What are Charlotte’s hot Halloween costumes?
Phil and Amy Morris began selling costumes for Halloween and other occasions out of their Charlotte garage about a half-century ago. All these years later, there are some constants about the spooky holiday we love: Boys like to dress up like super heroes, and girls like trendier costumes.
So what are those trends this Halloween? Like many years, they come from the big screen.
“The most popular costumes this year for girls are from ‘Frozen,’ and for boys ‘Ninja Turtles,’ says Dee Abdullah, a longtime employee of the highly rated Morris Costumes, now with retail locations in southeast Charlotte, Pineville, the University area and Mooresville.
Abdullah says that this year, as always, girls are looking for costumes from popular teen shows, including “Monster High.” For boys, it’s the ever popular “Transformers” series, as well as “Game of Thrones” and “Sharks.”
What happened to spooky?
“Kids tend to be more fun than scary,” Abdullah says. “Teens would like to be more sexy if they can get away with it.” If not, there are plenty of vampires, werewolves and zombies out there to join.
Even if the kids aren’t scary, your house can be. Morris offers blow-up Halloween decorations, as well as props that can spook up your property for the trick-or-treaters. Morris also offers costumes for adults and has worked with customers to create fun, inventive original costumes, many of which have won Halloween contests.
The most memorable costume for Abdullah, however, was one that didn’t take much work.
“Our favorite is when a nudist came in looking for a Santa’s beard for his costume,” she says. Want more tips on renting a Halloween costume? Angie’s List experts have five questions you should ask.
