"I think dog owners fall into three categories: those who have them as guard dogs, those who have them because other family members want them, and those who love their dogs so much they are an extension of the family, and in many cases, will treat their dogs as children. I fall into the last category.
My rottweiler had survived an amputation due to osteosarcoma and two years of happy life after that. Unfortunately he made it two years and three months -- which by all accounts is an amazing survival rate for osteosarcoma. When the time came for him to be euthanized, I turned to Dr. Shanan, whom a friend had referred after her own experience for the same purpose.
Dr. Shanan was amazing. He is not my regular vet. I visited him on a Friday afternoon distraught over my pet's sudden downturn. Of course Dr. Shanan told me that he couldn't give a professional opinion without seeing my pooch. (I couldn't bring him to that original visit because he was 90 lbs. and he could no longer help me help him into the car, even with a harness, and I had no one at such last minute to help me.) I returned on Monday with my little guy after a weekend of terrible pain for him. Dr. Shanan clearly saw that I had not had sleep all weekend and recommended that both me and the dog get some rest in one of his exam rooms. This also gave him a

to observe my pooch's pain level and overall malaise.
By the end of that session I knew what had to be done, as difficult as that conclusion was. Dr. Shanan scheduled me for the following evening. This allowed me to alert people close to us who wanted to come say goodbye. As painful as it was, the entire experience was beautiful, and not at all gruesome. Friends and family members were able to visit my little guy on his last day. And you know what? He knew it was time, and he was ready for it. I think Dr. Shanan's compassion, knowledge, and peaceful demeanor helped my dog to let go. I think Dr. Shanan did the same for me.
While I have focused on Dr. Shanan throughout this review, I want to also acknowledge his staff. The people there were absolutely amazing, from the moment I walked in that Friday afternoon until the day I picked up his ashes.
If you have a pet whom you treat like family and want to ensure that it is comfortable in its final moments, I highly recommend Dr. Shanan. Having an in-home euthanasia is not gruesome or as sad as one might think. I'm glad that my dog passed in his own living room surrounded by loved ones rather than on a cold steel exam table in an unfamiliar environment.

"I called Dr Shanan's office on Saturday morning about coming out to my house to put my suffering pet out of his misery that day, and fortunately he was able to come as soon as he finished with his appointments in the clinic that day. He arrived when he said he would, and was very professional and compassionate. My cat was not always welcoming to new people, and he understood and made the process as quick and easy as it could be. I appreciate the service of coming to my home to make my cat as comfortable as possible in his last moments, and despite the extra cost, would pay it a hundred times over again. They also sent a nice card later in the week expressing their sympathy. Very classy. Thank you

"Dr

and her technician
Chicago Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
visited us at our home yesterday. I had been recommended to
Chicago Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
by another vet as our 13 year old cat,
Chicago Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
, completely freaks out when we take her anywhere outside the house, which raises her blood pressure and gives the vet an inaccurate picture of her health.
The service provided was absolutely fantastic. Dr.

let

get used to her, made sure to get the most stressful test out of the way first (blood pressure test) and then examined

. The results really speak for themselves,
Chicago Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
was normal on blood pressure and healthy everywhere else. We had a nice chat on my couch about possible meds moving forward, and then they were done.
They listened to my concerns during the exam, didn't waste a minute of my time and even sent me a lengthy followup email based on some questions I had.

could not have been better taken care of, and in the comfort of her own home. I'll definitely have them back in the future.

"Great. Perfect. Ideal.
Dr. Dobner and her assistant were prompt, provided expert care, a thorough exam, and were very gentle with a frightened cat.
Without hesitation, I would gladly call on Dr. Dobner in the future.
Thank you very much Dr. Dobner!

My dog had been diagnosed with cancer. We treated that with an oncologist which I was told would happen. However, he also then got a second, different cancer. In discussing my options with the oncologist I determined that treating the cancers would add only months to his prognosis so I opted to keep him comfortable. I learned there was a vet who specialized in hospice care. At the time of diagnosis I was told he could live about 3-4 months. That turned into 8 months. I know life expectancies are not always correct, but I also believe that keeping the dog comfortable so he could enjoy life, eat a healthy diet, and spend quality time with family added some time. Dr. Shanan enabled that.
My regular vet recommended him because of his skill in helping terminally ill animals to be comfortable, and he also makes house visits. He managed my dog's discomfort and pain with various medicines. He was always just a phone call away. That support and treatment allowed my dog to spend his last months as happy as in his first months. He died at age13 playing and eating until the last day. I never had to say I am putting the dog down so he could avoid pain, we had drugs for that and I enjoyed my pet as long as possible.

"Absolutely the best, most compassionate vets and staff. We lost our dog to cancer (inoperable), but they were there with us every step of the way. Their extraordinary sensitivity was a real blessing. They were completely honest about his prognosis and clearly evaluated our options. They were there to answer our questions or console us whenever we needed them.
I gave them an A for price because I believe that their prices are in line with other vets, but I really don't know and, if I ever get another dog, I doubt if I will know because I'll be using them.

"He is absolutely excellent. We followed him from
Chicago Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
, to
Chicago Veterinarians Provider Name Locked
, and now to his own place. He is very good. He does all animals including birds, and reptiles too. We can see iguanas, tortoises, and hamsters. Once when we had a mountain warrior here in the city that had to be destroyed, Dr. Delenavarre was the one who discussed on television why it was important that a wounded animal needed to be dispatched rather than tried to be darted and taken away. He has a lot of credentials and is on boards. He is just a wonderful doctor. His price depends on what we get done; a visit and an exam cost around $45. He is totally professional and so I do not expect him to be cheap. We are taking our turtle to him next week."

"We had a dog with a cancerous tumor. we've taken him there for 15 years and they were wonderful. They have the best veterinarians who take care of our pet very well. We are very happy that they are the ones in charge of the condition of my dog."

"They were recommended to me by a friend. It was such a good experience when we got the shots that we took her back when she wasn't feeling well. They were super. If you come in for an emergency they are always helpful and ready to go. They were excellent."
