Special considerations for Boston carpets

Making sure your Boston carpet cleaner has the right credentials is not like hiring a contractor. Carpet cleaners are not licensed for their trade. Adam Dohanian, plant manager at highly rated Bon Ton Rug in Watertown, Mass., says homeowners should instead look for companies that are certified by trade associations.

Dohanian says homeowners thinking about hiring a carpet cleaner should also be aware of special considerations for the Northeast.

"Regionally, the type of soiling can change a little bit." he says. "In the winters, you track in sand and salt off your shoes more often than in other areas."

Dohanian says heating systems in Boston are likely to leave carpets with an oily residue as well.
