Tampa-area auto repair shops win praise for solid service

Whether you live in Thonotosassa, Egypt Lake-Leto or downtown Tampa, you need a trusted local mechanic to take good care of your car.

Here’s the latest Post of Happiness for great service from Tampa-area auto repair shops as selected by the Angie’s List Newsroom staff.

Ice Cold Air Discount & Auto Repair, St. Petersburg,Fla.

Robert Torris says Ice Cold Air Discount Auto Repair saved him a bundle. “I purchased a used 1994 Ford F150 and the air conditioner went out the second day I owned the truck. My regular mechanic told me it had the “Black Death” and that it would need almost every component replaced at a cost of about $ 1,300. I took it to Paul and they checked it out and determined the hoses were leaking and replaced them. He charged me $148.05 for parts and labor. The A/C has worked great since then. Paul and his guys were great and I will be going back since they do more than A/C. He saved me almost a grand!”

Jay & Dean’s Auto Repair, Sarasota, Fla.

Daniel Shlifer says Jay’s & Dean give solid advice. “My girlfriend of seven years recommended Jay & Dean’s Auto Repair and Dean seven years. If you ask her there is no other option in Sarasota and I trust her judgement above all others. I called them before I bought my vehicle and they gave me good advice and great insight into what I was buying and what I could expect. Then they checked over the vehicle so I could have piece of mind and know I bought the right vehicle for my needs. To add to their credibility, I later bought a different car and called them first and they advised me stay away from that car. Unfortunately, I loved the car and bought it anyway. It is too soon to know everything, but I think Jay and Dean’s advice was again, right on the money. The bottom line? Jay & Dean’s is trustworthy, highly skilled and affordable.”

South Venice Auto Repair and U Haul, Venice, Fla.

Toby Thomas likes South Venice Auto Repair and U Haul’s ingenuity

“I took my car in to South Venice Auto Repair because my muffle came loose, was out of position and dragging. I had never been there before. The owner, Chad and his worker viewed my muffler and offered several scenarios to fix it without having to order and install a new muffler, which would have cost several hundred dollars. After discussing it, they told me to bring the car in the next morning. They warned me that if they couldn’t fix it “manually”, they would have to order a muffler, and I agreed.

About an hour later, they called me to tell me my car was fixed. They had repaired the muffler by re-positioning and welding the muffler. The whole repair cost $100. They were very professional, honest, and really seemed to care about saving me money. I will definitely take my car back to them for all my service needs, including oil changes and under the hood.”

Ace Auto & Marine Electric, Clearwater, Fla.

Bill Clark says Ace Auto & Marine Electric didn’t short circuit him. “I had a tricky electrical short in a vintage 1976 Volkswagon Bug that had been plaguing me for weeks. Another shop had “tinkered” with it for more weeks and more money. These professionals tracked it down, identified the issues and fixed them perfectly! They treated my car with great respect and concern when it was in their shop. Great guys, easy to do business with, expert electrical issue fixers, and very well priced!! Go see them if you want it done right the first time.”

About Posts of Happiness

At Angie’s List, we regularly hear from members who are ecstatic about outstanding service received from the companies they’ve hired. We think such great service deserves recognition, which is why we feature Posts of Happiness.

We ask our members for nominations when they rate companies with A's in every category. To qualify, a review must be at least 500 characters about a company's actual work (not just an estimate) and members need to assure us that they'd hire again.

After a nomination, our staff selects the most outstanding stories to feature. If we choose your nomination, your review will appear in our monthly magazine and even right here on our website.
