  • After going to my regular dentist for a cleaning in May 2014 he noticed a white patch on the side of my Provider name locked. and wanted me to have an oral surgeon look at it further. He recommended Dr Provider name locked. and they had an appointment for a consultation that afternoon on 5/28. Arriving at the office the receptionist made a copy of my Cigna card and this is where I first asked if they took my insurance and they said they did. After the consultation Dr Provider name locked. determined that he felt it needed to be cut out and sent to a lab for testing. I made an appointment for a Provider name locked. biopsy for the next Monday which was June 2,2014. I told him my profession and asked if i needed to make arrangements ahead of time to take off because I work 12 hour shifts and have to talk the entire time and only had Monday the day of surgery and the next day Tuesday off. He said I should be fine to work all day Wednesday and Thursday. Then a member of the office staff came in with a treatment plan for me to sign and said I had to pay 950.00 up front. Again I asked her if they took my Cigna insurance and she said they would bill Cigna but that they charge the patient up front. That should have been my first red flag.Looking back I wish I had taken more time to schedule this surgery but I was very worried and the doctor felt I should have it out right away.I wish I would have known that by having me pay upfront they knew I would not be getting paid anything from Cigna since they are a non-preferred provider.Over the next several months I communicated with the insurance company and first it wasn't submitted at all and then incorrectly to my dental insurance which was denied. Then when they did summit the claim to medical it was not coded correctly. Finally after I got my employer involved I finally got a statement from Cigna on 11/19/2014 stating the office is out of network and Cigna recommended that I should only pay $376.15 when I received a bill. I then called the office and spoke to the billing manager to see if we could come to an agreement for a reduced bill. She said I should have known that by paying $950.00 up front that I and the office realized they were not getting payment from Cigna. Also that the office is preferred for dental but not medical for surgery. I feel I was duped and most definitely over charged by this office and would never recommend them.

  • Dr Provider name locked. and his staff were wonderful.  They coordinated insurance and made sure I understood the financials.  The day of the procedure went very smoothly.  I have an above average fear of dental procedures and was totally at ease in his office.  The recovery went very smoothly.  My family has used him for oral surgery needs and when I've not been the patient, I was kept well-informed on progress and what the pre-post-op expectations were.  In each case, Dr Provider name locked. AND someone from his office checked on us after the procedure.

  • My son needs his Provider name locked. teeth removed.  He's had a consult with another oral surgeon but I called Dr Provider name locked. 's office for a second opinion (not so much IF my son needs his Provider name locked. teeth extracted, but how much they would charge me for it).
All they want is for me to bring him in for a consult, for which I have to pay $80. I told the lady who answered the phone that I have all the data provided by the previous oral surgeon, and I'd be glad to share it with them so they can give me an idea.  She acted indignant that I dare price-shop. I told her that the previous quote is $3k and that sounds excessive for what's being done.  She told me to hold on.  I sat on hold for 15 minutes.  Finally another lady came on the line and told me that I had to come in for an $80 consult.  I explained to her again that I simply want a cost indication, we have all the data from the previous surgeon.  She too acted like I was crazy... How dare I ask about price.
If a medical professional refuses to allow me to discuss price, that tells me that they are unethical and only trying to overcharge me. I'm the consumer!! Why is it wrong for me to try to make sure I'm not being gouged?

Update 7/15/12 - Since our original experience, Dr Provider name locked. has been a VERY gracious, ethical medical provider. His personal note of apology and availability to see us is impressive.  We have elected to use his services for our son. He has showed EXTREME professionalism with his response to our original needs. I am very impressed with his staff and feel very at ease with the upcoming procedure for my son.
