  • I hope some people read this, so you don't have to go through what we went through with this company.... We had some shingles that had shifted on our roof. Several roofing companies left us fliers wanting our business to fix our roof. When we were approaching the time to move, we decided to get the roof looked at and fixed. We picked one of the companies from the fliers, trying to give a smaller business a chance. We chose Kenny Ephraim Roofing. I talked to Ken, who is a very pleasant guy to talk to. We wanted a few repairs done, our gutters cleaned, and some of the missing and shifted shingles replaced. His first price was $1,100. After I paused, he quickly stated that he'd take $900 if I could provide cash. I agreed, which I now know was a mistake. He did the work, we paid him, and he left. Well, two months later, we had the inspection on the house for the sale. The inspector noticed some missing shingles on the roof. So, of course, we called Ken to come take a look at it. He didn't return our call. I called a few more times. No response. Finally, I got him on the phone and he said he'd be over at a specific time. The time came and went and he didn't show up. So, in order to sell our house on time, we had to get another company to come fix the work that Ken and his company did. That cost us another $1,600. I spoke to Ken after and asked for a credit. His response was, "do you have anything in writing from me?". Essentially, I made a mistake. Going on price alone, we thought we had a good deal. But really, we didn't do our job in getting what he was going to do in writing. He saw our mistake, and he took advantage. The truth is, they barely did anything to our roof. They made it so you couldn't see the missing shingles from the ground, took our $900, and left. But our real mistake, was dealing with Ken to begin with. Lesson learned.

  • I was bidding out a very large and difficult residential job (complete tear-off and re-sheathing of a 100 year Chicago 2-flat, 12:12 pitched roof, original cedar shingles with 3 additional layers of asphalt shingles) and Osmondson came out to look at the roof. They informed me because of the scope of the job, they wouldn't be able to do it at the time. I was not surprised by this, nor was insulted. Several other contractors said the same. However, what I was pleased with was that the owner sat down with me and wife for an hour and discussed EVERYTHING we should consider when bidding out a large job like this, what to look for in good and bad contractors, materials and techniques that we should expect and what to include in a contract to protect ourselves. I would recommend that you call up this company. They seemed like a trustworthy and quality outfit.

  • Scott was very professional, responsive and accommodating. Quoted us a fair price, took the time to match the shingles on the house, completed the job quickly. Would use them again without hesitation.

  • Very well. Everyone who worked on my house was very considerate of my home. In the office Laura returned phone calls when she said she would. She showed much loyalty to the company while maintaining a relationship with me regarding the delivery of windows. The employees installing the work were careful and excellent about leaving their work space clean.

  • Scott was responsive to my call and arranged for a quick visit. After thoroughly discussing a few options for changes to my roof, I opted for only having one thing done at this time- a new exhaust hood installed (I did the duct work in the attic myself). Scott was able to schedule the work fairly quickly and altho I wasn’t home when he showed up which I had requested, I have to trust the work was done correctly. He left a voicemail to tell me it was complete and the invoice arrived quickly thereafter. I was generally pleased with his communication and fairness of the price and will consider using them again in the future.

  • Tom and his team did a fantastic job. From the first meeting to get a quote to their final clean up, they were highly professional and friendly. Tom's quote came in significantly lower than the other 2 quotes we received and the quality of their work was top notch. We highly recommend Buk Roofing and would definitely use them again.

  • John scheduled time within a day for he and his team to look over the ceiling damage and help me track down the cause of the leak. They caulked the gaps around the building scupper boxes as well as several cracks that were especially large. In addition, they highlighted other maintenance that needed to be addressed on the condo building roof to prevent further problems. I'd definitely recommend them to others.

  • John was extremely responsive when I called, scheduling the condo repairs within a few days and prior to the next predicted rainfall. His team was very thorough in addressing all visible cracks and applying a thick layer of waterproofing to the interior parapet walls of our condo roof. In addition, he and his team highlighted multiple places where water was leaking through the roof's membrane, and John explained how moisture had damaged the underlying roof structure over time, which was extremely helpful to understand. He provided a quote to address the immediate concerns, as I requested. I've used John and his team for multiple repairs and would definitely recommend him and his company to others. They're fairly priced and do great quality work.

  • This crew is nothing short of a scam. I hired them to do some sealant work on an 8 unit building in the Bucktown neighborhood. They came in with a low ball number and seemed friendly and really in need of the job. So I thought that I may be just getting a good deal on my small two-day project in between larger jobs for them. They tried telling me they were done with the job. If I was not a handy person and able to recognize incomplete work I would have been embarrassingly ripped off. After they claimed to have completed the rest of the job for the second time they told my neighbor(the condo association treasure) they were done, collected their check and left. The job site was a mess and there were still obvious areas that were not done. I called and threatened to cancel the check if they did not come back. They came back to finish the area that I could see was not done. A few weeks later after we got a good rain all the leaks they were supposed to have fixed on one side of the building were still leaking. I discovered that they did not seal 4 of the six drains they were supposed to seal. They did not remove the old caulking as was detailed in our contract. They only applied a sloppy caulk job over the old caulk that needed to be replaced. They will not come out to finish the job so we have had to hire another contractor. These guys are crooks.

  • It seemed odd that they sent someone out to take pictures who knew little about roofing and could answer no questions so I was initially not inclined to follow up on proposal that was higher priced than others. But we had some unique needs (tight timeline, interior mold issues, existing roof construction method) and found Tan's to be very flexible and responsive as we explored options. The solution we ended up with involved Tan's tearing off the existing flat roof, removing insulation batts, scrubbing mold spots from rafters, and laying a new roof (plywood, insulation and roofing material). We then had foam insullation blown in from interior, drywall patched and painted by others. The work was done in a week and the crew was hard working and quality conscious. But there were issues with the parapet wall mortar and trimming the old roofing material that were ignored. I had to point out these visibly inadequate aspects that a knowlegable manager/forman should have been identifying as extra work earlier. Tan's did come back subsequently to do the extra work. We are satisfied with the overall results.
