Subject: pickup speed

I have a Ford F-150 2002 4X4 that I keep my Jayco camper on. A week ago the truck lost its pickup speed in forward gears, It take twice as much time now to get up to speed, and makes it difficult to enter busy traffic at higher speed. It won't climb hills well at all. I barely got up the hill of my driveway to get it parked. What do you think is the cause of lost power. Thanks for your help.

Subject: 2000 eclipse

Subject: Shifts

I have a BMW stick shift and it drives fine for a day or half then it leaks some sort of clear liquid and it won't let me shit I to gears

Andrew

Subject: I know your problem

That clear liquid is brake fluid (which is what is used to disengage your by pushing your slave cylinder into your push fork) so what is happening is all your brake fluid is leaking out and is not allowing your master and slave cylinders to disengage your clutch. My advise would be to find the leak and fix it than put some more brake fluid in your car and you should be good to go :)

My son has a 96 dodge ram pick up, his transmission which is 5 speed manuel transmission . it started making a noise and then lost all the gears except 4th. It feels as it goes into gear but wont pull .

Subject: Shifting issues

I recently bought a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with a manual transmission. When I test drove it I had no issues shifting. When I first get in and drive it for the day there are no issues, but the longer I drive it the harder it is to shift into gear. I dont think that is the clutch because it shifts fine until I drive it longer. It is a hydraulic master/slave cylinder so I can't bleed it.

james

Subject: bleeding

You can bleed it just like brake lines wear long rubber gloves so thaf you dont get hydraulic fluid on your skin because it can chemically burn you......make sure revs are high enough to shift and change the transmission fluid, if you do all of that ypu are almost certain to fix the problem.

Subject: 2000 eclipse

I have a 2000 eclipse and the clutch was going out so I changed it. before I changed it I couldn't get first gear to go in at all but not that it's all put back together 1st gear works but 4th won't go into gear could anyone possibly tell me whats wrong and how to fix it

Lisa

Subject: stick seems to be "floating"

While attempting to go into gear stick shift just seemed to "float" not connected to anything..gears nothing. Could it be a simple break or a disengagement of the device all together. Oh its a 2000 Saturn SC1

Hunter

Subject: Clutch and/or tranny

Hey I just recently bought a 99 Saturn SL2 and it needed a shift cable so we put that in but when you push down on the clutch pedal and put the car into gear it won't move at all it's almost as the car it self isn't engaging at all and it won't move so what do you guys think it is.

Mark

Subject: A manual clutch is much like

A manual clutch is much like a disk break that operates reverse with respect to the peddle. When you let go of the clutch it has small but powerful springs (usually 4 or 6 of them) that push a steel pressure plate together with the clutch plate. The clutch plate is much like a break pad, and just like a break pad wears down, so does the clutch plate. When the break pads are gone, you don't stop. When the clutch plate is gone, you don't go. See, I said they operated reverse. The big difference is the clutch is 100 times harder to get to. I hope this helps.

Subject: Your car

All manuals behave a little differently. My friends Saturn does the same, it wants different shift patterns. Try shifting from a higher rpm, or a faster speed. If it still doesn't behave like it should have it checked out, it might possibly be the clutch is a little bit burnt and slips, grabs, slips, grabs, that sort of thing.

criag thomson

Subject: last sentence is wrong

When at a red light you should have the clutch fully depressed. It's when you are underway that you should make sure your foot is completely off the pedal. I'm sure that is what Davis meant.

Mitch N.

Subject: Keeping Your Foot OFF the Clutch at Red Lights

No, no, no. That last statement was quite correct. You shouldn't have the clutch pedal depressed at all while waiting at a red light, or any time that the car is stopped; doing so would cause unnecessary wear of the throw-out bearing.
The proper way to do this would be to disengage the transmission before coming to a stop. This will have the added benefit of ensuring that the gear teeth have a good layer of oil on them when it's time to get moving again. Leaving the clutch pedal depressed while stationary stops the gears from rotating and the oil will drip down off the gear teeth. Even though the extra wear would be miniscule, it'll add up over the life of the transmission.

Subject: huge help needed.

