Shower, bathtub work is shoddy, Asheville client says
COMPLAINT: Kathy Gross, Waynesville, N.C.
I hired [Don Puckett, owner] of Eagle Improvements to do some renovations on my home. The main problem was my master bathroom shower. With respect to the shower, he evidently hired people who had no idea how to do the work. The glass block wall for the shower wasn't straight. The doorway to the shower wasn't wide enough to install the glass door.
The cultured marble walls weren't properly glued or sealed to the walls and would have come loose. Both the walls and the floor joints weren't cut properly. The threshold into the shower was installed backward and lopsided, and it protruded into the shower. The shower drain wasn't connected under the house, one of the shower heads wasn't connected properly and the shower seat wasn't properly attached to the wall.
There were other items, including the fact that I repeatedly asked him to make sure the shower floor and adjoining whirlpool tub were well-covered and protected. I have photos to prove their equipment was sitting directly on the shower floor, which was damaged. The tub also was badly scratched and stained because they put equipment, grout and mortar in it, then walked in it with their boots!
Most of what Mr. Puckett did was incorrect. None of the TV wiring the electrician placed works because Mr. Puckett wired for cable — not satellite — even though I told him to, and the satellite dish was mounted right outside the house!
After a year of trying to collect the money I spent redoing the whole mess, I'm frustrated beyond imagination. I had my attorneys ask Mr. Puckett to reimburse me only for the money I had to spend on the shower and associated expenses, not to repair all of the other mistakes he and his subcontractors made that cost me approximately $15,000.
DESIRED RESOLUTION: I want reimbursement for the $16,000 I spent on repairs and an apology.
