Long-time family practice more than just dentists
Patients in the doctors’ chairs at Everly, Hockett and Everly Dental enjoy a waterfront view. But it’s not only the scenery that helps to relax patients. Members say staff friendliness, including the warm greetings they receive, puts them at ease.
Dr. Ralph Everly Jr. opened the Carmel practice in 1972, after spending two years in the Army Dental Corps — one of those years as a dental officer in Vietnam. His brother-in-law Dr. Steven Hockett and son Dr. John Everly later joined him.
The doctors attended IU School of Dentistry. “We bleed red for Hoosiers,” Ralph says.
Ralph, who also made our best dentists list, says being established in the community helps the doctors and 13 staff members form strong relationships. “I’m seeing kids of kids now,” he says. “It’s pretty neat that familes have stayed with us this long.”
Castleton member Keith Phelps can vouch for that. “We’ve been with them through at least three different locations,” Phelps says. “They’ve moved and grown. We’re more like long-time friends.”
Carmel member Phil Holleman feels he’s more than just a patient, too. “The care is very personalized,” he says. “I have particular problems with certain toothpastes ... and they give me the right kind.” However, there’s one thing Holleman doesn’t look forward to. “I’m going to dread when the doctors start retiring.”
