Pediatrician office offers family-like atmosphere
The doctors and staff at Clinical Pediatric Associates view themselves as a family who treat patients from birth to college age. “No one has left the practice other than [through] retirement or death,” says Dr. Patrick Hieber, who sees second-generation children that he calls “grandpatients.”
The practice in Woodhill Medical Park remains open seven days a week, which was a key reason member Kimberly Zimmerman of East Dallas chose Dr. Debra Burns.
“She’s thorough and easy to talk to,” Zimmerman says. “She never makes me feel silly for calling with my first-time mom issues.” Zimmerman has an infant daughter, so it’s also important to her that the practice offers separate waiting areas, which keeps their sick and well patients apart.
All six doctors at the practice hold clinical teaching positions at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and work alongside residents, teaching students and parents, Hieber says. “I’m explaining why I’m asking questions, and then they can look for things the next time the child’s sick,” he says.
Member Barbara Ibbotson of University Park takes three children to see Dr. Joseph Hanig. “He always talks to his patients, rather than just their parents, making them feel at ease,” Ibbotson says.
