Sugar Land carpet and upholstery cleaner excels in business, leadership
Howard Patridge Started carpet and upholstery cleaning company, Clean As A Whistle, out of the back of his truck with his wedding money in 1984. His dedication and hard work have paid off, and he’s enjoyed resounding success in business and beyond, where he’s become a leader in the cleaning industry who also conducts seminars across the country and writes articles for cleaning magazines.
Partridge also trains business owners. “My hobby is training other people to do what I do,” he says. “I coach small-business owners around the country.”
Partridge had a book published — “7 Secrets of a Phenomenal L.I.F.E.” — last year, and he has another on the way. “People in the industry were doing coaching and training from a business perspective, and I felt like the whole truth wasn’t getting out there and people needed to know the systems that I use,” Partridge says. “I felt like there was a void in the industry.”
The eight-time Super Service Award-winning business, which has 40 employees, serves greater Houston, including Sugar Land, Missouri City, Stafford, Rosenberg, Bellaire, Katy and Pearland.
Partridge says he was fortunate to receive steady referrals starting out since his dad and stepmother were in interior design and his wife worked in radio sales. “That doesn’t mean it was easy,” he says. “The hard part was working 24/7.”
Clean As A Whistle has earned the Super Service Award yearly since 2005.
The company cleans carpet, upholstery, tile and grout, natural stone, rugs, drapes and hardwoods.
Partridge says his cleaning business remains successful by focusing on customer service, an aspect he learned a lot about while working as a server in fine-dining restaurants. “We have a lot of customer service and leadership training,” he says. “We meet with our team every morning.”
Downtown Houston member Gay Lydecker, who’s used Clean As A Whistle for 15 years, says she considers them a trustworthy company that always leaves a spot open for her on the schedule. “I have two new Cavalier King Charles puppies approaching their second birthday that are still accident prone,” she says. “They have saved my carpet during this growing period.”
West Houston member Byron Beasley, also a repeat customer, had the company out in March. “They were more than diligent with the traffic areas,” he says. “They moved all the furniture as required to clean the whole area and even vacuumed the backs of the dressers and bookcases.”
Partridge says his company likes to give back to the community, and that they raised money for non-profit Living Water International at a recent conference. “When someone we know makes us aware of a situation [where help is needed], we want to help them accomplish their mission.”
The Super Service Award recognizes contractors and health care providers that have maintained a stellar service rating on Angie’s List throughout the past year. Be sure to always check the List before hiring, however, as ratings can and do change.
