Virginia Beach contractor pours concrete driveway, walkways
Janis Sweeney and her husband, Roger, recently uprooted their concrete driveway and sidewalk.
“Our old driveway was cracked due to tree roots,” the Virginia Beach Angie’s List member says. “We wanted it wider because of the vehicles we drive. The sidewalks were cracking, too, and were not very wide, so we wanted them wider to accommodate a wheelchair. While we do not need one currently, we are getting older and may need one in the future.”
Sweeney searched Angie’s List and called several companies for quotes, ultimately deciding to hire highly rated Dave’s Concrete in Virginia Beach.
“All were in the same ballpark with their estimate, but Dave [Beasley, owner] was willing to do more, and when we interviewed him, our impression was that he was an honest businessman and would do what he said he would.”
According to Sweeney, the job took only two days of work — one day to remove the old driveway and sidewalks, and another day to pour the new concrete. The work cost $5,900.
“They worked very hard to get our job done,” she says. “They all knew what their role was and seemed to need little supervision from Dave. Dave was present all the time and made sure we were happy with the design before they poured the concrete.”
Sweeney says her favorite part of the project was observing the work.
“I like to watch when workers are doing jobs around my house,” she says. “Dave and his crew did not have any problems with that and answered our questions when we had some.”
