Wheeling appliance repair service accused of improper billing

Wheeling appliance repair service accused of improper billing

COMPLAINT: Cathy Baillet, Glenview, Ill.

"I've used Sears Service & Repair [in Wheeling] in the past and haven't had a problem.

"I smelled gas when my dryer was operating and called them since it was a Kenmore dryer. They sent out a repairman, saying it'd cost $75 to come out. I said OK.

"The repairman said the problem was that I had painted in the basement. He refused to open the dryer and look at its gas valve or see if it needed to be cleaned out.

"He refused to address my concerns, saying he'd been on the job four years and knew what he was talking about.

"I said I didn't feel this was a service call since he refused to do the simple things I asked for. Then he presented me with a bill for $126. That's $51 more than the $75 standard repair call. And he did nothing.

"I have no idea where the extra $51 came from — there were no parts involved and he didn't spend more than five minutes in my home."

DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I want this bill canceled."

STATUS: Penalty Box
