Did you lose $1 million dollars on Super Bowl Sunday? A Bethesda apartment complex did due to a blocked dryer filter that caught fire and damaged many units.
Several fires have been caused by clothes dryers in the Washington, D.C., area this winter, prompting officials to remind residents of the potential dangers.
“Clean the lint screen filter before and after each time you use a load of clothes; clean the dryer vent and exhaust system periodically,” Pete Piringer, with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, tells WTOP.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates more than 15,000 fires are started each year from clothes dryers.
