Washington, D.C., fence company disputes homeowner's complaint
COMPLAINT: Jeff Politzer, Springfield, Va.
"I hired Carter Brothers Fence to install a new fence in my backyard. I noticed loose pickets covered gaps between the sections, creating a 3-D effect. They told me it had to be that way because of the slope of the yard.
"If the previous fence didn't have gaps, why would the new one? The owner requested I leave the final payment taped to the front door and assured me he'd resolve the issue. Well, he picked up the check and did nothing else."
Hasn't responded to Ashley Klick's request to finish the addition to her house and address problems she says they caused. First month in the box.
Opus Sash & Door
Failed to respond to Lisa Rovin's request for a refund for windows that she says were the incorrect measurements. First month in the box.
Didn't address Merril Springer's request to fix the damage caused after a stove door she says they improperly installed left a gash in her floor. First month in the box.
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like them to fix the fence as promised or I'd like a $500 refund to fix the fence myself."
RESPONSE: Mike Carter, owner, Carter Brothers Fence
"The member received a well-built fence exactly as contracted. He was complimentary when we finished. All of a sudden he went from giving compliments to inaccurate information. We don't need this kind of customer."
COMPLAINT: Ashley Klick, Alexandria, Va.
"Davinci Construction built an addition on my house, installed a stone patio and replaced the front porch decking board. Overall, I'm satisfied with Davinci's exterior work. The interior work was less than satisfactory.
Davinci decided not to finish the project because I wanted things done 'too nicely.' The estimated amounts to complete the work and resolve the punch list is averaging $48,000."
DESIRED RESOLUTION: "I'd like them to reimburse me $35,000."
STATUS: Penalty Box
