West Roxbury homeowner peeved with peeling paint
COMPLAINT: Chris Di Maggio, West Roxbury
"I hired Hamel Painters Inc. to do a complete interior painting of my 1,700-square-foot home. After my final inspection and three days of correcting foolish mistakes — such as forgetting to paint parts of walls and painting over cracks in ceiling plaster — I discovered they didn't bother to prep any of my woodwork and put latex paint over old oil paint. Needless to say, it's all peeling. [Nate Hamel, the owner,] offered to repaint the woodwork, but he said it would take 10 months!"
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'll accept his repairs to the bad quality work. However, I was also charged for work that was simply not done. I'll accept a $5,000 refund."
RESPONSE: Nate Hamel, president, Hamel Painters Inc.
"When we left, we had completed the work by the specified deadline with no complaints from the member. There was a significant amount of prep work on this project. We stripped wallpaper and repaired the calcimine ceilings. I never gave him a time frame to address his complaint.
"He arbitrarily chose 10 months to support his case. I'd be happy to honor the warranty. If he finds this unacceptable, I'd be willing to offer him $3,500 in exchange for the warranty."
Di Maggio accepted Hamel's counteroffer.
