Tampa travel agents give tips on booking vacations
Who we talked to
Malcolm Bruce Morgan, president
Morgan Travel Corp.
Why should people plan a trip through a travel agency?
Alejandra Amor: "We're always here and can always help to try to solve any problems you encounter."
Malcolm Bruce Morgan: "They should use a travel agency if they want to have a good trip and get advice."
Sylvia Reina: "Basically, we stick with you from the beginning to the end."
How do you charge?
Amor: "We have a ticketing fee for airline tickets. For packages, we mainly get our profits out of commissions."
Morgan: "The only thing we charge for is airfare, because they don't pay us commission."
Reina: "We're paid through commission by the suppliers. We don't charge for consolations."
Do you plan all aspects of customers' trips?
Morgan: "Yes, as much as they want or as much as we can."
Reina: "We're probably one of few full-service agencies."
How far in advance should people plan trips?
Amor: "It depends on where they're going and the time of the year."
Morgan: "Ideally, six months to a year."
Reina: "For the best deals, as far in advance as possible."
What's the one travel tip you always give customers?
Amor: "I always suggest they learn basic phrases when they go to a country where they don't speak the language."
Morgan: "When you go on an overnight flight to Europe, don't go to bed when you get there. You need stay up until dark."
Reina: "Call your credit-card company and let them know you're going to be out of the country."
What's one place you recommend everyone should visit and why?
Amor: "Southern Europe. It's one of the most wonderful continents."
Morgan: "I've got several that are high up there: South Africa, Malta, New Zealand."
Reina: "If I had to say one place, it would be Washington, D.C."