It all happened so fast I'm really worried about the cause and cost.my car is a 2003 mitsubishi spyder. I take very good care of it and usually just drive it to work and back. I'm 31 now and have always owner a standard car. I got to work like any other day and everything was fine. After my shift when I got into the care I noticed the clutch had about an 1 inch give ( meaning it had no resistance, I could move it with 1 finger.)... I was thinking of going to a shop the neXT day not knowing the urgency. The next day I took it to work and the give was greater. By the time my next shift ended. 24 hrs the clutch had like 3 inches give. It wouldn't have any pressure until it was very close to the bottom.what could it possibly be?I know it's not leaking because there are no stains on my drive way. I hardly made it home. Now I'm afraid to take it to a shop because I feel like any minute it won't grab. What could possibly act so quickly. The car is running completely fine. Idle is fine. It's not maKing any noises. Anyways any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Subject: small annoying noise on 1,2,3 gear

Hi I need your insight regarding an 06 Honda Civic. It shifts well however when the 1st gear is engaged, a noise is audible like a fast paced (tactactac); may be metal to metal contact. when shifting to 2nd, it is less audible and less again in 3rd gear. On the 4th and 5th, no noise. I am sure it is related to the transmission because when I put the lever on neutral, the noise described previously disappears and will start over if engaged in 1,2 or 3rd gear.
I am sure something is on its way out but have no idea what.

Thanks for assisting

sir,i have 1996 toyota tacoma 5 speed transmission truck.the problem is my 1,3,5,gears are not go in when i push the clutch in but my 2,4,and reverse gear are working good so i dont understand what could be the fault ,clutch or transmission so please figourout and let me know . thank you

JM

Subject: 1,3,5,gears

sounds like your shifter adjustment is too far back. likely transmission is ok, just adjust the shifter/linkage forward.

Subject: my trans was hesitant to go

I second the original question (still unanswered). Speaking as someone who logged in today to try to find an attorney, I see this category as one that's exactly what I have my Angie's List membership for:

1. It's important that I find a good one
2. I'm not an expert enough to know myself who is a good one
3. The industry is full of advertisements and misinformation
4. I wish I knew what experiences other people have had

I don't care about lawns--I planted mine in clover and don't have to mow it. When I do need to mow I use a rotary Fiskars mower, which is great--or a scythe. That's right--a scythe (the European type, which is smaller, and it's very good exercise). Gas-powered mowers, chemical fertilizers and weed killers--all nasty stuff that gets into everyone's air, soil, and water. I'm sure my neighbor doesn't like my wildflowers, semi-wild pockets of fruit bushes, and unmown areas and yes, dandelions (I have 10 acres) but that's too bad. It's better habitat for wildlife, especially the pollinators on which our food supply depends. I think this obsession with the Great American Lawn is a waste of time and resources. Plant some food instead.

I'm not sure Angie et. al. want you to have a complete answer to this question. By re-subscribing at the Indiana State Fair in 2012, I think I paid $20.00 per year for a multi- year subscription. Maybe even less. At the other extreme--and I hope my memory isn't faulty about this--I think the price, for my area, for ONE year was an outrageous $70.00. And they debited me automatically without warning. I had to opt out of that automatic charge. I like Angie's List, but if some of the companies they monitor behaved the way they do in this respect, they'd be on some sort of Pages of Unhappiness. I'll be interested to see if this comment gets published or censored out of existence.

That's very difficult to answer without seeing the house. As one poster said, the prep is the most important part. On newer homes that don't have a lot of peeling paint, the prep can be very minimal even as low as a couple or a few hundred dollars for the prep labor.

On a 100 year old home with 12 coats of peeling paint on it, then the prep costs can be very high and can easily exceed 50% of the job's labor cost.

A 2100 sq ft two story home could easily cost $1000 just for the labor to prep for the paint job. That number could climb too. Throw in lots of caullking  or window glazing, and you could be talking a couple or a few hundred dollars more for labor.

Painting that home with one coat of paint and a different color on the trim could run roughly $1000 or more just for labor. Add a second coat  and that could cost close to another $1000 for labor.

For paint, you may need 20 gallons of paint. You can pay from $30-$70 for a gallon of good quality exterior paint. The manufacturer of the paint should be specified in any painting contract. Otherwise, the contractor could bid at a Sherwin-Williams $60 per gallon paint and then paint the house with $35 Valspar and pocket the difference. $25 dollars per gallon times 20 gallons? That's a pretty penny too.

That was the long answer to your question. The short answer is $2000 to $4000 and up, depending upon the amount of prep, the number of coats, the amount of trim, and the paint used.
