Want LASIK surgery? Follow this advice

LASIK eye surgery is a growing trend to correct vision. But, as with any surgery, there are potential risks you need to know about. Angie tells you what you should consider before making the decision.

Had Lasik in March 2010 was great until Sept Inflamation due to ?? Had throat infection and being told may be from that. Vision not so good now. On steroid drops since Sept. Waiting until Dec 8 to see when I can have corrective treatment. Tho vision not as good as in the beginning, still much better than before surgery. Have reading glasses, dont use/need them much. Have distance glasses for driving, just until re lasered, am told. Will see

I agree with the other posters. This podcast is useless, obvious advice, with no substantive information about how to research LASIK surgery, and surgeons performing the procedure. My LASIK was successful, but only after having to repeat the surgery after 6 months. This was 10 years ago, and technology has significantly improved since then. People need to know about the different types of diagnostic and surgical technology used at various price points, and why doctors charge more for the more sophisticated equipment used. They generally have to pay per-use royalty fees to the manufacturers, and thus pass the higher cost along. With some caveats, you should not expect to get a "great deal" on LASIK, unless the surgeon is using older, less sophisticated methods, which may not produce the best results. This is especially true with astigmatism, or other non-spherical corrections. Buyer beware...it's your vision, after all, not just cosmetic surgery.

so ridiculously general..no mention what the credentials should look like...no specific check list..I know nothing more than if I was hiring a rug cleaner..Hope this woman was not paid for her reporting..if so call anytime on any subject and hire me.

I agree with Mike! I had Lasik 7 years ago,I did do my research. After $4000 and 5 1/2 years later, I started having vision trouble already and Im back to wearing glasses and contacts. It would be nice to have heard interviews from actual people who had it done or just some better info from Angies.Like Mike said..that info you could of got from a random brochure.

That was NOT helpful. It did not talk about the pre-exam or the different techniques for LASIK. I could have gotten that much info from a brochure at the doctor's office.
Do better Angie!
