Premium Seal Coat mails flyers every year (mass marketing) where they provide low estimates for driveway sealcoating. I go to a website that has no information other than allowing me to enter your customer code and schedule the service. I've used them before and my experience has been that when they arrive, they claim additional work is needed and charge accordingly. Because they do this repeatedly, I make sure I am there when they do the work.
This year I had sold my house and no longer lived there. The current owner used the flyer received in the mail and set up an appt. with Premium Seal Coat (the estimate on the flyer is $240). The company not only charged my credit card for the seal coat, but upcharged the service (with nobody's okay or permission) an additional $80 over the estimated amount on the flyer. I know they did not get permission because they called my cell phone and left a message, a voicemail that I have kept, where the woman says that there is additional material and work needed for $80 and she asks for permission. I didn't speak to her, and neither did the new owner, but as I said, I still have the voice message, which I am including in my complaint to the FTC.
I called the company when I saw the charge on my credit card. The receptionist Provider name locked. apologized and said she'd send a check, but never did. She also refused to give me the owner's last name, which I thought was odd, especially because it can be found here on Angie's list.
I contacted my credit card company. Premium Seal Coat refused to reverse the $315 charge. Premium Seal Coat continued to insist I owed the money, including their illegal upcharge. The new owner of my old house got involved and paid the company the full amount for the service. I again disputed the charge on through my credit card, and Premium Seal Coat CONTINUED to refuse to reverse the charge. I disputed the charge on my credit card two or three times, and each time, Premium Seal Coat insisted that I owed this money.
Finally, I went again to the new owner of my old house and got the receipt showing the service was paid by her. I presented this receipt through the credit card company that Premium Seal Coat themselves had given the new owner, AND THEN they reversed the charge.
These people are very rude (call and find out) and their business practices are questionable; check out their BBB complaint file. I am also contacting the FTC regarding this company's practices because it is illegal to charge somebody's credit card without their permission. I have given my credit card criticism for doing business with this company.

They completed the job for the discounted price quoted on Angie's list. He was prompt and completed the job on schedule and the driveway looks great. I asked for extra sand to be added to the slurry because of having a sloping driveway that gets slippery. They did as I asked. I will definitely use them again.

I've used these guys in the past, always give a fair estimate and the sealcoat lasts a solid 2+ years, crack filling always blends in well and isn't done in a sloppy manner. They always tidy up when they leave.
communication could be better. It's very hard to talk to a live person as I've only had conversation when I call with their voicemail.
unfortunately this last sealing has lost my trust. The workers very obviously cut through an invisible pet fence that runs across my driveway. I warned the estimator about it, the scheduler, and marked the line with both flags and with sidewalk chalk warning them of the location of the line that ran in a crack in the drive. despite this they ignored the warnings and then cut the line (likely with an Provider name locked. trimmer) then in a desperate attempt tried to fix it with Duct tape (because if you can't duct it......). I understand mistakes can happen. the fact they never even mentioned it and then tried to sweep the whole thing under the rug even going so far as to try and sealcoat over their jury rigged fix, as if nothing happened, is just a little too dishonest for my taste. had their trickery actually worked it would have been nearly impossible for me to identify where the break in the line was likely resulting in a full reinstall of the pet fence.
