Tips to maximize your health benefits
  • Discuss how the new health care law will affect your plan. If you get group insurance through your employer, talk to your human resources representative. If you have individual insurance, make an appointment with an insurance broker.
  • If you're in the market for individual health insurance, shop around. Just remember, premiums are only one part of the cost equation. Consider deductibles, co-pays, coinsurance and other out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Keep a copy of your health insurance policy handy. You don't need to memorize it. Just get in the habit of checking what's covered before medical appointments. If you're still not sure if something is covered, call your insurance provider for clarification.
  • In addition to your doctor or specialist, verify with your insurer that any labs, surgery centers or anesthesiologists are in network.
  • Check your bills closely. If you can't get a claims dispute resolved through your provider, call a patient advocate or your state insurance department.

Talking to your insurance provider is non existent. They get notices from this horrible government every day and they are having a really bad time keeping up with their changes

In most companies health benefit are administer by outside resources and by policy HR does not get involved. Second who get a hard copy of a policy are you kidding. The insurer calls all the shots and denies any nonstandard treatment. Try finding a doctor to help you battle an insurance claim. Please update to the current Millenium.
