Glass Block Installation reviews in Albany

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • Dan and his son arrived on time and went right to work. Because its an old building in an old neighborhood, accessing the work area was a bit difficult. (Block windows are very heavy!) But neither complained and completed the work efficiently and picked up after they finished.
Both were great to work with and the windows have made a huge difference in the quality of the basement. Now it actually retains heat and gets plenty of sunlight.

  • Mr. Kepple was contracted in March 2014 to replace three windows with glass blocks, two small basement windows and one full size first floor window. For weather and other reasons, the job was justifiably delayed until May 2014. Given the age of the building and the limited outdoor space in which to work, some difficulties were reasonably anticipated, but all of that was known at the time the contract was written and signed.

He and a helper (son, perhaps) arrived punctually to do the first part of the job in the basement and did a great job. When they were done, Mr. Kepple went over the work that had been done and explained what would be done when they returned, primarily some cementing to smooth out a gap between the bottom of the blocks and the interior brick which was set about an inch higher, and to then begin the first floor. I was impressed in that he made a point of showing me something I wouldn't have noticed myself, a very minor blemish on one block that looked like something worse and would be fully attended to on the return trip.

When he returned, he informed me that he was going to renege on the contract and not do the first floor window. He rewrote the contract and gave me a break on the cost for the inconvenience. He then completed the work in the basement, but didn't do that either. The cementing on one of the windows was done beautifully, but the second was choppy and a big section wasn't filled in at all, such that the surface is even less useable than it would have been had he not cemented at all. And he didn't attend to the blemish that he had made a point of showing me.

Based on other reviews and his years of doing this job, I find it hard to believe Mr. Kepple hasn't worked with older brick buildings, such that mine would present so much of a challenge that he had to renege on the contract. I had first learned of him through one of the Home Shows at the Empire State Plaza and Times Union Center, but when we spoke at my home, I mentioned the straight A's he had from other Angie's List reviewers. I regret that the sloppy job he did in my basement, and his decision to renege on the contract, must inevitably force me to break that string of perfect scores.

  • The two Mr. Kepplers, father and son, arrived around 12;30 pm and the windows were in by 4:30 pm. They look GREAT and are much more energy efficient than the old windows. I am very pleased with the service, product, and price.

  • They always advertise in the magazines. They did a great job for us. It was about $1000. They did an excellent job. They did a better job than we had expected. We had expected a competent job, but they did a very good job. The other really nice thing that they did was that they cleaned up completely. They took everything out like all the old stuff, but they didn’t leave any residue at all. We were really impressed because of that. They also did the whole thing in a day, which was perfect. They have a real system set up to do it. It was very well done. The windows have held up very well over time. They worked well.

  • 1ST CHOICE GLASS BLOCK IS AN OUTSTANDING COMPANY. MATT WAS VERY RESPONSIVE TO MY ORIGINAL PHONE CALL AND CAME OUT FOR AN ESTIMATE THE SAME DAY. THE TIME BETWEEN MY ORIGINAL PHONE CALL AND COMPLETION OF THE WORK WAS 5 DAYS, WHICH I FOUND VERY IMPRESSIVE. HIS CREW WAS EXTREMELY POLITE AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. THEY DID A GREAT JOB CLEANING UP (THEY EVEN ASKED TO USE MY VACUUM CLEANER!). I RECOMMEND THEIR WORK HIGHLY.
