I just came from having my teeth cleaned at Dr. Shepherd's office. Everyone there is wonderful. The receptionist, Brenda, is professional and efficient. Angie, my hygienist, is absolutely fantastic. I have always felt that half of going to the dentist is how well your teeth are cleaned. Angie is not only an expert at cleaning teeth, but she is very knowledgeable about how oral health affects the entire body. Every time I visit, she educates me about gum disease; how food, drink, and medications can affect tooth and gum health, and the importance of proper maintenance for the best oral health. She provides gentle dental care. She is also vigilant. She saw an area of concern on one of my X-rays and showed it to Dr. Shepherd. Dr. Shepherd investigated the problem and told me what needs to be done and why. I need a 30 year old crown replaced before it turns into a serious, expensive problem. He explained things in a straightforward, easy to understand manner. Everyone in this office is so pleasant, and their schedule runs like clockwork. You have an 11:30 appointment, you're in the chair at 11:30. I appreciate that. I used to dislike going to the dentist, until I found Dr. Shepherd. I recommend him for any type of dental work. He has already replaced for me two 30 year old crowns that were in bad shape. He is cheerful and has a good sense of humor. He puts me at ease so that I'm not nervous about any procedures. For a scaredy-cat like me, that's an enormous benefit.

For standard cleanings, this office seems to be fine, but my wife needed some special work for her implant, and the person in the office who worked with her did a sloppy job which caused her problems.

Reasonably well. They went the extra mile to help me figure my insurance coverage. The crown, though, arrived the wrong color and required a re-order and additional visit. Would have liked them to spend as much time insuring my bite was correct after the crown was put in as they did trying to match the color of the crown.

Cleaning went well. Unfortunately it showed I needed a crown. It required an extra visit because the lab sent the wrong color and they had to re-order. They were very helpful estimating what insurance would cover.

I've used Dr. Thornton for 15 years and always been satisfied.  He gives excellent explanations of dental matters.  He is very gentle, and I am an extremely jumpy person in a dental chair!

I can't really put my finger on why I didn't like this dentist--I know he comes highly recommended by some.  My children were just never comfortable with the staff or Dr Hurst.  I didn't have much interaction with him at all.  My children never had any procedures other than routine cleanings and x-rays.  The fluoride treatments they do are the kind that is the gel in the tray that has to sit on the child's teeth for awhile.  My kids hated that, and I can remember hating it, too, when I was little. I am sure he is competent, but I just wasn't comfortable with him working on my children. Maybe it's a bedside manner issue.

Simply the best experience I could have hoped for. This is a very caring and professional practice. I would and will recommend to anyone that wants excellent care at reasonable prices. Dr. Marshall and his staff are the best.

Dr. Rohling truly cares about her patients and her practice. She is extremely intelligent and competent. She is one of the rare dentists who has the natural touch. She doesn't hurt you at all during procedures. She takes her time and is completely thorough. She will not try to trick you into believing you need extra dental work when you don't. Honesty and professionalism are her policies and she practices them. Her staff is wonderful. They are dedicated, caring, compassionate and extremely skilled at what they do. They are more like a family, which you feel from the time you enter their office. They get along and joke with one another. They put you at ease and make you comfortable. The secretaries in the front office are the best. They remember your family members and even ask about them years later. They are fabulous, lovely, extremely courteous and efficient ladies who you will delight in getting to know. All around, they are top notch. Dr. Rohling's compassionate excellence is reflected in her staff, who are as wonderful as she is. I highly recommend finding them at their location by the interstate in Trussville. They are reasonable and more than anything they truly care about you as a patient and as a person. That's so rare in today's world. Cherish it when you find it, they say. It is true in this case. I would like to give them five stars.

We used Angela Rohner as our children's dentist for several years from about 2012-2014.  Her office staff are sweet and cheerful almost too sweet.  Several of the cavities she filled for us came out, which meant we had to come back in to get them replaced, which she did free of charge.  However, this was an extra trip to the dentist for us.   Also, sometimes she left too large of a gap between teeth when she filled them, which meant that food constantly got trapped in there and it was uncomfortable for the kids and was more work to brush and floss that area.  The primary reason that we left is that she uses nitrous gas for every procedure except for the check-up. This is not covered by insurance.  We had assumed that when our kids were older or if the procedure was non-invasive she would stop.  The office makes you think that it is optional, but if you decline it they won't treat your child.  They even insisted on using it for sealants which is just applying a protective coating to the surface of the teeth.  We have since moved to another pediatric dentist in town who doesn't use the gas and my kids do just fine without it.   Also, it was pretty frustrating how often they didn't file the insurance claims properly and then sent out bills that were not very nicely worded wanting their money right away.  This always took multiple calls to their office to get it straightened out and get them to file the insurance claims properly.  It seems like it was always some sort of error on their part.  At our new dentist, we haven't had any issues with insurance claim filings.  I gave it a C because of the over use and pressure to use the gas, and the insurance claim issues.  We also had a few other instances when follow-up calls or a more open line of communication would have been helpful in the after care of the procedures we had done.

The worst dental visit of my life. After the exam, I was highly pressured by the staff and Dr. Pruitt to proceed with getting a new crown. They were rushing me and printed off the estimate for the procedure after insurance. I said no thank you (I wanted a second opinion) and I proceeded to walk out the door.
The staff and Dr. Pruitt would not let me leave. They blocked my way to the door that leads to the lobby. I proceeded to tell them no thank you, and they kept pushing me, trying to lead me back to a procedure room. Finally (out of frustration so they'd leave me alone) I told them I did not have the funds to pay for the procedure today and would come back another day. They then offered to call my family contacts listed on my forms to call and pay for the procedure over the phone! I was livid.
Again, this was not life or death...they simply wanted to replace my crown, and I had mild pain.
Dr. Pruitt was extremely inappropriate, saying things that I do not even want to post on this review. He made me extremely uncomfortable. He is also extremely vain. I have warned family and friends about this place. It was a nightmare.
