Hardwood Flooring reviews in Cincinnati

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • HORRIBLY!! Don’t even let these people into your home if you care about how your floors look! Finishing Touches came recommended by a friend, so I made a huge mistake in dismissing older reviews as being past history and thinking the company had improved. Not true. Check out the Angie’s List reviews from 7/15/2011 (C), 11/19/2012 (D), 8/20/2012 (D), 5/31/2014 (C), 1/31/2015 (F), and mine. Couple that with the fact that the owner, Joe Sauter, is proud to tell you he’s been doing this for 30 years and he makes it clear he will continue doing it the way he’s always done it. In essence, he tells you that his company has not improved. If anything, it’s gotten worse! We had a number of problems with Finishing Touches and the owner, Joe Sauter, but the two largest ones were a very conspicuous area where his people oversanded the floor AND Joe’s crude, rude, unprofessional response to our complaint about the work. (Other problems included areas undersanded, sloppy staining, and marking of walls.) Because of the problems, I withheld $500 from the final payment (on a $13,217.35 job). After being told by his foreman that attempting to correct the oversanding would likely make it worse, I told his foreman to not attempt it. I then sent an e-mail to Joe telling him that I was going to be out of town a few days, but when I got back I wanted to discuss the situation with him in an attempt to resolve the situation “to our mutual satisfaction”. Here is Joe’s response (I took the liberty of inserting some characters in place of some letters in a couple words, but otherwise unedited – typos/misspellings/poor grammar are all his): “Your floors look great I will walk ever customer I have through there and explain we worked in sat Sunday and Monday Memorial Day your wife thank bill and gave him a bonus this is all about what you can get for a discount and is f#%?ing bulls#&t you pay you what you want and if your so called referrals are like you tell them to call someone else I don't need it I've done this in Anderson township for 30 years and I know what this is about”. A few minutes later, he followed that up with “A f#%?ing discount what can I get for free same guy that ******* at ever restaurant he goes to”. To which I simply replied “We’re done.” That elicited the following response from Joe: “Yap I'll be putting a Leon on your house Monday I met with my attorney this morning and I'll be sure to let all your neighbors know what a dead beat you are I'll get paid one way or another”. Before I returned home, he had already contacted an attorney. I had my attorney negotiate an out-of-court settlement with his attorney. Unless this is how you like to be treated as a customer, I sure wouldn’t have Finishing Touches or Joe Sauter do any work for you!

  • My family and I cannot say enough good things about Home Based Carpet and Flooring. Greg, Brandon, and their entire crew are absolute craftsmen. They are not ‘contractors’, not ‘flooring guys’, none of that - they are artisans and masters of their craft. We were fortunate enough to have them install new Luxury Vinyl Panels in our entire first floor of approximately 1500 square feet. They had to remove carpet, go on top of existing parquet, and over rolled vinyl. They did all of this, installed new sub-flooring to make everything flush, and paid attention to every single detail. They left our home every day cleaner than they started and had great, efficient, thorough communication throughout the project. Nothing was missed: from installing all new quarter round around the house, to going around intricate corners, to removing toilets to install underneath, to meticulously and thoughtfully emptying our pantry, can-by-can to install the flooring because I forgot to do so. They treated our home and our family like their own and left our home cleaner than when they started. I was fully comfortable leaving for the day and allowing them to do their thing - they do not sub-contract their work - it is them and families who’ve worked for them for years. We could not be more pleased and no photo will do this job the justice it deserves but here are a few to show their exquisite work. It was an absolute pleasure to work with them and I look forward to having them work on the upstairs in a year or two.

  • Excellent! The Weickert's team was flexible on scheduling the project, and then exactly maintained the proposed timeline (7 working days) from start to finish. The team was very friendly and knowledgeable, fully explaining everything that was to be done. During the project, they cleaned up at the end of each day, and at the finish, the level of residual dust was MUCH less than I was anticipating for a project this size. The end results were excellent - you cannot tell where the new floor was laced into the existing, and the finish is top notch.

  • Excellent!!! The office kept in-touch. The floor technicians were prompt, courteous, kind, knowledgeable. Started the process as scheduled on time and finished as scheduled. Very, very happy with the superior finished product!!!

  • Quite frankly I don’t know how they stay in business. Had a poor experience with them years ago, but decided to give them another chance. To be fair, we don’t have a huge budget, but decent for a small, one story home. The salesperson was not interested in helping us at all. It was so apparent that we left. I do know a lot about hardwood flooring and installation as I’ve put hardwood in all of the homes I’ve owned (6). I research them well and am a remodeling junkie. I generally know more about hardwood products than most salespeople, so when I work with people I’m pretty clear about what I want. If you have an unlimited budget and don’t mind paying premium prices for flooring you can get elsewhere for less, then McSwain may be your hardwood provider. There are other companies who want your business and are big on customer service.

  • The whole project could not have gone better. The owner (Jamie Moore) was prompt on every occasion. Their estimate was significantly less than the most expensive. The cost of the materials went up quite a bit between when the estimate was given and when the job was done, but that was out of his control. Jamie worked hard to find less expensive material, but in the end said he would not compromise quality to cut costs, so we agreed to pay the upcharge. The herringbone floor adjoined an existing hardwood floor, so they had to figure out the transition as well as match the stain (which they did to perfection). They also discovered that the room was not square (surprise, surprise) so they had to figure out how to handle that. They started exactly when they said they would. They installed the floor, sanded it, stained it and put on three coats of polyurethane in seven working days. They also put a top coat of polyurethane on the adjacent floor so that the entire large space looks seamless. Jamie and his crew are exacting professionals who took great care and interest in doing this project and they did an outstanding job. I would hire them again in a second. When you find craftsmen of this quality who can adhere to a schedule, you keep their number on file.

  • It never went at all. I left three messages for the business just trying to get someone to come and give us an estimate. None of my calls were returned so we moved on and found a fantastic supplier who did an outstanding job.

  • I contacted PFS after having used their crew through a contractor several years ago. I decided to work with them directly this time. We communicated mostly through text message for the estimate and scheduling. I was on a tight timeline to close on a house, get the work done and move in--one week from close to move-in. PFS was to install 1,000 sf of new oak flooring and refinish 650 sf to match. I was given a budget figure over the phone, which I ran with. Long story short, the work was top notch and finished on time, but not without a hiccup on the front end. If I had to suggest improvements, it would be the pre-work process, both in estimating and scheduling. Truth be told, that could be some of my own fault. After missing the start date, to PFS's credit (through owner Abel Morales), they rallied with several crews working together. After several long days, they finished a day ahead of the move-in and I was very pleased with the work. We were able to come to terms on pricing that didn't quite match my pre-work estimate. I was pleased that Mr. Morales again was flexible in working an arrangement that we could both live with. I will definitely be using Phoenix again, and would highly recommend them.

  • We hired Fabulous Floors based on price (got mutliple quotes) and recommendation from a friend. We had them refinish prefinished floors to a darker color. We also had them replace a carpeted room with wood flooring to match the rest. We were a little nervous as we had gotten mixed information on the ability to refinish prefinished floors (we wanted to get rid of the groove/bevel between the planks). We are thrilled with the work done, the floors turned out great ... you cannot tell the difference between the old and new floors ... they match so well. They did a decent job taping off areas to minimize dust. Only issue is that the tape pulled off paint on one wall. Communication was a little difficult with the workers on site.

  • The service was great. They were prompt, they did what they were asked to do, they installed the flooring correctly, gave several options for staining the floor for the client so that the client would see & choose, and stained the floor and finished it perfectly. From previous works, they will follow up if their will be things to be touched up. Their Pricing was fair.
