"Arnie takes great pride in his work and he went "above and beyond" to do an excellent job for a very fair price. I would highly recommend his services.

"
did a great job. Showed up when scheduled. Kept everything neat and clean. Since we had previously had our bath tub refinished this job" required an extra stripping process, which increased the cost slightly. When he was done it looked great. We have lived in our home for over 25 years and this is the best the bath tub has ever looked. If your bathtub is looking old or you want it refinished I highly recommend using them. You will not be disappointed.

Bathtub refinishing

Over time, the bathtub can begin to show signs of wear with stains, scratches, a dull finish or other ugly marks. Bathtub refinishing is an option that can return a bathtub or shower enclosure to like-new appearance.

OK - terminology issue here. The "shower pan" is a collection liner than underlies the shower floor itself, and is designed (if built and plumbed right) to trap any leakage from the shower floor and route it to the same floor drain pipe. Example image here, copper in this case -

It sounds like your are saying the shower floor or base unit failed - likely a fiberglass or plastic shower, which commonly fail due to incomplete support under them. This can be repaired if fiberglass, but is not usually done unless just microcracking, as it is hard to find an expert - usually you have to have a car body fiberglass specialist or a surfboard repair expert do it, and the color will not match perfectly unless you get a new gelcoat over the entire base unit. Cost about $300-500, ASSUMING the material can be repaired - true fiberglass can, thermoplastic can sometimes be welded but anyone's guess how long it will last without cracking again, plastics like PVC can rarely be fixed so they will hold someone standing on them. Any sort of repair is likely to crack again, because you have done nothing to remove the cause of the cracking which is standing on a base that is not fully supported over its full extent. Some cheepo or desperate plumbers try injecting non-pressuring type expanding foam underneath to improve the support - this does a great job of supporting it but unfortunately supports mold, so starts stinking in short order as a rule.

The normal fix is to remove and replace it, because once it is out there is no sense in putting a damaged one back in for the small increment in cost. Removing it means taking the shower wall liners or the bottom row or two of tile out so you can get the new base unit into place (because they overlap it), then replacing them. So, the $3000 range indicated is indicative of this type of job, which typically runs from a very low of around $1500-2000 for an identical base unit, to more typically $3-5,000 depending on whether a shower enclosure or tile walls. Of course, when the new one is put in, it is CRITICAL that it be fully supported - this means rubbing plumbers rouge or similar marking substance on the bottom, test fitting it, and then lifting it out and checking that all the stiffener ribs and support pads made contact with the pan, and making adjusments as necessary until it has full contact, then standing in it and rocking back and forth to check for any points not making full contat and fixing them.

The $10,000 plus numbers you got must have been for entire shower replacement down to the joists and studs, and the $30,000 range number would be typical for a full bathroom remodel with new shower or shower/tub and doors and surround, wall finishes, vanity, sink, toilet, and flooring and door.

The question is, can you afford Bath Fitters? Their price was a little higher than others, but that is not what I mean. The problem is that you will spend hundreds of dollars more each year to heat vast quantities of hot water and increased water/sewer bills. The salesman won't tell you that they will replace your nice shower faucet that lets you control the water temperature and the amount of water coming out, with one that is fully on all the time. This leads to much wasted hot water. If you care about the environment, besides your personal expenses, imagine a million homes like this and more going in every day. When I complained long and often enough about this, a service man went to Home Depot and bought a valve for the shower head that lets me limit the amount of water. The handle of the shower faucet is supposed to fit into the bowl of the wall plate, and does in the hall bath, but because there was a board or something at that location in the master bath the handle sticks out into the shower and I catch my back on it when standing back up after bending over. We like the appearance of the remodeled bathrooms and the work on the edges. I was concerned about the

of a window in the master shower and the installer and I agreed to chop a little off the sill and end the acrylic sheet in an unbroken vertical line that looks very nice. There is some wall damage elsewhere that he did a poor job of filling that I will need to fill and paint and baseboard molding to be repaired. There is also a line of caulk at the top that ends 1/2 inch too soon and a half covered over Bath Fitters logo on the base that now looks like a black spot. The workman that did the hall bathroom did nearly flawless work and the decision to put clear caulk at the floor seam was wise. The workmen put tarps down on the pathway from the front door to the bathrooms. The problem was that the bathrooms are small and large piles of stuff were brought in and placed in other rooms, on the bed, etc. These areas were not protected and there was gooey stuff on the master bedroom floor after they left and some sort of glue spots on the bedspread that will never come out. I don't suppose it would have been healthy to seal the workmen in the tiny bathrooms to do the work, so the result was the entire house was filled with dust and dirt. No one tell you this, but you should clean out the exhaust fan after they leave as it will be almost completely clogged. During the next few weeks I also picked up plastic shavings from my lawn, sidewalk and neighborhood. So, in summary, a mostly nice looking job, after you get through the dirt of installation, but unless you get them to add shower regulators, be prepared for higher utility bills.

Arnie was prompt to reply to my phone call and we set an appointment. He was on time for the appointment and did excellelnt work. The job was more complicated than expected but he did not short cut the time required to do a thorough job.I was comfortable with him working in my home and I would certainly hire him again.

I had them come out to get an estimate on putting a liner over my old tub and tile. They were prompt and more or less explained the process. One comment made was my walls were too deep for just one measure of liner by just a few inches, so would have to use more. He did not make any suggestions as to how this might be remedied, such as removing those tile overages and smoothing the wall for painting.
At $5400, it was just way too expensive for my very small bathroom. I will be seeking a lower cost solution.
I also did not appreciate the salesman's comments about the condition of my over 60 year old bathroom that had clearly had very marginal DIY work done by a previous owner. This is certainly not my fault.

Not happy with performance! Dirty shoes and did not clean up over spray. Called him back the same day about and can still see pink tub where he removed tap.

He was very professional. He was able to save us money. He determined the paint and finish was still good. So he just fix the chips and were the paint and finish had chipped off. I definitely will use him again when we need it refinished. He said that I should be good for probably another 5 years.

Arnie

did a very excellent job. It was a very challenging mess he fixed. He came up from Ky to

Township twice. When I called him based on Angie's List references. He planned to do the work the first time. On seeing what had to be done, he set a date and spent four hours working on the baths. There was a leak he suggesdted a plumber check, but it turned out to be from all the improper caulking. It looks very good now. Arnie is very accomodating. He is a pleasure to have working in your home. I think he is very reasonable in price. I would definitely use him again.

Arnie was great to work with. From the beginning the communication was great and I knew that was a good start. I wanted to get my parents bath tub re-glazed as a gift, so I called Arnie and he gave me a price over the phone. He also set up a date and said for any reason if something came up where my parents couldn't be home that day, to just let him know and he would reschedule. He contacted my parents a couple days prior to the scheduled date to make sure everything was still Ok and gave them a time he would arrive. He arrived on time and completed everything in one day and did an excellent job. Besides doing an excellent job my parents really enjoyed his company. He also added a slip agent in the bottom of the tub to help prevent falls which have happened in the past. I wish all endeavors went this smooth.
