    Ross, Dr. Matthew
I would imagine most would agree that it would be intimidating to walk into a neurosurgeon's office. However - from scheduling my appointment, to checking in and consulting with Dr. Ross - the entire experience was exceptional. The person who took my appointment and checked me in (I believe her name is Alma) was so sweet and welcoming. And then to my surprise, Dr. Ross was amazing. He listened, reviewed and explained my MRI results, and did a physical examination/strength tests. Thankfully, I do not require surgery. Dr. Ross answered all questions with kindness and patience and explained in easy to explain detail what he believes is happening with my numb fingers, painful shoulder and bulging discs. And it made complete sense. My husband and I were so pleased not only with Dr. Ross' expertise and bedside manner, but also with his overall demeanor. Such a kind, easy going guy. Again, while I do not require surgery at this point, I would definitely allow Dr. Ross to perform surgery if needed down the road. That is if he's not retired :) I would also not hesitate to recommend him to family/friends.

    Ross, Dr. Matthew
Dr. Ross was able to give me non-narcotic medications for pain. Also he suggested some alternative treatments. He is straight and honest about when surgery will help and when it won't.

    Tadanori Tomita MD
Dr. Tomita is one of the world's experts. The only that I have problems with around Dr. Tomita is that he has a very pronounced accent being from Japan. When I speak with him I always have to stop him and ask him to repeat about one out of every five sentences. He is always more than willing to repeat himself though. He is very sweet. He is very cautious. He doesn't do brain surgery for the fun of it.

    Traynelis, Dr. Vincent C.
I saw a couple of neurosurgeons who thought I needed disc replacement surgery in my neck. I went to him because I couldn't deal with it. Compared to the other two surgeons, he was very thorough. He asked a lot of questions. He did a lot more testing. He didn't make up his mind until he finished the testing and got more information for himself. I had to have two MRI's, and he actually called me himself at night when he got the results. The big neurosurgeons downtown don't do that. He told me that the disc replacement surgery wasn't necessary, based on the tests. He felt that it would have been a very unnecessary operation. I felt like he really cared. He did everything possible to get the information to make a rational decision. I would recommend going to this doctor.

    Doppenberg, Dr. Egon M
He has the most outstanding bedside manner, and he truly cares and listens. He visited me everyday that I was in hospital, which most of them apparently don't do. He is great over the phone, and is very supportive, accommodating and friendly.

    David Frim MD,PHD
Dr. Frim is just incredible. He is the head of neuro-surgery at the University of Chicago. He is a saint. The only possible downfall is that he kept me waiting for about six hours before we got in to see him. The upside of that is that he does not brush off his patients. He wants to know every detail of what is going on. He is is willing to do anything humanly possible to solve their problems. He spends all the time in the world to focus on one patient at a time. He is just incredible. The only reason that I stopped going to him is that he has a horrible nursing staff. They have unionized nursing at his facility which I think is awful. Another downfall is that they are understaffed with surgeons so if you have an emergency Dr. Frim might not always be available. However I think that Dr. Frim is an outstanding surgeon and very talented and capable.
