out fabulous.
